Now the girl running the dressing rooms was a little too busy chatting with the helpers. However I accomplished my goals and had an amazing time shopping. What a quaint & Ecco friendly concept in making bags, totes & accessories out of recycled sails…read more Not only was the Sales Associate Sarah, too kind in sharing the 411 on the store's history & products, she gave us mini tutorials on the Vineyard's life. She was even kinder for allowing me to charge my phone while we explored through Oak Bluffs. To Note: *Sea Bags are made out of sails & transformed into nautically inspired totes & accessories. *They clean their sails before making them into bags as the materials retain their origin. *All SB materials come from Maine, New England & the USA in that order. *The sails are collected locally by passionate boaters with the community waters as their happy playground. *Each Sea Bag is created by different & skillful Maine individuals; artist, craftspeople, design school graduates & world-class sewers. *On the Ecco effort, for the last 15 years, SB has saved over 500 tons of material from going into landfills. Upon on our return to pick up my fully charge cell phone, I perused a little deeper & noticed the wide variety of candles, jewelry & clothing. But, it's on Martha's Vineyard - everything is expensive, and it's full of tourists. So you should expect to find that at Menemsha Blues just like you would anywhere else. It is similar to Black Dog, but not as big, and not as ubiquitous. I also disagree with characterizing it as a "chain." It's a local store that has several physical locations in the area. As far as their products: the quality of everything they sell is excellent. We bought several clothing items from them, and they were worth every penny. My husband seriously considers a trip back just to buy more of the polo and button-up shirts there because he loves them so much (and you can't get most of the items on their website, which is the only slight issue I have). He routinely gets stopped while wearing their items, because people like the small fish logo and it's so unusual, and they want to know where he got it. By all means, go to Menemsha Blues, and the original store in Menemsha is quite charming. If you dislike paying for quality items or buying from a store that has several locations in the area it was founded, I guess you can skip it, but you're doing yourself a disservice.
