Solihull Fryer incorporates a Chinese style twist on the traditional fish and chips shop. Prices for the centre of Solihull are cheap as chips, cheap as chips, get it. Ok I'll stop now.
I ordered one of their spring rolls with a Puka Pie and chips. The chips are not as moist as I would like, however I was not disappointed with the size of the spring roll. Deep fried, there is nothing I prefer more than a good spring roll. This one was packed full of bean sprouts, prawns, chicken and beef. Not recommended for those on a kosher diet! I was biting a savouring my way through the spring roll when all of a sudden I get a sharp pain in my mouth. A chicken bone was wedged between my tooth and the roof of my mouth. This immediately put me off everything I was eating. Luckily I only had a few chips to go.
The Puka Pie was what I expected, chicken and mushroom goodness to its very core, I was just a little upset over the spring roll.
I did go back the next day because I was staying in Solihull last week. I had battered sausage and chips with a curry sauce. The sausage was fat and had no gristle in it and the chips were spot on. The curry sauce had a Chinese style flavour and was so hot it nearly blew my head off.
All was forgiven. read more
