The days and times of operation include every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Great Hills Trail and Jollyville Road (in front of Juliet's Italian Kitchen). The market brings together 40+ local food vendors and artisans in an outdoor space at The Arboretum. What really stands out is the variety of items available for sale. You'll find everything from fresh baked goods, local produce, and meats to hot foods, plus a wide range of handmade items like jewelry, apparel, art, and home goods. I purchased an alligator pastry from My.Boulangerie....so delicious and decadent. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming...very much like a neighborhood market vibe. It's free to attend, family friendly, and dog friendly, which makes it an easy Saturday outing whether you're browsing solo, meeting friends, or bringing children and fur babies. The market is set up in a parking lot space. Another highlight is the chance to talk directly with vendors. Many are small batch food producers or independent artisans who are happy to share the story behind their products, which adds a personal touch you don't get at larger commercial markets. If you have any scheduling concerns, you can give them a call and they will give you an ETA accurate within ten minutes! If you'll be out of the house, you can reschedule for another day. Unlike other delivery services, they will make sure you're home and not leave your frozen meat at the door unattended. I will be canceling all other delivery subscriptions and switching to Hardies. You can even tip your driver in cash if you wish.

Hardie's Direct curbside pickup service has been an AWESOME alternative to HEB online ordering or…read morestanding in line at grocery stores. All you have to do is submit & pay your order online at least 1 day ahead, then select your pickup time (8AM - 3PM (Mon-Sat)). When it's time to go get your groceries, you drive up to the warehouse, give them your order number, then pop open the trunk. They will wheel your groceries out and put them directly into the car trunk for you. We have ordered from Hardie's a couple times so far, and the produce has consistently been good quality (a few bruised items here and there, but nothing major). Since we are only ordering for 2 people, some of the bulk perishable items are not really an option for us. But this would be an even better deal for families or homes with multiple roommates! Driving Tip: Hardie's provides some directions and instructs customers to look for the orange cones. In addition to that, we've noticed you can enter the business park from Burnet or Metric. Both sides work, but Hardie's is a little easier to find if you enter from Metric.

They did not have enough shares for extra folks to buy but the concept and ability to join a CSA was way cool. We did cook some of the veggies the same day as picked. Having children interested in veggies in a new light, fantastic. Pricey for these campers, but the lessons learned are life long. Incredibly fun to see children understand food does not come from Traders Joe's, but from a farm. Not sure these children understood the process of roaming pigs resulting in bacon. The owners market the farm extensively. A future generation is educated on sustainability. Outstanding!

We selected Green Gate because of the location (its one of the few farms actually IN Austin city limits), the variety of produce they offered, and the overall value. Every Saturday morning, we would take the short drive to the farm to get our fresh veggies. Some other CSA's have your veggies all bagged up for you ready to go. Green Gate does it a little differently, and we like their way much better. For CSA members, there is a chalkboard listing what is in the weekly share (i.e. 2 heads of broccoli, a bag of green beans, 1 head of each variety of lettuce, etc...) and then like at the farmer's market, you get to select your own. They also have a farm stand for non-CSA members or in case you need an extra squash (but trust me, you will never need an extra squash!), some eggs, fresh meat, flowers, or a tomato plant, you can pick that up there and skip the grocery store altogether. We really enjoyed our bounty and discovered some new veggies (hooray for kohlrabi!). We are eagerly awaiting the first Fall harvest. But be forewarned-you get a LOT of veggies and things could get ugly. Between my friend and me, we were feeding 2 two-member households. The veggies had no shame, and why should they? They were fresh, young, delectable. They took over my refrigerator and ganged up to intimidate my other food. Tortillas were hiding in the back, trying to go unnoticed. Yogurt was cowering behind Salsa, while Salsa was just trying to blend in. I found non organic store-bought Carrots withered and dead in the deli drawer. It appears to have been a suicide, but that was the last straw for the older inhabitants of my fridge. I could tell they were planning something big. After the Carrots incident I had to start giving away my excess veggies before there was a Mutiny on the Bounty.

I have been making Buda's Farmer's Market my ritual every Sunday, as I usually get there around Noon time which still gives me a couple of hours to graze and browse and shop. I've met pretty much everyone there and it's got a nice selection of items as well. I know we're not supposed to have favorites, but I do have a few of them that I just visit on a regular basis. - Springtown Coffee Roasters - oh my goodness I love these ladies and their coffee! They have this really refreshing drink called the "Coffee Soda" - it's their Ethiopian blend mixed with carbonated water served cold, w/ ice, add some simple syrup - and WHOA! It's the best damn coffee drink I've ever had - no joke. Very refreshing, one of a kind, they need to bottle this up. I have bought a few of their coffee beans as they have a plethora of offerings. What I love about them is they offer high quality products, they know their beans, the origin, and have a specific roasting process that sustains the integrity of the bean. I can't say enough about them - only 4 bucks for a cup of coffee soda and they will give you free refills during your time there. Sometimes I come here just for their coffee soda - The pickles and jarred jelly couple up front - I have bought from them, and I love their garlic sweet and hot pickle chips. The juice can be used as a salad dressing too. Of the various pickles I've tried in the past from other vendors, these guys taste the best IMO. Huge selection too - The pickled green beans and beef / turkey jerky guy - - I buy from him on a regular basis. My favorite is the garlic picked green beans - LOVE THEM! Growing up in Michigan my bff's mom made the same and called them "Dilly Beans". I buy 3 jars at a time, you get a buck off, and if you spend a certain amount you get a $10 credit. Jerky is pretty solid too - the hot is really hot btw. He's an all around nice guy too. - The garlic puree lady - oh yeah - she makes this awesome garlic puree that you can basically put on ANYTHING! Very deep and potent garlic flavor, rub it on your chicken, I rubbed it on my grilled cheese before I put it on the skillet - WOW! I love garlic. - The kambucha girl - she's gone but her stand is still there, they have some unique flavors such as blueberry, peach, ginger lemon, and you can mix and match. I am a regular here and bring back the glass bottle and get a buck off. - The Empanada stand up front to the right - they are also at Sunset Farmers Market. My favorite is the bolognaise, brisket, and the strawberry / rhubarb. Love their sauces too! Other vendors I have bought from there and really like: - Fresh veggies - Fresh peppers - Salsa guy makes some good salsa (from Llano I think) - The cheese guy has some nice cold smoked cheeses - The salsa / tomato puree / bbq sauce / queso / jalapeno ranch girl - oh man she's got some goodies (also at Sunset). Best damn queso ever. Aaron told me it took 2 years to restore this Trolley - and what an amazing job he did! This Trolley was definitely an eye catcher to the otherwise mediocre Sunset Valley Farmers Market this morning. The Green Molly is at the SFC Sunset Valley Farmers Market every Sat and they also do catering. Aaron said that they were doing a BD Party after the FM today. So what is this Green Molly business all about? PECAN BUTTER based "Farm-To-Plate Sandwiches"! The peanut butter of the south Pecan Butter is a great alternative to peanut butter for those with peanut allergies (like my niece so sad for a child to be deprived of a PBJ - and with Pecan it is still a PBJ:) The menu is mostly PB based sandwiches like the Classic with strawberry jam and witty named Elvis with banana and the Willie Nelson with turkey bacon added to the Elvis and there is a James Brown that involves chocolate and strawberry. Also on the menu is Grilled Cheese a Veggie Sandwich and an Egg Sandwich (cheddar tomato & bacon fritatta) that sounds amazing. Also Pecan Butter Cookies and specials like Bison Chili and Pecan Butter by the jar of course. They also have Gluten Free sandwiches. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you are a Saint Edward's student, you need to get on the ATX Food Mart train. It has been vital to my college career.
