What a cute little bookstore. Volunteer Jeanine was really nice and helpful and a great "face" to greet customers. It was my first time there... parking was a little confusing since it's shared with the school. I got some greeting cards, a couple books, and a calendar - my first time there, drawn in by the 3rd Annual Ranch & Coast Book Crawl. I had to leave in a hurry since school was getting out I had to make a quick escape. Hope to go back sometime when I have more time! read more

I love having a library so close to my house. Its been recently updated, plenty of space to sit down and read. Its modern, airy and bright. There are a few different meeting rooms for different activities, library hosts many events for kids and teens. I'm a frequent visitor there for baby, toddler story times and related actives. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Morgan is great program coordinator for kids, he is very engaging. If the library doesn't have the book you need you can request it from the online catalog and pick it up in a few days, their book collection is very extensive. read more

Yes it is noisy with kid programs, but get over it and enjoy the lively vibes and pretty good selection of books and other things. There are plenty of chairs to sit and preview your potential book selection and the staff is nice and efficient. What more can you want, maybe more parking right by the library but not sure that's possible with the HS being right there. read more

i don't frequent the library much but when i do...i come here. the ladies are so helpful that they find out what my kids like and if they don't carry it...they order the books in from other libraries for them! oh and....it's ok if you lose your library card...they keep your info in the computer system...you just have to show your drivers license! woo hoo read more

What a beautiful library! Just like Solana Beach, itself, the Solana Beach library is gorgeous yet low-key. Located on the campus of Earl Warren Middle School, this should be the wave of the future in consolidating schools and libraries near or even adjacent to one another. I like what Clare McDonald said on the library Facebook page: "Love this branch for many reasons: helpful staff, lots of DVDs and CDs, an entire wall of magazines! Oh and yes: there are lots of books and interesting programs. You can even check out a laptop computer and update your Facebook page on free wifi!" Plus the design is modern and stimulating. Fresh, vibrant colors are used and industrial style design gives the Solana Beach Library a contemporary feel so kids feel cool about hanging there. It is most definitely NOT like the stuffy, dingy and bland libraries of the past! Regular storytimes started up again this past September. If you have little ones, come by on Monday mornings for Toddler/Preschool Storytime at 9:30 am & Bilingual Baby Storytime at 10:30 am. This is how you develop a love of the written word with an impressionable baby or toddler: inspire them with visits to a library where they can learn to enjoy books and reading. It will help the kids when it is time for school and give them a head start om learning--if only learning to SIT STILL! Because of the library's affiliation with the school, they have two sets of hours. This library is so close and convenient, right next to everything/where I shop/go to the gym, etc. They are always very nice, and helpful. It is attached to a Junior High School, so the only beef I have is that the kids come in there and are quite loud and rowdy. The staff doesn't seem to mind though, unfortunately. They also have Spanish/Knit/Art classes right in the library, so it can get loud. The little kids' section is cute, with pillows/chairs. My kids love hanging out there. I wish they had a better Books on CD collection, it seems quite outdated. Overall, I am thankful that we have a cute library so close to home. I love the automatic checkout! Bring your earbuds. It's the only way to block the noise from the kids. They can get loud. They're not even studying, just talking and laughing. I wish the librarians would say something. It's not fair to the other patrons. Also the bathroom was filthy. I won't be graphic about it but someone needs to check it once in a while to make sure the toilets are not clogged with...stuff. read more

One of the better SD Library systems I have been able to visit. It's a pretty decent size, and has a wide selection (much better than it's Del Mar neighbor branch, which is very very small). There is plenty of parking in the lots near the baseball fields. I'm not sure if this changes during the school day, as I went on a weekend. I went on a Saturday afternoon, and it was not very busy. I was quickly able to pick out what books I wanted, and use the self-checkout. No lines. read more

I am so disappointed in this library. I come back to visit the area often and never had an issue keeping my card here so I could check books out while visiting. I currently reside in AZ and called the Solana Beach library to renew my card. After going through multiple people, I was unable to do so. However, online there is an option for you to pay $5 for the out of state card. The lady I spoke to said it was a "moot point" and I would be better off getting a local card. ...that's not the point. I've never had a harder time getting a card or giving someone money! read more

This is NOT a library but more of a book depository! There ARE only 2 librarians that are nice the visitors bring kids or kids just show up and treat the place like it's anything but a library! People talk loudly through meetings card games and everything. Some male patrons use the computers to contact and chat with young half naked girls I watched a woman report this today and the librarian pulled the guy aside then allowed him to use the computer again I mean with all the children that go there one would think of their health safety and overall well being. With all the noise I watch one librarian approach a man who was taking very low on his cell phone and told him to go to the lobby yet everyone else including librarians can talk as loudly as they please? What ever happened to no talking or whispers in a library? WORST LIBRARY EVER! read more

This is a nice-looking library but so noisy! The junior high school kids hang out here all day long. The library does not control the noise level, so it's not a good place for study or reading. Lots of computers, limited book selection. Still, as part of the SD Public library system there are loads of benefits- just don't expect to be able to think while you're here. read more

I am a library patron and I very rarely buy books anymore. I patronize four libraries the most: Carlsbad (the largest and perhaps most comprehensive of the ones I visit), Encinitas (gorgeous), Rancho Santa Fe (cozy) and Solana Beach. Solana Beach is my favorite. This library is always hopping and the staff is so helpful and friendly. The collections are nicely organized. I can always find something interesting to check out at this library. Great children's section, and a nice, separated young adult section too. read more

This library has the most wonderful and helpful staff. And you can order any books you like from any county library, or even from libraries all over California if the local libraries don't have something you are looking for. The "terms" are great. You can renew any number of times as long as no one has put a hold on the item. They also have many wonderful programs for people of all ages. It's not the biggest library in the system, but it's really excellent. read more

I enjoy coming here for several different reasons. They have a wide selection of books and you can order them in either hardcover or epub digital versions for Kindles and Nooks. The selection of movies isn't as good but it is cheaper than Netflix. They also have story time for both babies and toddlers. Good opportunity to get out of the house and to stimulate the brains of the little ones. read more

The library is part of the solid San Diego County Library system. Unfortunately, the library is understaffed so there can be lines to get help. The computer mice and keyboards are also quite dirty. read more

I utilize this library approximately two nights a week. Mostly on Tueday, and Wednesday evenings on my way home from work. The library is next to a middle school, and is utilized by the kids. There is some noise, but I guess with having kids at home I have learned to shut it out. I enjoy the youth being in the library and hearing some of their conversations, to be young again and only need to worry about my classes and who does or does not like me. I find the staff to be helpful, but not overly friendly. They do in fact make as much noise as the kids. But again, it is my choice to utilize this library. I could easily stop in Del Mar or drive over to Encinitas and use the library. However, I just really like this library and the atmosphere. I work for the government and my family is in South Dakota. So the kids being in the library, kind of help me resolve being home sick. Some of the kids have become my friends, and yes they confide in me their problems. Guess its because I have gray hair. So yea, if you dont like kids, cant stand noise, or are just grouchy. Hey go to Del Mar or Encinitas to the library. read more

This is the worst library I have ever visited in my life. I usually visit the library from 2:30pm - 5 or 6pm and I have never been in a library so loud. Are library's not quiet places where one can study or read in peace anymore? I don't understand why the librarians don't tell the children who are making all the noise to quiet down and/or kick them out. I have repeatedly seen kids on their cell phones talking out loud as if they were at home or in a public place. I really hope the librarians read this and improve the conditions of the library! read more
