Stoped here for a coffee and breakfast sandwich and we're not disappointed. They have a cute outdoor seating area and a small shop. I got a breakfast ham and cheese croissant which was quite tasty. I'm a dedicated carb-head. Nothing smells as delicious as when you walk past a Chinese restaurant and get that whiff of white rice steaming. As a kid all I would eat was plain pasta with butter, salt and cheese, so don't even start me on bread! I keep walking past Sonoma and perving on the amazing sourdoughs in the window. The bakery isn't on-site so there is no bakery smell, this is purely visual food porn. When I discovered that they serve baked beans I could resist no longer and decided to have some Sonoma baked beans and sourdough for breakfast, drooling at the thought... and they'd run out! Doh. They sell them til they run out at around 10 or 11am so next time I'll go earlier. Meanwhile I did munch into a toasted sandwich with eggplant & mozarrella, and verily, it was the greatest toasted sandwich I've ever eaten. I didn't even put cracked pepper on it, that's how good it was! The coffee was great, it's in the back lane of Gould St so no beach view but a beach view would just take your concentration away from your tastebuds anyway so that's probably a good thing. 100% yum. read more

Sonoma is more than your typical bakery (and café), they make their own muesli, I love muesli and their hand roasted recipes excite me. They have Honey and Spice and Spelt Maple and Almond - which I think is my favourite, it features vanilla. Their breads are also fantastic, big oversized loaves with chunky, caramelized extra crusty crusts, the Sonoma Miche, which is a dark break and their Sourdough is particularly good. And I have not even mentioned their pastries, they have one called Pain Au Chocolate and it is a lie, believe me there is absolutely no pain involved. I tried a linseed, chia, honey bread which was really nice (and sounds healthy!) there are tables and chairs to sit on or you can order takeaway and go! The staff here are very nice and seem happy to be there which I love when I go to a cafe. The coffee is always great and I like their $5 regular coffee and croissant deal in the mornings. I visited Sonoma based on the reviews here and I have to say I was not disappointed. It looks great and the lassies serving were good chat. The coffee was as good as the reviews say even from the smell of it as the waitress laid it down, needless to say it didn't last long. I was here with my girlfriend who had a toasted sandwich on the kalamata olive bread and I opted for the salmon salad. As the sandwich lasted no time and she was quiet I noted it must have been good, as for the salmon salad... It was superb, just enough to fill the gap over lunch with chunky veg and flaked salmon with a beautiful dressing. The bread was good enough to pass my French girlfriends high standards and so we left with an Ancient Grain Sourdough loaf as well to enjoy back at the apartment. read more

During my time at Bondi Beach I ate at Sonoma Bakery several times and each time got better and better. There were a lot of "best I've ever had" here including the best rustic loaf bread and best muffin ever. For standard breakfast items, the avo toast was amazing. I also tried the eggplant sandwich, which was very satisfying with a unique blend of flavors. Of course the coffee was great, but for me the food was the real standout. Out of the pastries I tried the ham & cheese was the best--somehow the danish fell flat, but compare that danish with others out in the world and Sonoma's wins hand over fist. read more

Having recently opened its doors in one of the quieter parts of Bondi Beach, Sonoma Bakery has already become a hot spot for locals. Us Bondi peeps have a way of sniffing out quality, no matter where it's located. My nose has directed me here and yet again my senses have not disappointed me Even from the outset you can see this little bakery has charisma. There are always people inside and the baked goods on display usually make people linger, contemplate going in and then finally step inside. Only to emerge minutes later with a full paper bag and a huge smile on their face. Their bread loafs are fresh and don't skimp out on any of the good stuff. You can taste the quality, and a lot of the time I love the bread so much I can't even put anything on it. Just enjoy it's rich flavors plain. The Kalamata olive bread is a must try, it's a tad salty and great when topped with ingredients that aren't too tasty and strong, as not to take away from the bread. Some tomatoes, basil and a touch of olive oil is my favorite way to eat it. You can try their in-made sandwiches for other serving suggestions. It's a fantastic place to have a yummy, healthy lunch. Their coffee and tea compliments the meals well. Whether you're looking for some take-home goodies or a nice lunch, Sanoma Bakery is a place worth noting. i'm quite an expert yelper--so i can only give sonoma bakery at bondi beach five of the ten stars. just kidding! i mean--some of you were getting all huffy weren't you? well, let me just tell you, i'd give the sonoma bakery six stars if i could. but a one point deduction for serving typically australian bacon. ok--yes, disclosure--i am from the US. we did elect trump. so by all means, we clearly are not perfect. but when it comes to bacon... let me explain it this way--if you watch a tv show or movie, and there's a prisoner on death row--and they ask "what will you be having for your last meal, bubba?" and he says "bacon. lots of bacon." i bet the good, kind people sitting in their living rooms in australia (and canada) are befuddled by bubba. "did he say BACON?" well, if you grew up with maple sizzling bacon--you'd understand. yes, it's so good that it is often used by the CIA to break vegans after a long bout of deprivation and to elicit confessions about where the soy is stashed. ok, but beyond the aussies not knowing the joys of true, cured pork belly, i mean everything this bakery serves is simply delicious. in some ways, it's everything you expect of a standard pastry/toast but exceedingly well executed. it doesn't try to be too crazy or innovative--it knows the main stream and makes sure it tastes elegantly satisfying. i've asked the super caffeinated and friendly people there what to order. they are darlings. but everything they've suggested is never quite as fantastic as just stuff i order off the menu or that looks good in the case. after 4 days of eating there: absolute favorites: eggplant, sundried tomato sandwich (pre-prepared) [and i'm not vegetarian but] the flavors were entirely satisfying and my palate was extremely pleased all around avocado toast (avo toast). as good as it gets. worth every dime of its reasonable price muffins. i am extremely picky about muffins, but these are moist but not underdone. the berry one is the one i like better than the carrot one, but i would not shun either from my table or bed any night. menage maybe? ham and cheese croissant. i think the aussies must grow seeds like weeds out here, because every time i get something seeded here, it makes the americans look like stingy seed hoarders awaiting the climate apocalypse. the seeds are generous, and when warmed/toasted up, they really blossom with flavor. please always say yes when they ask to warm it up. and eat it soon. bread loves--they sell all sorts of sourdough. the crumb--or the holes--are not too big (which we often see in artisan loaves) or too small. they're are simply perfect and surprisingly uniform. it is both light and substantial--and if you've ever made bread, you realize this loaf is the one that illustrates the magic of what flour, water, and yeast can achieve. often in the evening i find myself regretting i didn't get a loaf before they closed. *** as for the things we think are solid but we won't be going back for (because we want to focus on the above list): poached eggs on toast. just ok but especially not great on takeaway. danish and mini danish (looks great though with the big fruit on top) and did i mention as an american, nothing gives me more of a feeling of superiority than the bacon they serve at sonoma? *** it is daring to call your restaurant after a gem of a wine region in california. but in this case, it's entirely appropriate. when planning your stay in bondi, perhaps consider mapping all the airbnbs within a 600 foot radius from this bakery. you will thank me later. read more

Nice bread, terrible service. I would only recommend going to Senoma for a takeaway loaf of bread. Their service is the worst I have experienced in Sydney, both in Woollahra and Bondi Beach. I ordered some VERY simple food for takeaway; croissants, muesli, toast and toasted sandwiches (which were already made up). It took about fifteen minutes for them to prepare the toast, and they had about six people working there. When the food was prepared, I realised they did not include a spoon for their muesli and they also left out the croissants I had already paid for. This happens almost every time I go there; in fact I don't think there has ever been an occasion where I went to senoma and actually got what I ordered. read more
