We recenly (permanently) moved to Bucksport, and I've been taking our pooch to the excellent River Road Vets in Orrington over the past couple of seasons (pre-Pandemic and pre-permanence). Our dog is an older gal (geriatric, actually) and suffers from hip dysplasia; laser treatment that she received in FL did a great deal of good for her. Sadly, the laser treatment is not available at River Road Vets; however, they generously recommended Lucerne as the place to go, since they do laser treatments. Great! So, last Thursday (7/22/2021), I called to inquire about their program and get our pooch in for continued laser treatments. I spoke to a very friendly gal ("Becca," whose name I could be misspelling) who (after I explained our case) said it would be no problem to get our dog in for an appointment. All she needed was our dog's former vet's paperwork. No problem. I gave her the vet's number, and she said she'd be giving them a call to get the records, then would call me back to set-up a wellness appointment. Becca said her pleasant goodbyes and that was that; I'd be hearing from her the next day, or so I thought. (Naturally, I then called the old vet to let them know that Lucerne would be calling for records. Not a problem!) Well, I didn't hear back on Friday. Okay; perhaps, they're busy, or the old vet is taking longer to get the paperwork to Lucerne. The weekend goes by; Monday, still haven't heard from Lucerne. So, I call this morning (Tues, 7/27/2021). "Donna" answers. I explain that I was following-up on my call with "Becca," and rehashed why I called. Naturally, I'm expecting a "Oh, no problem, let me see if we got her paperwork." Nope. "Donna" abruptly tells me, "I'm sorry, but we're not accepting new clients." Huh??? I was more than a bit dumbfounded at her abruptness. I say, "Well, I wish Becca had told me last week when I spoke to her about this [not accepting new clients]," and "Donna" then uses the old fall-back line of "Oh, the Pandemic has been so tough on us! We simply can't accept new clients at this time, dealing with our old (established) clients." Of course, I'm extremely upset that my time has been wasted, as my old pooch suffers! I dejectedly say that they were recommended because of their laser therapy. She responds, "Yes." Not even, perhaps, a recommendation to another vet? Nope. I had to ask. She says, "Well, there's Veazie [Vet]. Good luck." What else does one say...??? "Goodbye" and a bit of social media. [As an aside and most interestingly, I had this exact same thing happen at another popular vet clinic three years ago when we first bought our home and I was trying to establish our old gal into a local vet. Geez....] read more
