The little white building on 4th Street still wears its vintage RC Cola sign like a badge of honor, and the moment you push open the door, that familiar sizzle of burgers hitting the oil hits you like a hug from your childhood. We slid onto the stools at the old horseshoe counter, the same one I remember from when I was a kid, and watched the magic happen right in front of us. Patties kissed with bread for that impossibly soft center, fried in the shallow oil until the edges turned perfectly crisp and golden. My cheeseburger arrived "unsquoze," glistening and glorious, layered with that signature tangy sauce, crisp pickles, and onions that somehow make everything sing. One bite and I was twelve years old again--only this time I got to share it with my own family. The new owners have kept every bit of what made Dovie's legendary. Same perfect burgers. Same simple, soulful menu. Same feeling that you're exactly where you're supposed to be. My kids devoured theirs with the same wide-eyed joy I used to have, and we left with full hearts and fingers still a little greasy in the best possible way. Dovie's isn't just a burger joint. It's a living piece of Tompkinsville history that still tastes like home. If you've never been, go. If you grew up on these burgers, go back. It's every bit as wonderful as you remember.

The Eatin' Table in Tompkinsville, KY is a warm, no-frills hometown restaurant that does comfort…read morefood very well -- think generous breakfasts, classic burgers, smoked BBQ specials, and a menu that reads like a love letter to Southern diner favorites. The dining room feels clean and welcoming, the service is friendly and down-to-earth, and portions are hearty enough that the regulars (and visiting challengers) keep returning. Standout strengths are the breakfast offerings and the house-sized portions: the restaurant is locally famous for its oversized "Mike's Big Breakfast" challenge and consistently large, satisfying plates that make it an ideal stop for a hungry traveler or a family meal. There's a lot to like if you enjoy generous pancakes, thick-cut toast, crispy hashbrowns, or smoked chicken and brisket options. Service tends to be warm and personal, and staff are attentive and helpful. However, a few patrons report occasional order misses during busy shifts, so a polite reminder about any special sides can be beneficial. The restaurant also appears active on local social channels and delivery platforms, which makes takeout an easy fallback. In short, choose The Eatin' Table when you want honest, filling Southern comfort food served with small-town hospitality. It's a supportive, friendly spot that shines at breakfast and offers reliable, flavorful plates for lunch or dinner. It's perfect for visitors exploring Monroe County who want hearty portions and a welcoming vibe.

The waitress came to the table and asked if we needed a menu, she brought silverware and asked us what we wanted to drink. It appeared there was one waitress and one cook. We brought our drinks and asked what we wanted to eat and I said I wanted to pancakes with bacon and the I said are you sure are pancakes are really large as she motioned to about the size of a plate. I said yes I want two of them and I could have done without the eye roll at not taking her suggestion. The hubby ordered biscuits and gravy, eggs, hash browns, and sausage. Bottom line is that I like mustard on my cheeseburgers so I ordered a cheeseburger with no ketchup and extra mustard (I tried not specifying that and got very little mustard the last time). What I got was the result of a pissed off line worker who went the extra mile and bathed my burger in mustard. I turned around and went back to the restaurant to make my feelings known. When asked if this was 'extra mustard' the reply was 'yes'. When I asked if this was acceptable the answer was 'no'. Now I am pissed! Either this was an employee problem OR I am making something of nothing! She went around in circles with this logic for a good 5 min until she got frustrated and got a manager who immediately understood that this was beyond what is normal, validated what I was saying, and had someone else remake my burger correctly.
