Before choosing a contractor, I talked to and received pricing from around 10 different masonry guys. Some of the quotes I got, you would have thought they were building the wall out of gold bricks. Hall Masonry came in around the lower-middle of the pricing I received, and after seeing the finished product, I absolutely feel like I made the right choice. Russell gave me exactly what I wanted at a fair price without sacrificing quality.
Another thing I really appreciated was that the price Russell quoted me was the price I paid. There were no surprise charges or extra costs added at the end. What we agreed on from the beginning is exactly what he honored when the job was finished. That alone says a lot about how he does business.
From the initial quote all the way through the final installation, Russell was great to work with. Communication was excellent, he kept me informed throughout the process, showed up when he said he would, and actually listened to what I wanted instead of just doing whatever was easiest.
One of the main reasons we decided to replace the existing fence with a block wall was the invasive bamboo coming from the neighboring property. I explained that concern to Russell from the beginning, and he took it into consideration when planning and building the wall. I really appreciated that he understood this wasn't just about putting up a wall. We had a specific problem we were trying to address, and he kept that in mind throughout the project.
The timeline was great as well. They started on a Thursday and finished the following Tuesday. Hall Masonry doesn't work over the weekend, which I didn't realize beforehand, so the project took six calendar days from start to finish but only four actual working days. For roughly 140 feet of block wall, I was very impressed with how quickly and efficiently they completed it without sacrificing workmanship.
The masonry itself came out excellent. The wall is straight, clean, solid, and exactly how I pictured it. Russell's entire crew was great, professional, and clearly took pride in their work. They also did an excellent job keeping the work area clean and organized during construction. Masonry can obviously create quite a mess, but they stayed on top of it throughout the job and did a great job cleaning everything up when they were finished.
I also had Gerardo installing my new gate, and Russell worked extremely well with him. I had a specific idea of how I wanted the wall and gate to come together, and Russell and Gerardo coordinated everything to make it happen. They communicated with each other, kept me informed, and made sure the wall and gate worked together as one complete project rather than feeling like two separate jobs. The end result came out exactly how I wanted it.
The finished wall and heavy-duty gate completely changed the look, privacy, and security of that side of my house while also addressing the bamboo problem that started this whole project. Looking at the before, construction, and finished photos really shows how big of a transformation it was.
After talking to around 10 masonry contractors before making my decision, I'm extremely happy I chose Hall Masonry. Fair and honest pricing, the quoted price was the final price, excellent workmanship, great communication, a professional crew, a clean jobsite, and they followed through on everything that was promised from the original quote all the way through the finished project.
