    Carne Mechada Cachapa
    Ana C.

Cachapa with shredded beef. For toppings I added black beans, plantain and corn with queso de Mano. For the sauce on top I chose guasacaca (avocado and cilantro) and spicy verde sauce. This restaurant is similar to a chipotle style where you chose the base of arepa, Cachapa (sweet corn arepa) or rice bowl. Choice of meat, pork, chicken or tofu. Choice of toppings then sauce. A side item could be tequeños or empanadas. Very tasty, would definitely come back and try a different combination.

Affordable arepas, great location, done indoor and outdoor seating. They're assembly line made to order, so you can pretty much get what you want inside, regardless of the categories the menu has. Just be polite about it ;) I wasn't a big fan of the queso de mano, it's in big pieces and it's surprisingly bland, so it almost feels like chunks of plain tofu. Apart from that, everything was great.

I tried Somos and now I'm fighting the urge to be in New Haven every day... at Somos. The service is super friendly and they explain their menu very well. I got the pabellon off their OG menu and built my own too! The pabellon is the arepa of my dreams. It comes with carne mechada, sweet plantain, beans, cheese, and some really, really great garlic aioli. The carne mechada was so tender, every bite was perfect. (I'm literally too hungry to be writing this right now!) As for the build your own, I got a cachapa with pork carnitas, sweet plantain, beans, avocado, and the sweet pina sauce. I wasn't a fan of the cachapa but that was because of texture, not flavor. The sweet pina sauce complimented everything in the bowl really well. I like that they warn you how sweet it is, because it is sweeeet!! I personally am always a fan of that sweet element, but I can definitely see how it could be too sweet for someone. I loved the vibe inside as well as the decor. It's a beautiful spot and they have outdoor seating so you can soak up some sun! I clearly can't wait to go back lol.

Drive to New Haven which was a 40 min right specifically to try Somos Arepas. Im An arepa lover so im happy to have checked this off my list. It's set up similar to a salad bar where you need to choose your base ( a bowl or arepa) and then you can add your fillings with choice of protein, veggies, sauce ect . They also sell empanadas venezolanas It's very clean inside and staff was helpful and friendly.

    Plantain with hair on it

Used to love this place, but it has gone very downhill due to management. The last straw was finding hair in my food (hard to see, it's circled in the 2nd photo) after multiple visits of food being subpar at best. Seems like the beans and corn are now just lightly heated up from a can, and I have no idea what they are doing with the plantains, but they are not as good as they used to be. Very disappointing.

I've never had an arepa before, so I was excited to stumble upon this place. The space is open and inviting, and the employee who prepared our food was equally as friendly. I really enjoyed my arepa with pork carnitas, onions, and some other toppings. I only had one, but in the future I'd definitely order a second.

I always enjoy the arepas and chachapas from Somos, my inclination is more towards chachapas because of the sweet corn. The portions are sumptuous with options of vegetarian, chicken, steak or pork with a bunch of other items to add and options to top it off with flavorful sauces. Friendly staff, fresh and delicious food with a few options of beer and bottled wine to order from. I am a fan and always look forward to ordering from Somos when I am in the neighborhood.

    On trend exterior.

Stopped in here for a light pre-game meal before a show at College Street Music Hall. It's located in a perky little enclave of restaurants not far off the beaten path in downtown. The set up is pretty straightforward: pick an arepa (cornmeal pocket), cachaca (cornmeal pancake) or bowl; select a protein; choose a cheese; add some fixins and top it off with a sauce. I opted for an arepa with carne mechada, fresco, avacado, lettuce, tomatoes, plantains, pickled onions and chipotle may. It really hit the spot; I found that one arepa filled me up nicely. The staff were very friendly, and the vibe of the interior was on trend. The only thing I might change was that sauces should be available on the side. Oh, and the day we went there was no toilet tissue. But all in all I really enjoyed it and will be back.

Tequeños filled with cheese. Corn dough empanada with carne mechada

I had some takeout toinght. The arepa was filled with carnitas, plátanos, pickled onion, garlic crema and cheese. It was awesome! So much flavor. Tried the corn dough empanadas. One with chicken and carne mechada along with the tequeños which are filled with cheese. Both were delicious. The guasacaca(guacamole) and sweet piña(pineapple) sauces complimented both the empanadas and tequeños nicely. I apologize in advance for the not so appetizing photos. My camera isn't the greatest. But atleast the food was.

Delicious!!!! This fresh corn Arepa was so airy filled with flavor & some tender steak, cheese, pickled onions, jalapeno & sauce. Was a explosive of flavor with great fresh ingredients. What a wonderful experience to something I haven't ever tried. So worth it along with a beautiful night market the elm city hosted as well.

We were on the hunt for lunch in an area we don't normally frequent. Once again my fellow Yelpers guided me to something tremendous. I've never heard of a cachapa and if you haven't get down to this spot and try one. It's a a sweet corn pancake griddled then stuffed with a myriad of delicious toppings and finally topped with your choice of sauce. All the flavors melded together to make this an absolute joy to eat.

They have only been open already for 1.5 months. So, today my dad I went to grab a bite specifically at the Arepa food truck.I have been waiting for this moment !! Lol! So happy we did because it was delicious plus always glad we can support! I had an Arepa Rellena( beef) and as extras I added cheese and aguacate. Toppings are extra charge. My dad also ordered an arepa rellena but added cheese and sweet plantains to his . Arepas and Tequenos will come with a side of sauce with It. I wish they had an option on the menu where they had arepa that had everything on it for toppings with the option of chicken or beef and then also keep the other options as adding it separately for those who prefer that way ! So on to the drinks.. we both ordered Chica which is a creamy drink made out of white rice and tastes just like ( Arroz con leche estilo Colombiano ) rice pudding Colombian style. Soo good , it's like dessert but to drink! And my dad had tequenos which I couldn't have since they weren't Gluten-free but he definitely enjoyed eating those cheesy fluffy fried doughy deliciousness of goodness very much! Las arepas were very filling , we didn't wait long for them to come out either . The only thing is that my beef arepa did have some pieces that were kind of cold. No major issue , just wish it was all evenly hot . But that's an easy fix! The food was fresh, flavorful, tasty.. and it definitely filled us up. I just love arepas! The gentleman that greeted us( the owner) was so nice and very friendly!! Must say lunch was really good today!! Check them Out ! Now I know where to go for a stuffed arepa!

Sadly, just like the rest of the recent reviews I was quite disappointed by what I encountered. Everyone working was super friendly and attentive which was nice but I didn't recognize anyone working there. I didn't pay much attention to that but when the menu came it was greatly reduced and trying to be more "upscale". it felt odd as the main draw of Valencia for lunch was that it was fast, casual, affordable and delicious. I usually get the lunch combo that came with an aerpa, empanada, rice beans and ceviche but that wasn't on the menu that I saw. I ordered the street corn to start and got the bowl with a pernil arepa. The bowl was a large portion and everything was fresh. Taste wise things were pretty good but didn't blow me away. The pernil was only ok and that should have been the star of the show. I had to ask for aji and I was only given a small dish with some hot sauce as well. In the past your server would just hand over a bottle of aji and let you go to town. The food was decent, but not close to what I remember. The menu is The biggest let down was when the check came. I know things are expensive all over but lunch was $41 for some street corn, a jeujed up chipotle bowl and a coke. That seems wild. There was also a charge added for the kitchen which I get but it still feels odd to see additional service charges on an already expensive meal. As far as the renovations go it honestly didn't really seem like anything changed inside, maybe some fresh paint and tile? Unfortunately I will probably not return any time soon or even at all.

I ordered one of their signature arepas: The Joint and it was great. It was juicy, packed with a good amount of food and was a nice combination of flavors. As a plantain enthusiast this was the perfect arepa for me. 1 arepa would be filling for the average person. My boyfriend ordered the El Poco Loco for us to split which I wasn't too crazy about - it reminded me of a crispy chicken sandwich and I didn't care for the sauce on this. I didn't bother to eat this after the first bite. Additionally I got to try the tres leches and this was better than I expected. I'm always hesitant to try tres leches because there are so many ways to prepare it. This way was more classic and simple with just the cake and the 3 milks at the bottom. It came served in a square dessert cup. It felt a little small for the price but the taste was worth it. My only constructive feedback for the cake is that the cake would be even better if it was a little less dry as far as texture but that can be hard to balance as you don't want the cake to become too wet over time due to it soaking in the milk. I can't wait to revisit: I'll be getting the tres leches again and would love to try the El Guey.
