Before leaving Minneapolis, we booked a half-day yacht cruise for Saturday morning, which turned out to be lovely. The reason I mention the cruise is that our captain also owns Howl (as well as the Howl Adventure Center just south of town). We stopped into the retail store the following morning as we dodged raindrops, enjoying a chat with the captain and his family. I would characterize the clothing and equipment on the shelf here (as well as the Adventure Center) as "upper end" although insufficient to completely supply many an outdoor trek. That said, the equipment on sale was interesting, reasonably priced, not overly "touristy" (although there were some items geared to the visiting tourist). As an aging backpacker, it was very difficult to not pick up a few items, but I've vowed not to buy more "stuff" until I get my knees replaced! I did succumb to a few bicycling accessories at the Adventure Center, however! Howl Clothing is right downtown, just a block away from the docks and right across the street from the Bayfield Inn. It's worth stopping in to browse, and we will use their sailing services when next we visit during the summer.

Beware of their perfume oils. They are terribly misrepresented. The sample oil was a roll on, so I bought one and when I opened it at the hotel, I took off the cover and there was a flat top impossible to get off. It was supposed to be a roll on! Dissapointed, I got the flat top back on and the cover on. There was oil all over my hands. I put it back in its original box. I couldn't get a refund, so I put it back in my luggage. It got all over the box and other stuff in luggage. I live in St Paul and can't do much about it.

The guy appears "rude" to some (or to those whom are cultured sheltered and don't understand...) because that is the attitude of the majority of Europeans. It's a cultural thing and i'm sorry that others see this as rude. 2. Both employees that i saw were wearing face mask and one was wearing gloves. 3. There's a bunch of interesting biking gear, mid-to-high end bicycles, bike rentals, and apparently cross country ski gear and rentals during the winter months. After passing the big (nay, huge!) "wolf" swing set outside several times on our way to-from our B&B, we felt we had to stop by to check it out. The staff was very helpful and informative, although it was a surprisingly slow Labor Day. There is also a nascent brewery opening in the same building (Adventure Brewing), but they were not yet pouring their first batches (although they should be by now). We took advantage of the short walking paths through the fields, which apparently turn into X-C ski trails once the snow piles up. We were so impressed with Bayfield and its typical annual snowfall that we are planning to return in the winter for a weekend of skiing!
