The real deal!
Julie W.

Sonic is a drive in with outdoor table service & drive in. Our plant city location is awesome! The food is always great! Glad it's survived this crazy economy! My fave are the mozzarella cheesestix! Chili dogs are really good and oh yeah the cheese tots! Yes plz! The servers sometimes skate just like the old days! Great service and clean! Fun atmosphere!

I came too early for our escape room and it doesn't open till 2pm on Sunday. Thankfully, I found a…read moreplace that sells milkshakes a couple doors down. I went inside and saw the various ice creams they had. Looks to be Mexican ice cream as I also saw some Mexican (or Latino) snacks available too. They had an American and Mexican version of vanilla, and I asked about the difference. The attendant mentioned Mexican vanilla was sweeter, and offered me a sample. I immediately ordered the Mexican vanilla milkshake after tasting it. It was so sweet and had a festive flavor. They made the milkshake and it took some time as they made it frothy, added the chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and even a strawberry. It was an excellent shake that was easy to drink with the thick straw provided. The sweetness of the vanilla, the hint of chocolate from the syrup, and the light strawberry flavor at the end made it so enjoyable. It wasn't cheap as it was about 8.50 after tax for a small portion, but I think it was well worth it. The dining area is spacious with ample amount of seats to enjoy the snacks and shakes. There is also the one arm bandit for kids to gamb... Er... Play to maybe win a prize. The staff was focused on the preparations of the shakes and ice cream, but are very friendly and helpful. Honestly, I am so happy I came in early before the opening time of the escape room so I could enjoy a shake before playing. Maybe the sugar helped because I actually were able to help in the rooms today. Definitely coming back to enjoy another shake whenever I visit Plant City. Overall: A

I saw a post on Facebook that said they actually have lunch so we wanted to check it out to support local! They are located in the same plaza as Beefs. There are small tables outside, bar seating and about 7 tables inside. You walk up to the counter to order. They have several options on their menu so I tried the sandwich tea trio. It came with 3 half sandwiches(-I thought they were each supposed to be different but I got 2 pimento cheese and 1 egg salad- I may have read the menu wrong on that though), a small cup of soup and a small strawberry salad. The bread on the sandwiches tasted old like it has been sitting in the fridge a while. Egg salad wasn't seasoned at all. I tried the Spanish bean soup and it was delicious. The strawberry salad was ok but tasted like the lettuce had not been washed. My daughter ordered a cup of the same soup I ordered. My husband and my son ordered a pizza. Here was where it went downhill: My plate was brought out before anything. And then we waited. I don't eat until everyone has their food because I have manners. We were asked what we were waiting on and then was told ok the pizza takes a little longer. Understood. Why was my plate brought out then? Once the pizza came out, my daughters soup- the same as the soup I ordered and had in front of me for 15 min- still had not come out. So I had to go stand at the counter and ask for it. To be told it would be ready in a couple of minutes. We wanted to like this place and want to support our local businesses but this was just not a win for us. If you don't mind eating in front of everyone who hasn't gotten their food you might be ok with it. I would suggest they use table numbers like Crispers does and bring everyone's food at the same time.

La Michoacána located at 1818…read moreJames L Redman Pkwy is the newest, most unique sweet treat shop in the area and I couldn't be more excited to welcome them to my neck of the woods!!! Among many treats, Fern- the very pleasant manager, made me a strawberry agua fresca garnished with a heaping spoon full of fresh local strawberries!!! La Michoacána Traditicion Natural in Plant City is celebrating their grand opening this Saturday 3/6/21 and have several fun giveaways including free agua fresca to their first 100 customers!!! Perfect timing as Plant City starts celebrating all things strawberry this week for the Florida Strawberry Festival. In case you can't fit the festival into your schedule or are social distancing... you can enjoy the crowning jewel of PC right here at @lamichoacana.fl ... plenty of housemade paletas de leche (creamy popsicles), paletas de agua (fruit water pops), agua fresca (check out my video!) and fresca con crema - all prepared in a variety of flavors but you've got to get the strawberry! I enjoyed my first ever mangonada!!! The manager went over each step with me from first adding a thick coating of that savory/ tangy chamoy paste to the rim of the cup, then layering the inside of their cute signature barrel cup with chamoy sauce and Tajin, adding their homemade nondairy mango ice cream (more of a sorbet consistency), some more chamoy sauce, a few extra dashes of Tajin, a heaping scoop of fresh mangos finished with a traditional tamarind straw. The straw is a MUST with mangonadas - it's candy coated then rolled in chili powder. Sweet, smoky, tangy, adding a unique exotic quality to this Mexican style treat! Of course the last garnish and most important for any fancy drink/ treat is the paper umbrella!! They served their mangonadas as an iced treat you'd eat with a spoon and it is definitely shareable unless you're name is TampaFoodMom- I wasn't sharing my mangonada!!! Savory, tangy, cold, sweet- absolutely perfect!! Fun fact : Chamoy is a popular Mexican condiment, made with fruit, such as apricot, mango or plum, chilies and lime juice. Make sure you tell them TampaFoodMom sent you!!!

I'd been to the other one and this one was a couple years newer and I hadn't been to it, & it was closer. I like the wall booths all pretty and pink and it was pretty new inside. The service was nice. I did feel like there were less options of ice cream. I ended up getting a mangonada which was good. I was drinking / eating it for a while. My husband got a scoop of ice cream. This place is still quite nice and surely you can find something you like.

The plants are gorgeous and beautifully cultivated for the location and for sale. The produce is a combination of local and seasonal varieties as well as uniquely acquired varieties such as pink pineapple. The canned items are an abundance of what Florida farms can provide your pantry. Lastly, the strawberry desserts are the perfect way to end a visit to this historic cornerstone of Plant City! We went in February, toward the tail end of strawberry season, so shortcake was already out of season but their strawberry sundaes and shakes make pretty fantastic treats, too! Strawberry Festival time is the busiest of times, so know that traffic will be thick and parking will be sparse if you venture to this landmark during the festival weeks. I was driving from Tampa to Orlando in August and saw a bunch of signs for the "world famous" strawberry shortcake but couldn't get any :( there should really be a sign that details when the shortcake is available if it isn't going to be available year round but those signs are. It was pretty disappointing not being able to have it. I opted to get a strawberry bread (apparently it's always season for that) when I was there and it was really good! I wasn't quite in the mood for a milkshake, but the milkshakes are supposedly good here as well. Besides the strawberry treats, there is a whole store inside with a variety of jams, hot sauces, and merchandise as well as fresh fruit and veggies for sale. The seating area is really adorable (you can see it in the picture I posted). I guess I'll just have to come back during shortcake season to let you know if it's worth the "world famous" title.
