Well, like the saying goes: "you get what you paid for". They were a few thousand dollars under my other bids so I thought I'd take a chance on them. This is what happened: 1) the roof looks great from the street. But after 3 months and a lot of rain, the roof leaked! They sent two guys over to locate the area of the leaks and ripped off the tiles and re-installed about a quarter of the roof tiles. ( I hope it holds for the duration of the warranty ) In their favor, they did pay to have a dry-wall and painter guy paint over the ceiling stains from the leak. 2) the 20 ton front loader cracked a segment of my concrete driveway. ( and to their credit, they also recommended a concrete guy which they recompensed me for roughly half the cost to repair it. And 3) they loosened the roof vent of the water heater which caused it to come apart below in the garage.. the fire department found "substantial" carbon monoxide in the garage which thankfully didn't spread to the rest ofcthe house. They sent two guys to fix the flue but they were unsuccessful and I had to call a plumber, who had no problem doing it himself! While there was no charge from him, ( neither I or Sonshine could have known this ) they absolutely refused to pay all or even part of this work, claiming their contract plainly states they're not responsible for "internal damage". In as much as the disconnected flue could have been fatal! I would not recommend this company to ANYBODY! In my book, three strikes and you're out! read more

I was not suggesting that the hurricane caused the delay; merely elongated it. I take full responsibility for missing the due date by 3 or 4 months. What I did say was I tried to call back while still in that fiscal year to get an inspection done POST-Ian, and despite leaving countless messages, I was ignored until I finally got someone. Still, it seems coincidental that reminders ceased after a certain number of years. The first five years or so, your office would call and remind me, tapering off a bit. It is almost as if you want people to forget, but why would that be? I wonder. I offered to make it right, to pay for 2 services to get back on track, but no one was having it. It is much easier, after all, not to have to worry about another customer's warranty, I suppose. read more

We had a 1972 roof and it was badly in need of replacing. We received 3 quotes, and SonShine was not the cheapest but when you compared the materials, you could tell why. They use top quality roof tiles and underlays. They are incredibly knowledgeable, and trustworthy. Don't get me wrong, Sonshine Roofing installed a quality roof. The problem is their strict insistence on adherence to the requirements of their "Exclusive 17.5 Year Workmanship Warranty". They require annual roof inspections, at $99.95 each, to maintain the warranty, and are inflexible in adjusting the date of the first inspection. It must be exactly within a year of the roof installation. For a snow bird like me, I could not get down to Florida in time to open the house (inspection requires inside and outside access) within the 365 day limit. I informed Sonshine of the problem and asked for a one-time extension to begin the inspection cycle -- and was refused. They claimed that they never received the email I sent them to that effect, and admitted that even if they had received it they would not have granted an extension as requested. I even did have them conduct a paid inspection upon my return to Florida - and they found the roof in excellent condition. That meant there would be no risk to Sonshine to adjust the annual cycle date, since they were still starting with a "virgin roof", but they maintained their insistence on a strict reading of the contract requirements. They claimed it would be "inconvenient" for them to make exceptions. I find this inflexibility, at no additional financial risk to Sonshine, incompatible with their basic value proposition of "No Risk" and their partially basing their often higher prices on their "Exclusive 17.5 Year Workmanship Warranty". It is also inconsistent with basic customer-friendly behavior. If you want a good job done, they can do it. But if you think you are paying for an "Exclusive 17.5 Year Workmanship Warranty", be wary. read more

We have used Sonshine roofing for several years, both on our own home (tile) and with rental properties (shingle). Prior to this year, we were very happy with them. This year, we had a leak develop in the corner of our laundry room. Sonshine came out and fixed it, at a cost of $4800. We repainted the ceiling, and about 2 months later, saw leakage again, in the same place on the ceiling. We called them out again, and a different serviceman came. He said there was a second leak, about 2 feet away from the first one, and from the staining on the wood, he could tell it was an old leak, not a brand new one. He told us they should have noticed it before. Sonshine wanted to charge us another $700 to fix this second leak. Since they removed all of the tile in an area at least 10 feet across, which encompassed the area of both leaks, we did not understand how there could be continued leaking from a place 2 feet away, if the work had been done properly. We felt the repair should have been covered under the warranty of their work. We wrote a letter and even met with the owner to complain about being charged again for something that should have been addressed when that section of the roof was repaired. He refused to repair it without us paying again. He recommended we replace our roof, at a cost of $80,000. Since then, we have gotten estimates from other roofing contractors that are about $20,000 less. read more

Horrible experience. I have never encountered such an unprofessional company. The foreman on the job gave us one cost for the additional wood that he and his crew were installing on the roof and the invoice came back 4 x the estimate. This resulted in an extra $4000.00. As a homeowner, we knew that wood needed replacing, however we also were trying to keep an eye on the expenses. Therefore we inquired to the cost and trusted the foreman on the job, as he was in charge of the job, he was the one putting on the new wood and he was representative of the company. The owners response was his foreman should have never given us the estimate. However our reply was that he shouldn't have been the foreman and that if you give one price, changing it fourfold is unacceptable. It didn't matter, the greedy owner, was going to place a lien on the house if we pursued it any further. Next problem, during the hurricane we lost one shingle on a brand new roof of less than 30 days old and over $16,000.00. The company refused to reattach the one shingle without us paying $130.00. Yet our neighborhood received minimal damage from the storm and other houses in the development have roofs over 20 years old and never lost one shingle. The one shingle was never attached correctly in the first place and any type of wind would have knocked this one shingle off the roof. This was a workmanship issue and should have been replaced at zero cost. The owner is a cranky greedy man and needs to retire. I have never seen such pathetic customer service. We paid a premium price for what we thought was a reputable company and got ripped off. Lesson learned and I will never recommend this company. In fact being the president of our homeowners association, all residents will be forewarned. I am not expecting any recourse, however I just want this complaint on file to warn others. read more

I don't often post reviews, but SonShine Roofing did such an outstanding job in replacing our roof that I could not NOT submit a review. The story begins with the inspection of the asphalt shingle roof we had before the replacement. Although we have resided in our home for thirty-some years, SonShine Roofing was the first consultant to explain why we should have never even had a shingle roof in the first place. Their explanation was simple, educational, and completely convincing (if anyone wants an explanation of "rise over run" let me know!). Even though previous contractors had obviously neglected this very basic aspect of roofing, they never spoke disrespectfully of their predecessors (or inspectors) or cast any aspersions. A number of alternatives were presented to us; we ended up taking a high-quality product totally due to our own sense of priorities, not because of any high-pressure tactics whatsoever. Moving on to the installation process, here again I have nothing but positive statements to contribute. The team was careful in all details, such placing the dumpster between our newly installed shrubbery and our neighbor's sprinkler, to careful clean-up at the end of each day's work. Communication between Bill, the project manager, and ourselves as owners could not have been better. Now that we have the finished product we are extremely proud of the end product both in terms of functionality and aesthetics. We never knew a metal roof could look so beautiful! We literally could not be happier, and give SonShine Roofing our highest recommendation. read more
