To start with the cons. I prefer my bed more on the plush side, the beds at Merriweather are more on the firmer side, that's truly my biggest complaint. This is usually the case in most hotels. Firm beds and true motion smart TVs seems to be the norm nowadays. Not a fan of either one. The pros: Great service, they know how to treat their Bonvoy elite members, got upgraded with no hesitation to a junior suite with a lake view and got breakfast voucher for each day of my stay. They have self-parking directly across from the hotel, easy getting in and out. The lake Kittamaqundi is the star of the show. A lap runs about 30 minutes depending on which route you choose to take. The lake is beautiful and well put together, I enjoyed walking the trail every day during my stay. Whole Foods is a short 5-7 minute walk. Plenty of shops within a 15 minute radius. Gym is standard, equipped with peloton bikes, treadmills, free weights, etc Overall, I strongly recommend and would consider future stays while visiting Maryland.

At least 2 had AC problems and could not get their rooms cooled on a hot steamy evening. Couple employees said they would reach out to discuss, but never did, that's okay. Not sure if they want to be Hotel or a Condo, stuck in between, go to 4th floor after the PIA parking instructions and going through several places where you out in your PIN? Just awful concept. I'm about 5' 6" and raised my arm a bit too high to touch the ceiling in the shower. No in room microwave, only the one in the lobby near the front desk. Looked like a full bar and restaurant in the area across from the elevators. The elevators are extremely SLOWWWWW. They do have a few snacks and bites for purchase beside the front desk as well and I did see a pool. One of the fixtures for the pole in the shower was lose; shower pressure is TERRIBLE; shower temperature was TBD each time; inside the toilet looked stained/scratched and rusted; cobwebs in one corner over the night table; a resident silverfish in one of the painting mats; should probably try entry doors that go to the floor and not let all the hallway light in when the room is dark; and the toilet made some weird sing-song sound every time it flushed. THE WALLS ARE PAPER THIN! (can't warn future patrons of that enough) Went from practically an adult film on one side of us, to what sounded like a kids party on the opposite side the next night!! Every conversation had in the hall sounds like it's in your room. Lose power outlets almost made me late to work...phones was completely dead because the charger had fallen out. The bed was as comfortable as the lobby was beautiful but those are the only two notable reasons to stay there again if that's what you're interested in. Otherwise, hard pass and would pay more to stay somewhere else.

One factor was the apartment fire on 8/5…read more The next several reviews I plan on writing center around the Fire era from early August to early September. This caused a change in course of events from August-October. On the evening of Sunday, 8/6, we were told to plan for 2 nights in a hotel, and that the apartment would reimburse for up to $200/night. I decided to stay close to my office. So, I chose the Homewood Suites in Columbia convenient off 95 and MD-175. The hotel was very nice; I had a beautiful suite with two separate rooms facing the tennis court. On Monday, 8/7 I had a very easy commute to my office in Halethorpe. I had work travel to Largo that afternoon, but it still wasn't too horrible getting back to Columbia. That night I went to Old Navy/Target in Columbia to get a 2nd set of clothes for Tuesday (since I wasn't driving to VA [where I was living] to get that) and had Mission BBQ for dinner, which I plan on writing a review for. Unfortunately, the weather on that Monday was rainy & cool. So, it was bad timing to take advantage of the pool although as I recall I didn't think to take a swimsuit. The other thing I was not aware of was that there is a free happy hour on Monday-Thursday 5-7 PM at all Homewood Suites. Sometimes it's just snack foods, and sometimes it's a full meal; so perhaps, I could've gotten that instead of Mission BBQ. Tuesday morning, 8/8 I checked out of the hotel, but the story with this hotel doesn't end there. That afternoon I had work travel to DC & Arlington. Arlington work had put me close to home in Arlington near Bailey's Crossroads. I was ready to get my life back on track, but the electricity was still out. I asked the apartment manager, and she said to plan for one more night at a hotel. I was slightly annoyed, but I went with this Homewood Suites again. I hung out in Bailey's Crossroads to let the traffic die down some before I made my trek back closer to my office. Therefore, I missed the happy hour again (It runs 5-7 PM) as I arrived at about 8 PM. This time the room I got was a different style and while big was technically a lower tier room than the one I had, which was a disappointment, and it was about the same price since weekday rates are higher. It was still a nice room, but the bed was queen instead of king. The shower wasn't as fancy, not two rooms, etc. Since I had gone home that afternoon, I was able to pick up a swimsuit. I was able to take advantage of the pool, but the water was very chilly. It wasn't really good pool weather as temperatures were below average for August. The temp at 8:30 was only 69 F. I did enjoy the hot tub though. It got a little crowded with a couple of kids who splashed a bit in the hot tub, but the parents were keeping them under control. I met a guy in there (would've been better if I had met a girl), but I'll take whatever company I could get. He was in town for work for 2 weeks and from my hometown, Phoenix, along with several other people. So, we had more to talk about. I went back to the room, which faced the pool, which seemed nice at first. That same group from Phoenix was drinking & making a lot of noise, which was a little annoying, but they eventually settled by the time I was ready for bed. Wednesday morning, I checked out of the room. Unfortunately, I found out from the apartment to plan for hotel stay until Friday, 8/11. However, the rates were going up beyond the $200/night limit. So, I went with a different hotel.

And when I do, my preference is usually to stay at a…read moreMarriott-owned hotel, mostly because I can almost always count on my following top-four priorities being met: * Cleanliness: The rooms and common areas are almost always very clean. * Safety: Entry into the rooms is almost always via an indoor hallway, where entry is obtained through the front lobby or by key-card access into one of the main hallways. * Quietness: Whether I'm traveling for work or for pleasure, I like to feel well-rested for a better day afterwards. And, these hotels are usually pretty quiet. * Free perks: As an elite member of this hotel chain, most of the time I get free perks during every stay. These are usually simple (like free bottled water), but they're appreciated. I also like to earn free stays for the future (for pleasure) by coming here on business. Within the Marriott chain of hotels, SpringHill Suites is one of my favorites because the rooms most often have: * A comfortable living and work space * A good sized TV * A mini refrigerator * A microwave * A well supplied free continental breakfast * All-day free coffee available in the lobby Now, on to the details for this specific hotel. This hotel, at the SpringHill Suites (Columbia, Maryland), was very nice during my entire stay. It met all my needs, with only two minor annoyances. These included: * All exterior doors to this hotel were non-functional for entry with a key-card during my entire time here. In other words, one could not enter from either side door or from the back; one could ONLY enter through the lobby. I'm not sure why the other doors were not working. * Unlike other SpringHill Suites locations I have stayed at, this particular hotel removes their free coffee from the lobby sometime after breakfast hours are over. This is annoying for guests (like myself) who like to have coffee in the afternoon or evening. In addition to the nice things I expect from all SpringHill Suites locations, the most pleasant part of my stay at this hotel was interacting with the staff here, especially Ahmed. He was incredibly friendly and professional, and I enjoyed chatting with him. He's definitely a five-star employee for this business! So, in summary, aside from two minor annoyances, I had a flawless experience here at this SpringHill Suites hotel. If this business corrects these two things, this location will be worthy of a five-star rating, in my opinion.

Maximum weight of pet is 75 lbs and up to 2 pets per room). Since my husband, our little girl dog and I were visiting Baltimore, we wanted to stay in an area that is safe. Columbia, which is about 20 minutes away from Baltimore, is a pretty safe city. We checked in on Saturday evening, a little before 10 pm. The employee at the front desk had a smile on his face when we greeted us and checked us in quickly. He also gave us a welcome gift of a small packet of Goldfish graham crackers and bottled water. After waiting 3 hours at the car rental at BWI... it was nice that we received great (and quick) customer service. The room we had was a king size bed. The room had a mini fridge, but no freezer. We also had a microwave and coffee maker. I liked that the restroom was separate from the shower and it also had its own sink. The room with the shower also had its own sink as well. I liked the size of the shower and thought the pressure of the water was good. I also really appreciated the liquid bath wash, conditioner and shampoo in the shower. I also like the counter space that the room with the shower had. But this room was smaller than the other SpringHill Suites that I have stayed at previously. But it was comfortable (although I prefer my mattress to be firmer). The room had a large couch, desk and chair. I wished it was brighter in the room. Breakfast is available Monday-Friday= 6:00 - 9:00 AM and Saturday-Sunday= 7:00 - 9:30 AM. Breakfast selections included hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, sausage, waffles, cold and hot cereal, various of juices, coffee, hot water (to make tea), sliced ham, turkey and various of cheeses, various of breads, muffins and pastries and yogurt. There is also a fitness center on site, which I did use one evening. There are 2 refillable water bottle stations, disinfectant wipes to wipe down machines, a weight rack, a few treadmills and elliptical machines. There is also a lap pull down machine as well. The hotel also has coin operated washer and dryers, but I did not use it during our 2 night stay. Parking was free and there was also WiFi. The WiFi was pretty good, as it never dropped on me. Overall, we had a great stay and would recommend staying here if you are visiting Baltimore.

Negatives- the water pressure sucks and the water does not get hot. You can't even take a decent shower!! I'm so unhappy about this. Our door was squeaking but maintenance was able to fix it with WD40 but he could not do anything about the water pressure or the temperature of the water! I feel like I'm in a 3rd world country, it's sad. Our room won't even stay warm. We have to keep turning the thermostat up. The elevators are freezing, wear a jacket or sweater. I wish I could move to another hotel but it would be too much trouble at this point cause we have too much stuff and two rooms. The room we have across the hall also has a water pressure issue with the shower and sink. Water doesn't get hot in that room either. Update: I informed front desk that the issues could not be fixed and they changed our rooms. Had them check the water pressure and temp before, so we are moving rooms.

The highlight of our trip!…read more A few things I must point out, the Yelp description for The Wayside Inn is now under new ownership. Susan & David are no longer the propitiators. I met the owner, an unassuming man in the kitchen and shook his hand when I left. Joe is the manager and greeted us when we arrived on Saturday. I told him we have dinner and concert plans and would be back late. He gave us a through tour on how to use the fancy coffee maker, how to use the jacuzzi tub (we didn't us it) as well as the robes. What struck me the most was the branding. The robes as well as the beautiful coffee mugs all had a wonderful logo. Once we took our belongings out and settled into the room, we decided to enjoy the outdoors. My wife grabbed a beautiful blanket and we went outside on the roof deck. We're just taking it all in, I had a bottle of Napa Valley wine I brought from home for us to enjoy, it was really picture perfect. The actual inn is over 200 years old, one of the historic homes in Maryland now made for my enjoyment. Did General Washington sleep here? Inquiring minds want to know! The staircase was truly a sight to see. Made from wood, they crafted these beautiful wooden turns to the upstairs. Creaky wood? Sure. It gives the inn a comfortable charm. Our bedroom had a magnificent sleigh bed and the sheets? Joe was explaining to my wife the thread count. I'm a guy, I was tuning it all out, haha! After a comfortable night sleep, I woke up early. I'm an early riser, I made myself a great cup of coffee and went downstairs to read my book. The sitting area with it's beautiful furnishings, it's a welcoming room. Everything is meticulously cared for, it was a pleasure to have this moment alone and take it all in. After an hour, I went upstairs and took a shower. We have 8:30am breakfast reservations, I want to get on the road to beat the traffic. We were served a French toast bake, absolutely divine. When staying at any B&B, the shower products as well as the food should be top notch. Staying at the local Marriott doesn't give you the same experience. After breakfast my wife made us Dove Hot Chocolates as we packed up. I highly recommend The Wayside Inn. From the quaint accommodations to the fab breakfast, I thank you making our stay special.
