After touring Roskilde Cathedral and the Viking Ship Museum we went to Cafe Knarr for a Viking…read morelunch. It was right next to the museum and we heard good things about it so it was an easy decision to come here. There was both indoor and outdoor seating but we opted for a quieter inside. We ordered and paid for it at the counter. Pick up was also here when food was ready. Staff completed every step perfunctory. The Viking platter was served on a wooden plank filled with food and tastes of the Viking era. This interpretation included pulled pork, coleslaw, smoked halibut, prosciutto ham, cheese, Nordic hummus, berry compote and breads. Or favorites were the pulled pork, smoked halibut and the berry compote. We were not a fan of the Nordic hummus, which seemed just to be mashed peas but overall we enjoyed finishing the entire plank. Several tables were set up, inside and on an enclosed patio, with 8-10 people per table. I saw three servers and don't know how many chefs were working in the back. We started with drinks outdoors, then moved indoors. We were given our choice of wine, beer, or soda. Then a lovely roast beef dinner was brought out to us. Besides the tender meat, there was also a medley of vegetables, little potatoes, and a flavorful sauce on the plate. For dessert, it was a dense chocolate cake, raspberry (?) sorbet, and a few berries. The presentation for all of the food was beautiful. The restaurant is by a park with a view of the water nearby. Other than being loud, because of so many people, everything went smoothly. It's not easy hosting a large group like that, but they did it beautifully.

The potatoes could have been more crisp, but that is probably just my opinion. I did not have their more fancy menu, since you can get similar stuff in Copenhagen; it was the schnitzel that was on the menu for me, because apparently no restaurant in Copenhagen really excel in this. Actually we also got some snacks and bubbles to start with, and they were very tasteful (unfortunately they might have forgotten to serve one snack, as I overheard the other table finish the snacks with a potato croquettes or something, but I might be mistaken).
