Mi espanol es muy malo.
This statement alone made me unsure if I would be able to go into this Supermercado and order up what I had been craving...a homemade Gordita! A coworker had told me about this little place, which is only about a 5 minute drive from my casa. I'd been by it a few times but had never known there was a taco/gordita/fajita/etc. stand right in the back of the store!
I walked in and found the counter to order pretty quickly...the filled bar stools around the counter helped clue me in. After eyeing the menu, I realized they did have what I was looking for! Then seeing the grill fully loaded with lots of gordita goodness I knew I was in the money. I sheepishly ordered one beef fajita and chicken gordita...with frijoles and queso of course!
I waited at the counter as they prepared my gorditas, and watched the ladies making homemade tortillas and preparing french bread for fresh tortas. After a few minutes my order was up...the bag felt heavier than I expected and was surprised to have so many gorditas for only $5. I actually think they got my order mixed with someone elses, but I had the cashier check and she said they were all mine!
I drove home with the smell of fresh fajita filling my car to the brim. I got home and tore into my foil wrapped goodies. The beef fajita was quite possibly the best gordita I've ever had! Not too much beans and just enough cheese, but more then enough beef to fill my tummy! Soft but crisp on the outside and with a little of their red sauce I was in food heaven! I then tried the chicken and wasn't as pleased with the flavor, but still jam packed full of the pollo.
Since they did mix up my order I still have about 4 of these bad boys to munch on throughout the next couple of days...so much for getting my diet back on track! :-/ read more
