When I came to him I was still dealing with pain from a shoulder surgery, I hadn't regularly worked out in over a year, and I had some bad habits from my time in the Army. From the start I was impressed. He took great care to remind me that doing things properly and painlessly was the goal, regardless of how much (or how little) weight was being moved. The workout plan during our sessions and outside of them has allowed me to be far more consistent and make the most of my schedule. His studio is outstanding, and the constant addition of new equipment and tools to help his clients always impresses me. The results are evident in the strength I've gained, and I'm in the best shape I've been in a very long time. Thank you Michael!

Shape Up Fitness & Wellness Consulting is a best kept fitness secret in Charlotte. They offer…read moretraditional and nontraditional ways to get fit in a still-expanding studio on Park Rd. I have received a wellness consultation there and participated in their bootcamp classes. You also have the option of one-on-one personal training where the attention is all on you and your fitness goals or you can opt for the bootcamp classes (what I did!) which are small groups between 5-10 individuals, where you will will feel like you are in basic training for the Army.:) My experience with bootcamp and trainers: The bootcamp exercises vary...sprints, jumping rope, circuits, abs, squats and more. It's truly one of those feelings where it hurts but feels good. You know what I mean? You know you are working hard but it helps get results. You can burn 700+ calories in just one session! The owner Michael (who also trains) and one of the trainers Tyson (she really works you out!!) really care about your fitness goals and they do not yell at you like in real basic training! In addition to training, Shape Up gives you nutritional tips and also has their own newsletter that includes articles based around fitness/nutrition, as well as a healthy recipe that helps you to stay the course. I know when I get it in my inbox, it helps me to stay on track! The prices are in line with other studios but the personal attention they give goes far beyond many fitness places.

What a great first time at Bar Method!!!…read more It's the new year and I've said for YEARS that I need to either join a yoga studio or go back to a bar class. I currently go to a gym but let's face it...I am getting up there in age and I can't be squatting jumping and pivoting like the young peeps anymore. They have three different themes (my current gym) so I'm only going to the strength focused classes. I need something else additional. I knew there was a barre studio near me so site unseen, I signed up for a small package online. Hahaha! When ya know..ya know, ya know? (Ha!) Like my first time at a barre class 9 years ago, I was slightly petrified. I'll be the new girl...who's 9 ft tall...who's not flexible at all. I knew I would stick out like a purple unicorn in a zoo (omg lol my description is hilarious so let's go with it) but honestly I am so determined to do more for myself and health I just had to breathe through that fear and I'm glad I did. Walked into a BEAUTIFUL space and was greeted. The instructor and the receptionist were both nice. They showed me the ropes and into class I went. The class was so good and just what I needed. Fast, efficient and brutal. Those 2 lbs weights start to feel like 10 lbs quickly. There are lockers, locker room and tons of merchandise. Beautiful and clean and calm space!! If you are looking to try it, just close your eyes, buy the class and GO! Your muscles and mental health will thank you later!

The reception area is open…read moreand welcoming, there are cubbies to put your bag and your shoes in, they sell DVDs and other Pilates ish, and there are bathrooms to change in. The practice area is beautiful; they are three separate rooms, one large room where there is a barre, 4 Cadillacs, and 4 reformers, another room for gyro-tonic, and a third room with a little bit of everything. All the rooms have hardwood floors and the walls are this refreshing light green color. The place is very calming and inviting. I have taken the Core Barre class on Tuesday night at 6:30 ($20) and the Reformer class on Thursday morning at 7am ($30). I highly suggest going to the Core Barre class to get a feel for the studio and then inquire about reformer classes. Their website has a lot of information about everything they offer. Tip: This place is not easy to find. You go down Fairview toward Cameron Valley Pkwy, flip a U turn at Cameron Valley Pkwy, and then take your first left into where all of the brick buildings are. They are back left if you were standing on Fairview. I suggest leaving early for class the first time you go in case you get lost like me :) Alas, you could probably walk in to class 5 mins late if it was your first time, they are very welcoming there.

It is so clean and fresh looking, and has the most up-to-date equipment I've seen. Allison (the office manager) is so welcoming and I always enjoy chatting with her before class. :) Monica (the owner) is a brilliant instructor. I love her Core Barre classes! I've been to so many other classes that leave me feeling exhausted, but she has a way of working every muscle, yet you always feel energized and fabulous when finished. I've also started Pilates private sessions...never knew that Classical Pilates was such a challenging workout nor that the Gratz equipment made such a big difference in feeling it in all the right places. Beautiful clean studio, professional staff with excellent instruction. Thumbs up!!

Because of this I was late and they refused to let me in. I spoke customer service and they refused to waive the late cancellation fee and no show fee, even though i explained that their 3 different location changes was what made me late. Faith - the instructor here is amazing. She's so sweet and personable and I would visit her studio…read moreshould she ever decide to open her own in the Charlotte area. Great with correcting forms and making sure you're doing movements correctly to avoid injuries/strains. On the other hand - the owner or manager, im not too sure who she was, was extremely rude and unprofessional. I visited this establishment via ClassPass as I have been using ClassPass in the Charlotte area for a few months now... and it's always gone seamlessly. However, the second I walk through the doors of this place h the manager, yells across the studio, to Faith, to "make the ClassPass announcement". Come to find out that BK Pilates has ended their contract with ClassPass and will no longer accept ClassPass reservations. (Okay that's fine, my reservation was made prior to the ending of their contract so I was good). But when another individual walked through the door, she had Also made her reservation via ClassPass but I'm guessing not before BK Pilates ended their contract and so the woman was not on the class list. Faith goes over to the manager to explain the situation and the manager responds in a very loud voice, to the point where the customer waiting, can obviously hear her about how she's not taking ClassPass and she can either pay for the class individually or leave. Never spoke to the customer.. NOT ONCE. After Faith had to go back and forth a few times, the customer ended up leaving as she wasn't expecting to have to pay for the class out of pocket. Once the customer left I overheard the manager, refer to the customer as a "b*tch", in the terms of "that b*tch can go". Oh and to add, this manager also, yelled across the studio to tell, what looked like a very loyal customer, that her credit card payment had been declined and she needed another one. SO unprofessional - I couldn't even believe it. It made me so uncomfortable and I will NEVER be returning here. Unless Faith is running the studio. I don't have an issue with the studio cancelling their contract with ClassPass as I can see how that could cause issues/a hassle. But I have an issue with the way the manager, owner, or whoever she was, treated ALL customers, not just ClassPass customers. Terrible. Don't come here.
