I have been to all parts of Mexico and I can say that I have never had steaks as good as Sonora Grill Prime. Their steaks can compete with any steak house world wide. We kind of shared all our meals between us. The table ordered the Prime Ribeye and KC Strip. Excellent flavor, cooked perfectly. Melt in your mouth. We also went with the Ribeye and Bone Marrow Tacos (see picture) and the Skirt Steak Tacos. Both were fabulous, I actually liked the tacos more. I do not ever remember eating skirt steak so tender and flavorful. The service was outstanding. Overall, this was one of my best experiences ever in Mexico. read more

If you're from out of town (aka the US) and you're looking for a Mastros, BOA steakhouse or Fleming's type restaurant, this is it. With a Mexican kick to it which makes it better. You're given chips with a delicious bean dip AND 6 types of salsa on the house to start. Servers are well mannered, tons of managerial supervisor staff overlooking the servers and busboys, valet is $40 pesos which is $2 US dollars. The service, food and drinks were on point. We had the tomahawk and ribeye - both were cooked to perfection. We also ordered several sides but my absolute favorite was the potato cake - looked liked a slice of cake made with thin sliced layers of potato and drizzled with a cheese sauce. The mixologist was rocking it and the desert...that's where I knew I was a total glutton. Why? Because the desert was SO darn good - banana cake and corn/elote cake garnished with caramel drizzled popcorn. Yum! Restaurant has gone downhill in the past several months unfortunately. I have eaten at Sonara Grill Prime three times. The first time was amazing, the second time ok, and this time just awful. Food 3.5 stars - had the cazuela of shrimp as an appetizer nothing to get exited about. Had NY Strip for the main. A good steak was undercooked and went back for a little more cooking. Creamed spinach was served cold Bar - worst mojito I have ever had. Noting but sugar. Asked them to remake it and they just poured a bit more liquor on top. Get an actual bartender. Service- very poor. Distracted waiters playing with their phones standing clustered by the open kitchen. Hard to get attention. Will not be back. So many great steakhouse choices in the area. read more

Oh my God, this place is f*cking legendary. The absolute best steakhouse I've had in Guadalajara. Not only is the food amazing, the quality of service and decor is God tier. Also, I loved the scene here. Everyone is dressed nicely, tons of good-looking people. I was in Guadalajara on business and a co-worker took me here. Let's just say it was so good that we went here twice (on Tuesday and Thursday). The moment you step foot in the restaurant, you instantly notice how clean and modern everything is. There are huge TV screens littered throughout the restaurant that show you various wonders of the world. They also play soccer games! The ambiance was very laid back yet high-end. There is an upstairs portion of the restaurant, which is even more amazing. The upstairs was closed the first night (Tuesday) we went, but on the second night (Thursday) it was open and they offered to serve us up there. AWESOME. The first night, for drinks, I had an Old Fashioned. Wonderfully made. They have a cool thing that they do here where they give you TWO drinks of whatever you order. SO AWESOME. So immediately after I finished my drink, the waiter swoops by and says, "Here you are sir" and hands me another drink. I almost jizzed my pants right then and there. We got one of the appetizers which was the fired octopus with Sriacha sauce. It was divine. When choosing the entree, they brought out a huge tray of various cuts of beef. We chose the Akaushi cut, which was apparently the best one they had. There was a separate guy for the wine, and he helped select a bottle that would pair well. AWESOME. Finally, the steak came out, and it was served on a huge slab of SALT. What?! Why can't they do that in the U.S? I've been to numerous high-end steakhouses and have never experienced this before. THIS PLACE IS LEGIT. Sides were awesome too (fries and mushrooms) Finally, they gave use a complimentary dessert. It was a churro dipped inside some sort of a sauce that I don't remember. The second night we were upstairs, and for drinks, I had the Gin & Tonic. So delicious. All the cocktails they have are great. They even had a traveling cocktail master that walked around and made the drinks in front of the table. For appetizer, we ordered the ant eggs. We were hesitant at first, but our awesome waiter highly recommended that we try it. He called it the 'caviar' of Mexico. Let's just say I was really surprised at how good it tasted. It tasted really creamy, and having it alongside with guacamole and tortilla enhanced the flavors two-fold. For the entree, again they brought out the meat tray and we selected the organic ribeye. Spot on medium rare, and served again on the salt slab. I was in heaven, and my pants were ruined. I had such a great time at this restaurant. I will come back here every time I visit Guadalajara. 1st time here in Guadaljara! I have to say this place was amazing. I had the salmon dish...which was simply delish. There was even free refills on my Spicy margarita! I'm from California so I've never heard of such a thing lol! All in all this place was hands down the best. Must try! read more

A bad experience and worst service. I took my business partners for dinner here on their last day in Guadalajara, we were also celebrating the birthday of one of them. My partners do not speak Spanish so I translated what they wanted and what the waiter explained to us. The first bad moment was when I chose a bottle of wine. The waiter tried to convince me to take a different bottle which he would have understood if the bottle was out of stock. When I insisted on the bottle I had chosen he brought the sommelier with several bottles to explain to my partners in English and try to convince them to choose a different one (more expensive). One of my partners asked for a cocktail but we were told it was out of stock and ended up taking the bartender's suggestion. We were limited on time so as soon as we finished eating we asked for our check. After 10 minutes , lll bartender gave us a second cocktail, we thought it was the courtesy cocktail because we were told by the server that all cocktails were 2 for 1. At that moment I ask for the bill again. Instead of receiving the bill, the waiter offers desserts to my partners. At this point one of my partners repeats that we had already requested our check. In total we asked for the bill five times. Finally the manager comes apologizing to my partners and ignoring me. This is when my Norwegian partner tells him that I was their boss and that he should talk to me. In the account they wanted to charge us for the second cocktail, when I asked who had ordered it, neither the waiter, the bartender or the manager knew how to answer. I already knew that no one at my table had ordered it because I was ordering for everyone. In the end they correct the bill and just like that as I took out my wallet, the bartender, waiter and manager started arguing to see who would pay for the drink. In total 65 minutes for us to be charged and a bad taste in our mouths due to the mischief and terrible service. read more

While the meat and some of the appetizers were very good (although some appetizers, like the machaca de marlin and the cocas, were awful), I could not give this restaurant more than one star given its horrible, horrible service. The waiters would come by about every 30 minutes. They brought the tacos and forgot to bring the sauces (tacos were cold by the time the sauces arrived). They brought the coffee and forgot to bring the sugar and cream (coffee was cold by the time these arrived). And what is the deal with the fetid smell in the elevator? read more
