We were on the hunt for flowering shrubs and Sollecito Nursery happened to be on the way to the one we had focused on. What a fortunate decision it was to make a quick u-turn to go back to Sollecito's. TLDR: Great selection, outstanding plant knowledge/experience, terrific customer experience. Choose this nursery not others nearby. Soon after parking Nancy approached to ask if we needed help finding anything. We were looking for relatively obscure plants which they didn't have however she suggested we all check in with someone else at the nursery (more on that in a moment). They did have beautiful varieties of butterfly bushes from which to choose. They were all healthy looking with many buds. Nancy explained maintenance and that included a cutting the plant (it's really a perennial , she explained) each April because the new growth will have the flowers each year. When we expressed concern that we may not be at the camp until May each year, she said that it would simply delay the new growth and therefore the initial blooms. Nancy scooped our selection up for us and we headed to the office to pay. Once there, Nancy asked Eric about those obscure plants. In particular, the Bloomerang Lilac that supposedly is hardy for our zone and blooms twice (spring and late summer). Eric said that they had stocked Bloomerang a previous year but the plants did not do well - didn't bloom twice and weren't hardy over the winter. Since we had read such positive reviews about it, we discussed for a bit and Eric had insightful perspectives including the possibility that the it could be worth another try. We paid for it he butterfly bush and to add to the wonderful experience we had already had, Nancy walked us back to the car, put plastic down on the floor and loaded the plant for us. Wow this place deserves a few dozen more 5 star reviews. It is so fun! When we first pulled in we knew we were going to love it. Not only do they have tons of plants, shrubs, trees, etc. They also have such a amazing layout full of eclectic buildings, quirky designs, and fun crazy decor. The prices are all really good and they staff are extremely knowledgable. We are going to buy a house very soon and have an idea about the layout and design. We had no problem openly giving them a budget because experts need those to work. I highly recommend coming here. They have so much stuff and it's so fun. I really can't find the words to describe it other then what I have said already. read more

Jim and his crew just updated a landscape they did for us four years ago, by moving some plants, adding new ones, introducing cobbles to four areas of the yard and gingerly placing a new layer of composted bark. Jim Sollecito is really the best of the best in the area. He's state certified, not by some diploma mill school or Home Depot or something. He has Cornell training. While at times a bit eccentric, it's in a good way, as he's passionate about plants and what will work with the least amount of maintenance. This is like a wonderland for gardeners... or even for those of us with confirmed black thumbs like me! It is absolutely beautiful: plants for sale are interspersed with gorgeous landscaping, and they have all price ranges and different types of plants. I worked with a really helpful woman, and when I told her I have a budget of $100 for 3 shrubby-type things, she asked a few questions (height, sunlight, etc) and then picked out three different plants that would coordinate. Then she walked me through how to plant (and gave me a brochure so I'd remember), and grabbed me a bag of fertilizer. They loaded my car and sent me on my way. If I ever decide to have the front gardens professionally landscaped, I'll be going through them! Fingers crossed that I can manage to keep my new plants alive! read more

I highly recommend Sollecito for anyone -- whether you know a lot about landscaping and gardening or are, like me, a complete n00b! I worked with Megan, a Lifetime Senior NYS Certified Landscape Professional, and it was an absolute dream. They have a whole process designed to get a sense for what you like, what your budget is, and what will work for your space. Even if you know nothing about plants, you can do this! They give you a big book to look through with pictures of different plants and their names, so you can pick what appeals to you. Then comes the part you need them for -- they will give you recommendations that will work for your space, and with your budget. They also will take into consideration if you want to attract pollinators, use edible plants, and don't want to do a lot of maintenance. If you need more advanced design help, they can do that too. You can install the plants yourself using their detailed instructions, but they also provide a full service option. We decided to do the hard work ourselves to save a buck, but without their expert knowledge I would have had zero idea what plants to get, how to plant them, how to take care of them, etc. Thank you so much! read more
