They shaved my husky mix, he had long beautiful fur and they shaved him!
    Rose P.

I don't really have words for how upset I am at this place. I've been taking my dog there for several months and it was never perfect but it was ok. My dog has beautiful long hair and every appointment I've stressed that I don't want it cut too short, they never seemed to be able to produce what my old groomer did or even the groomers at petsmart. So the last time I went I brought pictures of what I wanted, deeply expressed I didn't want it too short or shaved, I just don't understand what went wrong. When I came to pick him up they had shaved him. He has a double coat and it can be dangerous to cut their hair this short, they should have known better as "trained" dog groomers. And again I even showed them pictures, I just don't understand what in the world possessed them to shave a long hair beautiful dog.

My dog is shy and she's gotten to know all these people and comes one day a week to play with the other dogs. She has more confidence. They know her personally and call her by name. This is a "home away from home" and you can feel confident that your dog will get great care.

Yeah! Maine Animal Keeper is the best! Our dog had an amazing time in daycare! They were one of the…read moreonly Bangor doggie daycares that had early and late hours and are accepting new dogs! While we found the name a little odd and they came up almost last on a search for doggie daycares in Bangor (probably because they are in Hermon ME which is just 1 highway exit away or 7 minutes away). They are a very large facility and all the dogs are very happy. The limited interactions we had with staff - they were friendly and very professional. Reasonably priced with flexible longer hours. On the 2nd day of daycare, our dog practically pulled my arm off racing to go back to play! They gave me feedback that he had been well behaved and asked me a question about a scar he has so I knew that they had checked on him and knew who he was, despite the large number of dogs they oversee. We wish they had a camera system that we could log in to watch our dog play - I'd pay a premium for this service. Otherwise, Maine Animal Keeper is friendly, wonderful and we would definitely trust our dog with them again!

We were "greeted" by Arnold, telling us that we had the best room in the house, and because the rest of the inn was booked, we were to stay in that room only. It had a tiny, up high window, was about 40 degrees for several hours until it heated up, there was no water, kettle, or SOAP! When we asked for soap and shampoo, we were told that they were not included. We also were told that there would be no breakfast or even coffee. We were there offseason, so nothing else was open, so we just stayed in that terrible, claustrophobic, freezing cold room with no water. It was the worst place that my husband and I remember ever staying.

Our one kid/two puppy family gives Winter Harbor Inn an 11/10 because it's very clean, spacious,…read morecomfortable, and charming--a short walk from the grocery, restaurants, and historic downtown (cute, artsy, full of fishing boats). A dog-friendly, free shuttle will pick you up at the doorstep and take you around Schoodic Point (the prettiest part of Acadia National Park) and drop you back at the Inn after a hike. The backyard is fenced and has several outdoor seating areas where you can play fetch with Fido, sit by the fire, read a book in the hammock, or have a cookout (grill, wood, utensils, etc. provided) in a beautifully candle-lit setting. We also enjoyed playing board games with our 11 year old (they have hundreds!) one rainy night, how wonderful that our dogs could hang out in the room with us--Leisure Lee, especially, appreciated the dog bed provided. There's on site pet-sitting offered for an extra fee. But not with just anyone! Pam and Arnold are pet experts, breeders (pugs), groomers--they know animals inside/out and really spend time with them (long walks on the beach, playtime, feedings, etc.--they treat pets like people). We asked them to sit with our two puppies (bloodhound and boxer-mix--leather- chewing piranhas, really) from 6 am to 9 pm while we went into Bar Harbor for the day and when we returned Azy was in Pam's lap, and Leisure Lee was asleep, listening to music, by the fire--I don't know of any conventional hotel that offers pet-owners such peace of mind via this service. The breakfast--wow! Fresh fruit, yogurt, granola bars, organic oatmeal, bagels, cream cheese, wheat germ--you can eat healthy if you wish, but they also have pop tarts, kid-cereals, chocolate muffins, fancy creamers for coffee, all sorts of juices, unlimited pet treats and bottled waters. A family on a budget, we loved that we were able to place our own groceries, too, on the fridge shelf provided. That said, Three Sisters Café, down the road a ways, offered great deals on good food when we ate out, and the food stand in front of The Fisherman's Inn had inexpensive lobster rolls to die for. While there, we met an Italian couple, a family from Maine, and a retired librarian--all quiet, conscientious, interesting folks we loved meeting. But Pam and Arnold are the warm, whip-smart people (add to their pet-knowledge incomparable knowledge of fun things to do in the area) that really make the place into a one-of-a-kind, exceptional home away from home--they go way out of their way to make sure their guests are cared for, comfortable, and happy. We loved our trip here, and plan to go back, often.
