i don't frequent the library much but when i do...i come here. the ladies are so helpful that they find out what my kids like and if they don't carry it...they order the books in from other libraries for them! oh and....it's ok if you lose your library card...they keep your info in the computer system...you just have to show your drivers license! woo hoo

I like what Clare McDonald said on the library Facebook page: "Love this branch for many reasons: helpful staff, lots of DVDs and CDs, an entire wall of magazines!

If you ever find yourself bicycling through the neighborhoody nooks and crannies off Coast Highway,…read moreyou might find yourself passing by what looks like a homemade oversized birdhouse mansion filled with books. "What *is* this?" the uninitiated gasp, with emphasis on the "is". In an otherworldly narrative tone, the kind you hear in movie voiceovers by calm, staid older bookish women, you hear the words, "This is a Little Free Library." This is your mind's voiceover, and it's narrating to you in real time as you explore this homespun freestanding structure. LFLs are this completely nifty, addictive concept I've seen scattered about in the country's best neighborhoods. You won't find them in overly restrictive neighborhoods strangleheld by HOA rules or excessive local restrictions on grassroots freestanding installations. You'll find them in neighborhoods with progressive, loving people. It's a sign of good times. You don't need a library card, you don't need to pay anything, you don't *need* anything. This is for human Beings. Human READings. Brought to you by HumanKindness. It is simply filled with books the rest of the community has read and shelved, for you -- yes, YOU -- to freely pick up and take with you to read. Simple. If you have books (don't we all?), bring them down to the LFL to trade. This Del Mar LFL was organized over a year in tricky Del Mar regulation zone from Kate Zimmer, who deserves a prize for locating one on this somewhat busy pedestrian/bicyclian local beautypoint. Thanks, Kate Zimmer! It is a beautiful jaunt down Coast Highway from my home in Solana Beach, a perfect rest stop before the dog beach or the La Jolla trails ahead. Who couldn't use a GREAT book on the beach? Speaking of GREAT books, I've consistently seen this LFL populated by books I REALLY loved reading! I've picked up Carrie Brownstein's (of Portlandia fame) Hunger Makes a Modern Girl, Dale Carnegie's granddaughter's Rich Habits for a Teenage Girl, Neil Gaiman;s Ocean at the End of the Lane, and more. I've left Isaac Asimov's 30 Year Science Introspective and Lewis Thomas' Secret Lives of a Cell. More neighborhoods need LFLs. Especially sea and sun sprayed LFLs on route to the rest of your daily adventures. If you're visiting, check this out and bring one home to your neighborhood at home!

For…read moremany years, San Diego Jewish Academy had a strong sense of community, excellent teachers, and leadership that seemed focused on what was best for students. Unfortunately, that no longer appears to be the case. Over the past few years, a series of decisions by the school's leadership has fundamentally changed the culture of the school, and not for the better. Families who have been part of the community for years are choosing to leave, and it is not difficult to understand why. When long-standing members of a school community begin walking away, it should be a signal that something is seriously wrong. The most disappointing part is that the decline feels avoidable. Rather than building on the strengths that made the school successful, management seems to be making decisions that have weakened trust, damaged morale, and eroded the sense of community that once defined the school. This review is not written out of bitterness but out of genuine disappointment. Many of us wanted this school to succeed because we believed in its mission. It is painful to watch an institution with so much potential lose the confidence of the very families who helped make it successful. I sincerely hope the Board and school leadership take an honest look at the growing number of departing families and ask why this is happening. The school still has talented teachers and tremendous potential, but without meaningful changes in leadership and decision-making, I worry that the downward trend will continue.
