I'm exactly sure how we found SBP and AnneMarie, but however it was, it led to a shortlived journey that I would very much so not like to have again.
AnneMarie initially started off fantastic, being responsive and seemingly leading to my fiancee feeling much more comfortable with the wedding planning process. We were super happy with it.
Eventually, things changed dramatically in a way that still baffles me due to the complete lack of professionalism.
AnneMarie's contract was very clear that we were paying for day of coordination and that her contact with our prepared vendors would begin 30-60d prior to our wedding. AnneMarie began reaching out to us to let us know she wanted to get started even before that. We were excited that she was so on top of it!
She started reaching out to a couple of our vendors (possibly just one actually, but I don't want to relive communications to be certain) for which we had given her contact information. She even had a few nice tips and observations about contracts we had been negotiating with our chairs provider. Though her interjecting into the email thread did lead to a misquote from the vendor that we had to rectify, it was still nice to see her being so proactive.
Eventually, AnneMarie began asking for some contact information with vendors with whom we had not yet completed our planning; in particular, the restaurant where we would be conducting our reception. Given that we had not yet completed our planning with the restaurant, that AnneMarie was just to be our day of coordinator (ie not our planner!) and that it was still 80+ days out from our wedding (the contract very clearly indicates 30-60 day timing), we told AnneMarie that we would prefer to complete our planning with the restaurant before introducing her.
This apparently enraged AnneMarie. So much so that she insisted on a call in which she, I kid you not, dear reader, literally berated us into agreeing to introduce her to the restaurant. It was wild. It was done over Zoom but, for some reason, she kept her video off the entire time. During the call, she insisted it was necessary to work with the restaurant ASAP so she could coordinate vendors which was nonsense. None of the vendors needed to coordinate with the restaurant outside of flowers which we had already managed. The relevant vendors she mentioned were somehow my fiancee's hair and makeup artist? No idea what the plan was for them to do. By the end of the call, we acquiesced to her wishes to introduce her to restaurant. There was still nothing to coordinate given we hadn't finalized our plans with them.
Then, a few days later, still 70+ days out (ie prior to when we had agreed to begin the engagement) she sends an email telling us she wishes to terminate the contract and charge us $600 for the pleasure based on her hourly rate of $150/hr. This was an incredible turn after the Zoom call ending in us acquiescing to her wishes! First of all, $150/hr was absurd given that our contract never even specified an hourly rate for services in the agreement. Secondly, if it did, based on the total value of the contract, this would imply that she and her team had done everything they were going to do before the wedding day. WE DIDN'T EVEN WANT HER ENGAGED IN THE PLANNING IN ANY WAY AT THIS POINT AND HAD MADE THAT CLEAR REPEATEDLY. We only engaged with her because she kept insisting! We wanted to bring her in once we had finalized on our end with the relevant vendors and this is what was in the contract!!!
This was wild and borderline extortionate. Completely different from any other vendor-client relationship we have had during the wedding process and completely different from any vendor-client relationship I've ever been involved in personally or professionally. We were able to negotiate this down but not dramatically, largely because I wanted to just be done with it.
I now am out a nice of chunk of change and all I have to show for it is a Google doc with some contact information in it that we ourselves provided. read more
