Would have been a five star had they not had what appeared to be a store detective following us wherever we went. This behavior cost them numerous sales, as we were going to buy a leather coat for my husband, and jeans and boots for myself. We did not appreciate being stalked. Otherwise the store attendants were very friendly and helpful. They have a large inventory of mostly quality items. We are from Houston, Texas, and have many western stores available to us. Look, you can take the boy off the ranch, but you can't take the ranch outta the boy. God knows, I spent enough years trying. And, eventually, I had to learn to accept that truth we all eventually reach: we can't escape the past. Thus, better to learn to embrace it. And so, hanging in my closet, alongside my Paul Frederick custom-tailored french cuffed shirts, and my Charles Tyrwitt Bond Street specials, I have shirts from Lou Taubert, possibly the best western apparel store outside of Texas. And in the bottom of my closet, next to my Bostonians and Sperry's, I have a pair of Ariats that ask me, now and then, where all the horses went. And every now and then, I wear one to the office, or out to eat. I wear the Ariats on a rainy day (whoever said leather doesn't like rain never properly treated a pair of full-grain leather boots) and walk right through the puddles. And as I look out at my fellow city dwellers, possessing the charm and sophistication they would expect me to lack, I remind myself: none of you SOBs has ever wrestled a 300-pound calf to the ground. They have nice, EXPENSIVE stuff. Also, dont bother going in to this store if you are a BBW, and if you do, beware that you might be insulted. They used to have a store in Billings MT. I went in to see what kind of closeout deals they had on boots. And I DID end up buying a nice pair that were 50% off. I saw a pair of jeans that were really cute, and asked the older female saleswoman (a wrinkled old hag with leathery skin, I might add, that I found out later was the owner, Anita Taubert.) about them and if they had any in a size larger than a 6, as I wear a size 16. She laughed at me, looked me up and down and told me in a snotty voice, "They don't make those in your size." - Classy, lady. Really classy. read more

We had a great afternoon looking through their remarkable store. Great customer service. They had lovely beaded quality headbands for $8 and up. Ariat boots for my husband for $299. Beaded Indian headed pin cushion like my grandmother used to own for around $13. Great brands. Great place to get quality souvenirs that you will actually use and enjoy. read more

I love buying western wear, and I was really excited to shop in Wyoming since I figured it can't get much more cowgirl than that. For having several floors of merchandise I was pretty disappointed in the selection. They have a great standard selection of boots, which is why 3 stars. But the clothing was pretty bad, in my opinion. Not a lot was cowgirl worthy; it seemed like maybe they cater to locals who are trying to be more fashionable but I think it really missed. Even if I found something I did like (only a few items) they either didn't have many sizes in stock and if they did the clothing was ill-fitting. I am a typical size (4-6 depending on the designer). One cotton outfit I really liked was over $300. For a cotton top and skirt. cotton. I just couldn't justify the price for what it was. It also had fringe so that would have been a nightmare to iron out after washing. I did find a lovely belt... First time in Wyoming. Beautiful scenery but the shopping in the gas station store yielded better results, in my opinion. sadly. read more

They had an awesome selection and the staff was so patient and knowledgeable in helping us both try on several pair as we decided what we both liked. Spent some time with Taubert crew today I don't know what the others were complaining about? The staff was very friendly and helpful was properly greeted at the door. Asked if I would like the lay of the land the young lady explained how the store was laid out and let me go on my way. ( I guess people have grown accustomed to being ignored by the mass merchants of today) I wandered all over the store and wasn't "tailed" by anyone. Met the owner she was very pleasant to chat with and anxious to answer any and all questions. Made some purchases and yes could have shopped the internet and received better price but one item would have been wrong size as seeing it in person I could try it on. We need to realize if people don't purchase from independent family businesses such as this the brick and mortar type of shopping will cease to exist! I was happy to purchase from them and will do so next time I'm in town. read more

Well, like the other reviewer. It isn't always about style, rather, more often should be about substance. You do not have to grow up with cow sh**t between your toes ( although I did) to know solid products with quality and durability to last in the ranch or any business for that matter. The products at Lou's are quality, the pricing is moderate to mid and the high end reflects the quality that lasts. The staff is service oriented, they seem well trained about the products to be aware of the customer tailored needs while remembering him/her even after the sale during a return visit. What you find there are the classics, current and the newest effects for western style clothing, footwear, hats and home needs surrounded by service that is nearly a lost art at the malls and nearly every where else. Lou Taubert is always worth the stop just to show "junior" or "junior-ette" How retail used to be. Visit Lou Taubert for them or yourself who might not know what the only department store downtown experience was when you "came into town". You do not have to reminisce about when retail companies once stood behind what they sold and every employee acted like they have a stake in the business because they were your neighbor, ( Albeit in WY back in the day neighbor meant 20 miles down the road). Lou Taubert has that quality with nice stuff for today. Still fun when I come into town. Quite possibly the most authentic with the best quality and biggest selection this side of Amarillo. What a great store. Went in for the first time last Saturday 11.1.14. The sales help is knowledgeable and friendly. I love the character and feel of the old general store with the exposed brick walls and hardwood floors. The variety and selection is huge. They have so much merchandise and talk about awesome cowboy boots...there were so many I wanted! I ended getting a pair of Old Friend genuine sheepskin slippers...I freaking love these slippers. They are warn and comfy!!! This store is a must visit if you live or visit Casper, WY. I will go back often. read more

the store has a great selection and the Girls upstairs really helped me with buying a gift for a friend and the staff downstairs is also very helpful but one coworker there is not very friendly at all and he seems to be a Racist Redneck towards anyone of a different skin color and the times i was in the store he stands in one spot the entire time watching every move i make while shopping in the store which i do not appreciate him doing especially cause it makes me feel threatened around him and i can't count the timesi i want to confront him in the store and ask what his problem is. i will rate this store and staff minus the one guy i mentioned 4 stars though read more
