I recently had several rugs cleaned and one repaired, and the entire experience exceeded expectations. Mehmet handled everything personally, and his honesty and kindness stood out from the very beginning. He walked me through the process, explained what to expect, and delivered exactly when he said he would. The repaired rug looks better than it has in years -- the color is vibrant again and the cleaning brought back softness I thought was long gone. Pricing was transparent and fair, especially considering the craftsmanship involved. Highly recommend Mehmet for anyone who values quality work and genuine integrity. read more

Very knowledgable and honest. I had one repair and two cleanings done. Mehmet was great. I will definitely visit again.

Expert services, very responsive, picked up directly from my home. I will be using again for my oriental rugs

Mehmet Solak really knows and loves historic Central Asian and Turkish rugs! The repair work he did with our rugs, which had been roughly treated for many decades, was amazing. Looking at the rugs with him and talking about them and what was best to do for them was a profound experience. When he brought them back, they were much more than mended: they were restored! Some of the work he did here, and some in Turkiye, and all of it was perfect. Thank you, Mehmet! read more

I took several hand-knotted carpets to Solak Rug Repair for professional cleaning - it was a mix of rugs that were purchased in Nepal, Pakistan, & Afghanistan, and all had been stored. They smelled musty. In a pretty short time, Solak Rug Repair returned the carpets in good shape. One had some moth damage on the end, and I didn't have hope I would be able to use it again. Mehmet offered to remove it by cutting off the damaged end and weaving it closed. The work was well done - it is smaller, but now I can put it out for show. I am happy with the work, and - icing on the cake - I thoroughly enjoyed talking and learning about different kinds of carpets. Mehmet works from a solid technical and cultural understanding of how to clean and care for carpets, and I can highly recommend them. read more

Mehmet at Solar Rug Repair was great to work with. He cleaned and repaired our 90 year old Persian rug. It turned out beautifully and he finished ahead of schedule. I loved that he taught me about the rug and his price was fair. I look forward to doing more work with him again. **He has moved and is working in Edmunds. Phone unchanged. read more

I picked up my (now) gorgeous hand-tied Persian rug from Mr Solaz this afternoon, and I couldn't be more pleased. He inspected the rug at drop-off and provided me with options for minor repair. As you can see from the photos, he treated my rug like (she) went to a fancy spa...but for a very reasonable and fair cost. I highly recommend Mehmet Solak for all your rug cleaning and repair. read more

Mr. Solak recently repaired my old antique Persian carpet that was unraveling at both ends. He did a wonderful job of securing both ends and fixing the warps so that they were even. My carpet looks beautiful and is no longer coming apart. Mr. Solak very graciously dropped the carpet off at my home after it was repaired. I couldn't be happier. I stopped in to his rug repair studio and it was amazing... filled with naturally dyed yarns and divided by country of origin. It is clear that Mr. Solak has a passion for buying and restoring old carpets. Thanks to him, I am hoping my carpet will last another 100 years. read more

I worked with Mehmak on cleaning 2 rugs that were extremely dirty - and figured it would take a miracle to remove some of the heavy stains. Mehmak was quick to respond, accommodated my schedule to pick and deliver the rug, and explained his process to clean them. Mehmak returned the rugs in impeccable shape - and his expertise and love for the craft was evident. He managed to remove and repair the spots we both thought would be impossible. I am very lucky to have found his service - the rugs are looking like new and better than they every looked. I would definitely call on him again - the price was reasonable and worth every penny. read more

I had very old, dirty and damaged persian rug inherited from my mom. I was skeptical that he could repair and fix the part that was badly torn and missing. Not only my carpet came out super clean and looks new (all the details of pattern become visible), he did it in less than a week and delivered it on time. Mehmet is very professional, and he really know his craft very well. A very pleasant experience to work with. Highly recommend him. read more

Mehmet Solak is a craftsman of the sort that are all too rare. He took our beloved 100 year-old hallway kilim and repaired multiple holes, making it better than it was when we bought it more than 20 years ago. As others have described, we made an appointment for him to come see the rug. When he determined it was worth repairing, he took it back to his shop. A week later, it was back, better than ever. In fact, it's impossible to find where the holes were! Mehmet is one of only 5 skilled rug repair people in the country, and we feel so fortunate that he lives and works in Seattle. He is a warm, wonderful human being as well. Our experience could not have been better in any way. read more

I feel extremely fortunate to have found Solak Rug Repair. My Mother's 40 year old carpet tote (she carried this on every trip to see me) came to me after she passed last year. The loomed rug material and the seams were starting to look a little worn and I didn't want it to deteriorate any more - I also wanted to be able to use it without damaging it more. Mehmet restored it back to a functional, solid bag. He was even able to devise a way to fulfill my wish of increasing the stability of the bag. I wanted it to stand upright and open when set on a surface and he added beautiful ribs he made from rug fibers that he integrated beautifully into the bag. I was also concerned about setting it on the ground, so he added a complementary leather bottom to the bag. I couldn't be happier with the beautiful craftsmanship and the incredible value of my work with Mehmet! read more

Mehmet Solak repaired 5 70 year old Afghan carpets for me. I have been dragging these carpets around the world since I bought them in 1981. They have been trampled on and vacuumed ruthlessly and the fringes we destroyed. He repaired my carpets quickly and made them presentable again. He is great to work with and does an amazing job. I highly recommend him. Beth Turner read more

I inherited several rugs from my mother and had no idea what was what and so, I looked for someone who specializes in cleaning and repair and wow, do I feel lucky to be living close to one of the most knowledgeable specialist that I can imagine! Mehmet was very professional, very experienced, easy to work with, and honest. He was extremely helpful in explaining where each rug was from and the type of workmanship, what was worth repairing and what was not, etc. When it came to cleaning and repair, he did a fantastic job in a reasonable amount of time and everything looks great. Highly recommended! read more

Mehmet is a true artisan. He took my old rug from 1950s Afghanistan and rebound the edges, repaired a rip, and locked the fringe. All of this made an old 'hand me down' from my grandparents into an heirloom we'll treasure. His love of rugs is infectious and his knowledge of various traditional methods of rug weaving/knotting is encyclopedic. If we had more rugs, we'd bring them all in. read more

I found Mehmet Solak from his reading his excellent Yelp reviews. I contracted with him to repair and clean 1 old carpet (unknown origin but Mehmet was able to identify it for me) and 2 Turkish kilims. Everything about this experience was superb. His communication is excellent. He is professional and clearly knows carpets/rugs and is in particular an expert on antique carpets. His work is impeccable. As a bonus, he is delightful. Our carpet/rugs were delivered today and we could not be happier with his work. They are restored to their former glory. As Mehmet put it, "the colors are smiling now." I don't know if that's a translation of a Turkish idiom, but if it isn't it should be because it pretty much summed it up perfectly. Will absolutely use him again for future needs. read more

Mr. Solak gave us an awesome deal as well as awesome service on our rug repair. We had a really unique rug that would have normally been really difficult to get repaired and cleaned but Mr. Solak did a fantastic job and the rug looks better than when it was new. I would definitely use this rug repair and cleaning service again. Our rug had oddly colored wool that Mr. Solak matched exactly. He even showed us how to repair the rug but ourselves as well as providing us with some spare wool. read more

We've used a couple of companies for rug cleaning services, but none came near to Mr. Solak's performance. Our rug looks better than new. Mr. Solak picks up and delivers without extra charge. Not only is his price competitive, but more importantly, the quality of work is unmatched. read more

Mehmet was a great find! I have several handmade, wool, natural dyed oriental rugs of various sizes which had gotten very dirty over the last few years. One of them was also unraveling at the ends and needed to be fixed. He came to our house just a few hours after I called him, inspected and measured each rug carefully and gave a very detailed quote. He also talked to us about the origin of each of our rugs and the patterns, etc, I could tell he was very knowledgeable and really loved his work. He turned around the rugs faster than he estimated (only one week for 8 rugs) and each of them looks clean and beautiful. Better than they have in years. The repair of the unraveling end was perfect. He is polite, prompt, experienced and very good at what he does. I will definitely be using him in the future for any carpet cleaning or repairs. read more

Very knowledgeable and helpful expertise. What I learned from Mr. Solak enabled me to decide to spend *nothing* on my '50's era wool Persian rugs because their value didn't warrant extensive work and expense. He demonstrated for me -- on the sidewalk out side of his business location -- how to effectively get rid of dust before attempting to wash the rugs myself. He also said, as we talked in March, to wait until August to wash them because quick drying is better for the fibers. Even though that visit was ultimately free of charge, I'll be mentioning Solak Rug Repair's awesome expertise, dedication and customer service every chance I get. read more

I inherited a very old rug from a family member, and it was badly frayed on one end. Mehmet did a beautiful job of mending the end so that it wouldn't fray further, and he also cleaned the rug. It looks better than it has for many years. In addition to being talented, he is such a nice man to work with. I recommend him highly. read more

When Mehmet Solak brought my two cleaned rugs back to my home, I was in awe. It's as if I had never seen the real rugs before! One has a whole new glow. The other looks like it was made from rubies. I am so grateful for Mehmet's care and passion for his work. Don't hesitate to call him. read more

My mother-in-law, who is a textile expert, had a great experience here. Here is what she had to say: "What a stoke of luck! For years I had been stewing about a "Persian" rug I inherited from my parents. It has been in my possession for over 20 years and it had never been cleaned, I'm ashamed to say. It was hard as concrete and the edges were beginning to fray. Something had to be done. During our meeting, with the rug present, Mehmet patiently explained what he would do to restore my rug, what the different procedures, repair and cleaning, would cost and how long it would take. Mehmet knows his craft and he delivered on all counts. The rug has come back to life! The colors are vibrant, the damage has been repaired and, most surprisingly, the washing has restored the loft and softness. It is now a pleasure to sit on the rug and to run your hands over it. You can even tell the difference just walking on it. I am delighted with the results and enjoy my "new" 100 year old rug every day. I feel fortunate that I found Mehmet, The Rug Magician!" read more
