Sod Express or SunState Tree Services 12-24-2012 I have had both branches of Sod Express and SunState Tree Services work on our property last week and would recommend them for both sod installation and tree pruning. The first delivery of six palettes of sod was the wrong strain of St. Augustine. I mentioned this to the foreman, Ben, and was told the correct sod would be delivered the next morning. The team went ahead and prepared the yard by removing the old weeds, roots and leveling the yard. By 10:00 AM the next morning the new sod was delivered and the originally delivered sod was removed. We had agreed on a price verbally over the phone and the owner, Randy, actually reduced the price slightly because I had to wait for the project to start. Ben noticed a large (4 inch dia.) dead branch about 30 feet up in one of the trees. I asked if they could remove it and while at that removed a larger (10 inch dia.) branch that was shading the grass area. We agreed on a fair price, but overnight I wanted to add several more. The upcharge for adding these was less than half the original price. We ended up about 300 sq short of finishing the yard. I went ahead and paid the bill in full, something I normally don't do, but felt this was an honest company with honest employees. I was told they would be out Monday to finish up and sure enough at about 11:30 this morning they arrived with the needed sod. During the entire job ALL of the employees were courteous and professional, and most amazingly smiled continuously. I couldn't believe that I didn't hear one single complaint in two days of hard work. They moved a dozen ornaments from under the trees that needed pruning so as not to damage them and then spent a significant time cleaning up our yard before they left. I questioned a few pieces of sod. I was told that if I followed the watering directions it would be fine and if it wasn't within 30 days just call and they would take care of it. Working with Sod Express was a great experience and one I will repeat when I have the funds to do the front yard. Worst place ever, went to buy half a pallet of grass and the old fart was giving me the driest grass they had ever, then started yelling and cursing; went to get a refund and the lady inside took the old farta word and accu me of being disrespectful what a nasty person she was!!! They also have landscaping service called - Sun State Landscaping. DO NOT USE this service‼. The technician Scott they sent to my house is rude and unprofessional. After three attempts to mow my lawn and trim my bushes he did a terrible job. Started cursing at me. I told him never to come back‼ Even sent me a text message acting like a fifth grader calling me names. I'll be reporting this experience to the Florida licensing bureau, Florida Consumer bureau, Better Business Bureau, and any other place I can find on the Internet. read more

I deeply regret ever going with this company. I paid for a full pallet of sod to be installed and landscaping of the front garden, and I was incredibly disappointed. They pulled out the old boxwoods as requested, but the new plants that they replaced them with were barely 6 inches tall. The sod rapidly started to die, despite the fact that we followed the installer's watering instructions to the letter (leaving us with a HUGE water bill and a dead yard). The front of the house where the garden was now looks 10 times worse than when it had the old boxwoods, which at least had some height. I called repeatedly and asked them to come back out and look at what we were left with, and nothing ever came of it. Total rip-off and now my homeowners association is on my back again, after having spent $2000 trying to spruce up my yard! Horrible customer service. read more

In searching for sod, I came across this place. I checked out the reviews, but decided to give them a try anyway. Compared to where I was getting sod it was a total let down. They did have some saw, but it was just OK. Definitely was not worth the price in which I paid more than I normally do. I have a few pieces I'm probably going to have to replace, the customer service was not the friendliest I feel (but now I know it's not just me). The young lady never told me when she process my payment even though my bank did and never offered a receipt or anything. I didn't ask for one because he it is just sod but they don't have to worry about your boy coming back. read more

We contracted with Sod Express Nursery to replace sod at our home; approximately 5400 square feet. Kevin and his team arrived on time on March 16th and started removing the old sod. They returned the following day to complete removal of old sod and on Friday installed all the new St Augustine sod. They worked a little overtime but managed to complete the job. A month later and our sod is rich, thick and beautiful. Kevin and his team are true professionals. We are new to Florida and Kevin was so helpful setting our sprinkler system so our sod will be well watered. Words cannot express how happy we are with Sod Express Nursery and Kevin and highly recommend them!! read more

Not only was it late...the delivery guy tried to give me this pallet which I refused if course. You have to tell them to give you one closer to the front of the truck bed or you will get dead grass. read more

Sadly we had an expensive and disappointing experience with Sod Express. I should have read the numerous terrible reviews before ordering sod from the company that is associated with A Sun State Tree. We ordered multiple pallets of floratam St Augustine grass and we laid the sod the next day it was delivered. It was delivered at 5:30pm. Upon laying it, it was extremely yellow and looked like it was heat stressed. It was in awful condition. I called Sod Express, was told to email the office manager with a description and photos. I followed the suggestion and never heard back. I emailed 2 more times and left voicemails. The office manager or owner never responded back. It's super disappointing that a local company lacks care and concern with customer service. I finally had to give up on Sod Express assisting in anyway and pulled up the dead grass that already had mold on the leaves. I went with another local company called A1A Quality Sod and had an amazing experience! I've attached pictures of the awful Sod Express grass and pictures of the green grass form A1A. Both pictures were taken the same day we installed the grass Please do not order from Sod Express! Their sod farms are garbage. read more

They took payment and said Sod would be delivered on Tuesday. At 3:30pm Tuesday I called and they said it didn't get picked up so it would be on Wednesday. They had NO plans to call me, they did not care that we had been waiting for delivery, took the day off work, or hired help to install the sod. The service clerk was rude and asked me if I wanted a refund. This company obviously does not care about customer service or referrals. read more

I wish I read the reviews. I am a residential home owner and ordered 7 pallets of sod. $1300.00 wasted. The sod was cut to low. If fell apart when we picked it up. I went and spoke with the manager and they admitted the sod was bad and said to send an email to the owner. The owner, after ignoring me for 4 days, said HE HAS NO QUALITY CONTROL OVER THE SOD DELIVERED!!! What you get is what you get. He owns a sod company! One might think a quality product should be high on his list! DO NOT buy sod or allow your lawn maintenance company buy sod from sod express. Unbelievable experience, Randy the owner does not care about customer satisfaction or doing what he says he will do, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. I had to have my credit card company reverse charges before Randy would call me back. I had to pay over $1000 to fix a fountain that was improperly installed and done without a permit so it had to be brought up to code which I paid for. Randy said he would pay for the repairs but is now avoiding me. The sod they use is garbage, the plants are poor quality and they stand behind NOTHING, what you get is what you get I was told. Every experience with them has been negative and I've had to pay someone else EVERY time to fix what they did. I now have to go through the aggravation of filing a suit in Seminole County to get my money back. read more

I had work done by this company a couple of years ago, and did a good job removing trees. However, for anyone reading this, never purchase sod from this company. It's a scam! They delivered sod with fungus and in shock, and refused to replace 11 pieces of sod affected. From Nov18 when they laid the grass, until Nov 30th, I called everyday for relief, but was given the run around. Couldn't believe this was the same company, Not professional at all! read more

I recently purchased $830.00 of Sod in 10 separate trips to the store . Not only enduring terrible customer service but, when I showed them that 22 pieces were completely dead from fungus they refused to replace them ,would have been about $30.00 after I just spent over $800. Shame on me for not checking Yelp first. Went to pickup a half a pallet of classic today for a small project. Found they only accept MC & Visa, as well as cash. No Disc, no AMEX, no personal checks. The guy in back did not want to load a half a pallet of grass @ 10am, who would in FL this time of year I suppose. Anyway, I assume he just liked to move pallets full with his fancy tractor - less work. Sadly he took it out on the grass and heaved it into the bed of my pickup all crazy like. Being a new sod enthusiast I didn't realize that by tossing in the already dried up pieces, 1 out of 3 became damaged. If you have to get it from here, YOU pick out the grass yourself and get a pallet full. The grass had not seen water in over a day, maybe two or three as I got a portion from the last third of a pallet. Was more brown than I like to see in new grass, especially one that was "just delivered yesterday from the farm". You roll the dice here, I moved on to another local vendor much cheaper. Sure pays to check first. read more
