Well, positives first. There wasn't anyone in there so I was able to get my nails done about an hour before closing. I decided to go to this salon after I got off work late and my usual salon was closed. I really wanted to get my nails done for prom. At the beginning I was quoted 30$ after my student discount (spoiler, it ended up costing 45$ after the discount.) I then went and sat down. I had healthy long natural nails I had been growing for months for prom. I told my nail technician that I'd like to keep them as long as possible but put into an almond shape. She told me she wouldn't do the almond shape because it would be bad for my nails. I didn't want to argue so i agree and I told her she could do whatever she thought best just as long as they weren't square. That was a mistake because (even though I had repeated the "not square" multiple times) there must have been some language barrier and she thought I wanted square nails. And when I said to keep them as long as possible, she thought I wanted them to be as short as possible? So at the end I had cubed nails below the end of my finger. I tried to explain to her that I really didn't want cubed nails. She did try to fix them but by that point they were basically nubs. She did do her best to fix them I guess- So I showed her the picture of the nails I wanted (long, almond shaped, she had seen the picture before) and she did an okay job replicating the desire. I had it done in gel. In the past, because of the texture of my nails, gel manicures usually last one and a half to two months. I'm willing to pay the extra money at the salon because I don't have to worry about my nails for so long. When I was talking to my technician she agreed and said it should last about a month. Day of the prom, three days later, my manicure was already cracking. My technician had pushed my cuticles a full inch from my finger so I had cuticle growth a long ways away from my nails (I couldn't just pluck it either, it kept growing back.) under the manicure, my natural nails were cracked, brittle, and splitting on the sides (something that has fixed itself nearly a month later.) Most of all, the gel work that I had paid an extra fifteen dollars for than I was quoted was already chipped and ruined. My natural nails that I had left untouched for months were extremely short, cracked all over the bed, and cut in such perverse ways that they were growing at weird angles. On the fourth day I contacted the salon. I sent them pictures of my cuticles, the gel manicure, and several areas were small bits of dirt, a hair, and other debris had actually been set into my manicure when it was cured. I explained to them the up charge and how my technician had done two of the things I had explicitly told her not to and even if there was some language issue I literally showed her pictures. My technician said she had been doing nails in the US for nearly 23 years. I would figure she would be able to comprehend instructions to some degree at that point. In the end, the salon wouldn't give me any refunds or fix the manicure because their policy was that any cracking after three days was natural and they weren't responsible for it. I explained that the technician had told me that the manicure should last for about a month, but they said that isn't true and that gel manicures only last three days. I showed them pictures of my gel manicures from other salons and now they were still intact after two months (there was significant growth so it was obvious) and they told me to go back to those salons and I would not be receiving any assistance. As a college student who is very frugal, the 45$ was actually a big investment to me and I hoped at the bare minimum they would fix their mistakes and fix the manicure they ruined. This isn't even counting the rude comments from my technician (asking me who drove me there because I looked ten and someone must have brought me and later telling me long nails don't look good on a girl my age.) As Stephenville is mainly a college town, I don't understand how someone who often works with college students could be used to talking to students like that. Do note, this happened a month ago at the end of June and I didn't have the ability to review them then. Still very dissatisfied and it is single-handedly the worst experience I've had with any business in my entire life. It honestly felt like it was out of a movie. read more
