My imaging was uploaded at check-in, and I was repeatedly told the doctor would see me shortly. I then waited 2 hours and 45 minutes without ever being seen by Dr. Andrew Yun. During that time, I was moved from room to room and repeatedly told he would be in "in a few minutes." Only after nearly three hours did the office manager tell me that Dr. Yun would not see me without the imaging reports--the very reports their written instructions said were not required. Why was this not communicated when I checked in? Why was I allowed to sit there for nearly three hours before anyone mentioned it? The staff was dismissive, rude, disorganized, and remarkably unprofessional. What was equally disappointing was that Dr. Yun walked by during this ordeal but never came in to address the situation or even briefly speak with me. I ultimately left after wasting nearly three hours without receiving any medical care whatsoever. A deeply frustrating experience and an astonishing lack of respect for a patient.

I've had 2 prior spine surgeries which were laminectomy and laminectomy revision. I was told my only option after that would be a fusion. After careful review Dr. Melikian recommended a microdiscectomy which ended up being the best decision for my back. The pain I was feeling daily is gone and the recovery has been much easier than previous surgeries. Although I live in Long Beach and had limited time to visit in person, Dr. Melikian was kind enough to initiate contact via email and responded promptly. He arranged a quick phone consultation at no charge. He came across as very amiable, genuinely concerned, and highly knowledgeable about the subject. During our conversation, he brought up additional tests and treatment options I wasn't previously aware of. The call was definitely productive and appreciated. My only gripe, generally speaking--not specific to his practice--is that stem cell treatments are exorbitantly priced and not covered by insurance. Expect to pay anywhere from $6,000 to $9,000 or more for various stem cell treatment options. So, not a go just yet until I figure out how to come up with the money, I will have to live with my back pain.

He often starts with some anti-inflammatories and doesn't recommend surgery unless you're old and really need it. However, he also doesn't believe in any alternative therapies like prolotherapy. When I explained that it changed my life for a disc problem I was having. He says he doesn't know much about it. He also said there's nothing to do about shoulder cartilage (arthritis). Since he doesn't seem to believe in prolotherapy, I'm sure he doesn't believe in any of the procedures being done to restore cartilage. He also wants to leave the room about 5 to 7 minutes in and you definitely feel rushed. Any recently my husband came in for extreme shoulder pain and he put him on a dose pak for a week, which did not help at all... Another doctor did an MRI and discovered significant tears. I'm sure he is a competent surgeon but.he seems to only wants to do NSAIDS or surgery. Nothing in between. And your visit feels extremely rushed., I will not be going back to Dr. Hannon.

I also had another issue where I could not accept blood transfusions of any kind. That also added to my level of fear and distress. The idea of a minimally invasive PAO is not something I had heard of before and was very anxious. However, Dr. Garabekyan was SO patient in answering every question I had. His assistant Susie was also amazing and gave us anything we needed. When in the hospital, he frequently visited and called to make sure that I was okay. As expected, my hemoglobin did drop, but thanks to the salvage saving method used, I never had any critical blood loss/feel the side effects of anemia. I felt very, very minimal pain. The medication prescribed was perfect. The "hard" part was the period of 1-2 weeks after leaving the hospital, as sleeping was very difficult due to being a side sleeper. Dr. Garabekyan's advice (using many small pillows to relieve pressure) will helped getting through the night a lot easier. Another thing that amazed me is that he would answer our questions even on his vacation time. His recovery process was VERY well detailed, and we never needed to guess on what methods of recovery he wanted us to do. I have been to many hip doctors at Cedar Sinai and other hospitals, and I've never had a doctor as caring and patient as Dr. Garabekyan. Choosing him to do the surgery was the best decision I could make and I'm so thankful to his excellent communication skills, and of course his incredibly awesome assistant, Susie! :)

Six weeks later, I'm back on the ocean riding my board--something I wasn't sure would be possible so quickly. What impressed me most was their honesty.
