My dog might have accidentally eaten some diabetes med during our short trip to Solvang for Thanksgiving, and after consulting GPT we started freaking out. We called the hospital and the front desk asked us to call poison control center who later asked us to bring our dog to the closest hospital. Luckily the hospital is just 4 mins away from the downtown area. I was in a lot of stress so I'm so sorry I didn't really get the names of all the wonderful people that helped us. I was really overwhelmed knowing that my dog could go into seizure any minute, and everyone was very friendly, helpful, and patient during our entire visit. They quickly did treatments and asked to keep my dog til end of day for observation. Unfortunately we had to head back to LA but the doc gave thorough instructions on observing him through the night and giving follow up kibbles every 2 hours to keep his blood glucose level up. She even offered to walk out to explain the situation to my husband who is allergic to cats and was waiting outside, even though she has a leg brace on and was using walker! (I hope you feel better soon!) Our dog is still not out of the woods yet but I wanted to leave a shoutout here to the doc and staff who helped us today. Thank you all so so much!! read more

I've never written a review to a veterinary before, but what an amazing place! My dog Tarsila had a skin allergy over the weekend and her skin was bleeding with two open wounds because of her scratching. I went to two vets called many others and nobody was available that Monday in SYV and even Santa Maria. I went to this place as a last resource. I'm so glad I did. Dr Abbot saw Tarsila right away, she is doing MUCH better now after the medication that Dr Abbot gave to her. Her assistant called two days later to check how she was doing (I've never seen a vet do that before) and asked to come back in two weeks (no extra charge). He had mast cell tumors that I'm managing with medication, so I immediately established care with a new vet when I move into town. They helped me adjust his meds to keep him comfy. Dr. MacVeigh and her staff were able to immediately care for our Naya when she unexpectedly went into to cardiac distress 2 weeks ago. The staff quickly sprang into action, meeting us at the car and whisking her into an exam room. Dr. MacVeigh examined her and unfortunately, our Naya was slipping away quickly, so we all agreed it was best to euthanize her to end her suffering. Naya was perfectly fine that morning and had run all over Avila beach the day prior, so having to put her to sleep was a huge shock. The staff offered us kindness, compassion, and Kleenex as we said goodbye to our furry companion and friend of 10 years. DR MACVEIGH IS AN ANGEL: I am a single mom who works long hours. Recently, my 19-year-old daughter called me in distress. Our cat was very lethargic and would not eat or drink. Doctor Macveigh not only raced our cat in to be seen, but spent long periods of time comforting my daughter in my absence. Labs were done and after the exam, she tried Valiently to save our cat, but in the end he had a very rare mutation of a cat virus that causes high mortality and could not be saved. My daughter called me crying. We went the next day together and I offered to be present in the room at the moment when our little cat went to heaven. But, my brave and kind daughter said she wanted to be there alone and so doctor Macveigh once again really took so much extra time and unprecedented love and attention to be there an extended period of time with my daughter in the room and not just explain things, but truly comfort her soul. Doctor Macveigh came to me right afterwords and with tears in her eyes explained how special my daughter was. I agree. However, as I told Doctor Macveigh, SHE herself needs to know what rare and special person she is and what an earth angel in disguise that she is. Doctor Macveigh is by far the most compassionate and skilled vet that I have encountered in all my years and I highly recommend her. God bless you doctor Macveigh. THANK YOU to Dr. MacVeigh and the kind and caring staff at SVH! We were working in the yard when our dog, Woody, came limping up and panting, in obvious distress. He is our universe so we dropped everything and carefully examined his foot but could not see what was wrong. He continued to limp and hold his paw up so we jumped in the car and headed to SVH. We obviously had no appointment, and had never been patients there before, but they could see he - and we- were distressed so squeezed him in. We waited only about 30 minutes. Dr. MacVeigh checked him out thoroughly and ruled out a serious leg injury. She put on magnifying glasses and found a teeny bee stinger stuck in his paw. She removed it and voila, Woody was instantly back to his old self. Dr. MacVeigh and the entire staff are caring and personable, and have a tremendous love of animals that is patently obvious on the first interaction. And, they are fabulous with worried pet parents, too. We felt right at home, even though this was our first visit. Dr. MacVeigh is the only vet I trust with my fur babies. The previous vet left without notice, I was absolutely furious as I had a fragile diabetic kitty. When I called they assured me she was wonderful and caring, at the appointment my kitty went right to her without hesitation, I was SHOCKED! Since then I won't take my fur babies anywhere else. I just took my 16 yr. old kitty to her (thinking this was the end), she assured me it was not, we just need to adjust her food as her kidneys were not functioning as the should be. I'm Patty Downs. I moved here 2 years ago & I've been using Dr. Sheri for my 15 year old Skye Terrier, Kooter for 2 years. Sheri is awesome and the loving care shows. I took Kooter in for dental surgery at 8:AM and picked her up at 4:PM, when I arrived I heard a dog "crying", then it stopped, at that time a staff member walked through the lobby with Kooter tucked under his arm. Sheri came out with her a few minutes later and told me that had been Kooter crying and she had done so all day before and after surgery unless someone held her, so staff members had taken turns all day. Now that is a caring doctor and staff. Our dogs and kitties are our "fur babies" and we want the best for them and Dr. Sheri does just that. When your old like I am they are even more important. Dr. Sheri is a wonderful vet, she goes into detail about what is going on with Kooter. I take her in every 6 weeks for a nail trim and they all love her and her long lacy ears.
