Sonic Rainbow is a gem in Casper that just celebrated its 30 Anniversary. Downtown on Center Street now for 20 years it's been locally owned & operated by the same person. Sonic rainbow sells both new and used compact discs, which they have quite the selection of. They have a large collection of used cassettes to be purchased, including classic rock and rare punk gems. Then they carry both 600 new vinyl records and close to 6000 used records. They also have 500ish 45rpm 7" inch singles(new-classic). They specialize in ordering each week's new releases both on compact disc and vinyl or you can special order just about anything that you can think of. They're one of the only shops in Wyoming to participate in listening store parties. They also purchase anywhere from 300 to 500 New Vinyl Records for both the Black Friday record store day, as well as the national April record store day and have been doing so for over 10 years. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly , & when it comes to helping you get what you want, they deliver. They take cash & credit cards and sell gift cards that you can purchase for your friends and family for birthday presents, Christmas , etc.. This is the only music store left in Casper, Wyoming, and while there are a couple other small independent record stores in Wyoming, this is the only one that really actively participates in both record store day and the independent listening parties, which gives out tons of merchandise and free swag when you listen to an artists pre-release in store. Last month my bro-in-law and my father went on a trip to Yellowstone and I saw this was on the way so I had to stop and take a look. It's a nice record shop! I found a couple records I've been wanting so I snatched them up at a decent price. I wished they had a sticker but they were out. The employee was really nice too. I went in here in November of 2018. The last review hadn't been for many years, so I wasn't sure the place was even going to still be in business. I was mainly interested in looking through the vinyl for sale, as it seemed to be the only place for 200 miles in any direction that sold vinyl. I had a nice time poking through this quaint collection of mostly-antique store/garage sale/thrift store-fodder LPs from pre-1988. The newer, sealed titles (comprised of about 1/10th of the total inventory) were a good variety of genres. I could also see from his inventory that the owner had more recently begun participating in Record Store Day/Black Friday. The stickers and posters on the wall (consisting of mostly Fat Wreck/Epitaph Records slate punk bands from the late 90's) reminded of a fun little nostalgic time machine. read more

Good music store minus the hipster douchebags, although I was surprised not to see any hipster douchebags, because it is hip. Great selection of CDs for such a small space, and they also have vinyl, t-shirts, and a small collection of VHS tapes in the back. While the CDs are new and newer releases, the records are oldies - and they have some real gems. I plan on doing some Christmas shopping here, but only for those on the Super Nice List. read more

It was my second time visiting Casper, and my husband told me of a record store he had been to. I went in to check out what they have and when I went in there were a few other people in there. Soon we were the only ones. I thought there was a great selection of music. A lot of used CDs which I thought was great. Sometimes you want to pick up a cd you haven't heard in a long time, and don't necessarily want to spend $14 or so. These were just a few dollars. I could of been in there for hours going through the records but ended up picking a new CD. I am happy with my purchase and If I go back to Casper I will definitely stop in again. read more

Nice CD selection overall! The staff were very friendly! A few selections I could not find there in which I am sure they would order for you but I was from out of town so there was no point in doing so. I do wish they would have had a larger selection of techno/electronica CD's to pick from but chances are the peeps in Casper are probably not too into that or the cows! :) Overall I give this place high marks! Good vibe, eager and helpful staff! Not a huge selection of vinyl, but its respectable. I ended up buy A Kinks album and an Oakridge Boys album. They promote a lot of local shows, sell tickets for events and just give out an over-all hipster vibe! (Which I love) read more

Coolest store in casper to buy music, if not the coolest store in casper period. If you live in casper and like music, support this business! If people don't support smaller record stores that have independence then we will live in a world with nothing but the most lifeless and souless music imaginable, like Kanye West and kesha. The independent, locally owned record store is a dying breed, and the Sonic Rainbow is about as good as it gets. Great selection, and they can order you just about anything that is still in print. The staff is always helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere takes me back to better days.
