I mass emailed a ton of tattoo parlors with my idea and only got one artist who was excited to take on the idea: Trina. She not only wanted to do it, but was legitimately excited to. What resulted was an amazing work and something I'm so genuinely in love with. As we went along, I kept wanting to add, add, and add! The final result is incredible. I'm so happy. Definitely will be getting another one from Trina as soon as the right idea pops in my head again.

I used Instagram to find the artist who I found to match my taste and quality. Went in met with him paid the upfront fee and set a date...Welp a few days before my artwork I get a DM saying he doesn't want to do the work...I was sort of devastated to say the least ( If you are reading this it is all good and I have nothing but love and respect for you and I understand). I reached out to Maira and she was amazing...gave me options to pick another artist. I chose Dany and was really impressed by how talented and dedicated he is to his art. Arrived at 11:30 am and left at 10:30 pm... Dany worked his butt off and he put his heart and soul into my piece. It came out AMAZINGLY. I cannot thank and recommend enough Ikonik Tattoo for their love and patience. All of the people that work there are phenomenally talented artists. Don't let their tough exterior fool you once you get to know them they are great people.

I only have a few tattoos, and usually the ones I have some type of significance. When my grandpa passed a few years ago, I knew I wanted to get something to honor him. He taught me how to drive, owned over 100 cars, and loved driving more than anything, so I figured a car would be a great way to memorialize him. Matty was the artist to bring my idea to life. He designed a mid to late 60's mustang with florals and a silhouette of my grandpa in the driver's seat. I was in love with the design as soon as he unveiled it. Based on the placement I wanted the piece on my arm I had to lay down in an awkward position, but Matty worked quickly and tattooed delicately. I couldn't be any happier with the finished product! As far as the shop is concerned, everyone was super polite. It can be intimidating walking into a tattoo shop, and you can tell they cultivated an environment for all here. He did a COVER-UP for me of a very old tattoo and there is NO TRACE of the original. He hand-drew over my old tattoo when we first met--and his drawing skills are remarkable. More importantly, he listened closely to what I wanted, made me feel at ease, and talked to me when I got tired (my tattoo took a full-day and a 3/4-day session). Andres is not your average tattoo artist and not your average person. He thinks deeply about art and knows a lot about many different topics: philosophy, politics, literature, and art history, to name a few. He is a great artist who works in the medium of flesh, flourishing his tattoo pen with aplomb. Certified Tattoo, however, is not the best home for an artist of Andres' caliber. The appointment/sales team is overly friendly in a manner that felt disingenuous. The front desk staff was not friendly; they did not say hello when I walked in and kept me waiting without acknowledging my presence (this happened during both of my visits). The main studio at the Yale office is very open and loud, full of male tattoo artists with stereotypical swagger (and too much testosterone). The secondary studio where Andres works is much quieter, but there is no privacy and no concern for the client experience. They did not ask me what type of music I wanted to listen to, for example, and I was forced to listen to 8+ hours of Matchbox Twenty. The lighting is harsh with very blue light. People came and went as I was being tattooed--without saying hello or goodbye. I was face down, so I couldn't see anyone and every time I felt someone hovering over Andres, it made me feel uncomfortable. The building itself has a beautiful mural, which I appreciate. However, the interior decor is all bright white with harsh gold. The cement floors are cool, but otherwise the decor is overwhelmingly stark. I think a tattoo studio should be beautiful inside--especially because clients are necessarily forced to spend a lot of time there. It's a case of form following function: a place where people make art should itself be artistic. The stars are for ANDRES, who deserves a whole galaxy!

We arrived about 10min early to fill out all the official paperwork (left $100 deposit each Friday night to lock in the appt). Mercedes had my wife's drawing completely ready and they started almost as soon as she finished the paperwork. Cres had my drawing done and we spent a few minutes talking about color. This is my first color piece so he took the time to make sure I was completely happy with the choices. We were out of the shop in about 3hrs total. Shop was clean, music was great, and Mercedes and Cres were fantastic to work with. In July 2023, I found out that my 7 year old service dog had stage 4 cancer. It had already moved…read moreinto his lungs, so I made the decision to let him go and it devastated me. I have been finding different ways to memorialize him and decided I wanted a portrait tattoo so I could have him with me all the time. I did my research and found a few tattoo artists who do dog portraits, but Jason Oz's work stood out to me the most with his attention to detail and how he was able to bring life to their eyes. Jason's communication is great and even when I had to change my flights, he was quick to work with me to adjust my appointment date and time by offering what he had available which thankfully was during my 5 day trip to Colorado. The shop is well kept and has a welcoming environment. Jason has a lot of experience and encourages the customer's input and preference. Jason let me try out as many of the 15+ photos I sent him to make sure I was satisfied. During this, he took the time to explain to me the specific pose that would be best based on location of the tattoo (straight on vs upper angle vs side view). Out of the photos we tried, the first one he picked was the perfect choice. For the size, he kept testing it on my arm to make sure I was comfortable. After 4 tries, we found the perfect fit. Jason was great at explaining each step and why he made each selection. Even while he was tattooing, he would ask about how I felt it was looking, took my concerns/thoughts seriously and made the modifications. I have had other tattoo artists fight me on things that didn't feel quite right, so it was a great feeling when Jason worked with me; even down to putting the reference photo next to me to let me compare. I am incredibly pleased with the entire experience from initial contact to final product. It is a fantastic memorial piece of my little Sy and I would very much recommend Jason Oz and the Denver Tattoo Company to anyone who is looking for a tattoo.
