My mother-in-law told me that this office was fast. So I came in and followed proper procedure. I, then, texted her and asked... "How long did you wait when you came here?" She replied, "one hr"... I love her but that would have been faster than the 2 plus hours I have been STANDING here and without assistance... My feet hurt due to lack of seating and I still have to leave to get my little ones. This wait time is insanity. Where are the tax dollars for hiring to expedite this? They may be too much to ask. I did find out there is a way to make an online appointment, but it too late now.... Again, my feet hurt. This is a new fresh hell. After 2 hours, they could not help me because no one told me what I needed to have... If you plan to come here... Make an appointment, or come early. Just know NO one is assigned to to lobby to answer form question. Or your experience can mirror mine. read more

Awesome awesome awesome! I went in expecting to spend hours in there waiting. I brought my book and my iPad to entertain me. I arrived at 8:55am - there was a small line at the door of people waiting to check in and some already seated with numbers. Check in is very easy, you just answer a few questions on a computer screen then it prints you a ticket with a number. A clerk comes out right at 9am and begins calling numbers for people to line up. I was one of the first called. They have almost every window open with clerks helping people. I applied for a new card with a name change since I just got married. Brought my drivers license, marriage license, and birth certificate. Didn't need the birth certificate. I was out by 9:10am! So fast and easy!! I was very impressed. read more

When I came in here to update some information after I got married, it was such a breeze. I did arrive about 20 minutes before they opened just because I didn't want to be waiting all day. There were already 3 or 4 people in line. The doors opened promptly and I was all checked in within a few minutes. I thought it was fast and efficient they way they handled things. **changing name after wedding info** After reading a lot of reviews I decided to come 5 minutes early no appointment on a Wednesday. I walked in and got a ticket. I barely had time I find a seat in the 40+ people waiting when they called my number. Checked in at 8:59 out by 9:15. Super easy! Also, read to bring birth certificate, old social security card and marriage license. Not needed. Just fill out the ss-5 form ahead, take marriage license and that's all you need. The lady helping me said you can even do the dps first as long as you have a marriage license so it's just a myth that the social security office needs to happen first. My husband has been here twice and each time we did not wait long. Reps were friendly and moved fast but effectively. There were a lot of people in the lobby. I realy think they go by what you are there for as far as how fast you are called up. Also some people now waste time now and days going to places when most companies offer a lot of services online. read more

Notes and Advice from My Visit to SSA: POSITIVE Communication: Your progress is tracked through your visit via tv monitors. After taking a ticket upon arrival (a must!) you can follow the preceding numbers as they are counted down until it is your turn. Also, shortly after arrival you are prescreened (window 1) and given a rough idea of the time until seeing a counselor. Occasionally window 1 is all you need. Professional Rep: The reps are as good or better as other service providers - wireless companies or financial services companies. They are friendly, knowledgeable and patient, kudo's to them - they do not have an easy job. Security Guard: He is tough, in charge, takes no disrespect - and the place would be a disaster without him. He truly runs the show, often going to the front of the room and communicating the rules aloud to everyone. I'm sure some visitors are upset when he tells them to stop talking on their phones or to take their loud conversations outside - however without him it would be complete chaos. And he is accommodating to moms with little kids. NEGATIVE: Understaffed: Prepare to spend between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 hours. The room seats 55 and every seat is taken. Prepare accordingly - bring your laptop and do some work. Read a book. Watch a movie (with headphones) on your iPad. Meditate. Complaining is not helpful. And you will find that the agent is generous with his/her time. Forms: Only original documents, or copies issued by the originator and noted as such, are accepted. You are wasting your time if your documents are xerox copies. Online: Save yourself a visit - check online to see if you can complete your needs online. The SSA actually has a lot of information and forms (id cards, etc). This is poorly communicated. I give credit to the SSA; I was pleasantly surprised by the organization and professionalism. I've noticed there has been a lot of negative comments about the security officer, I have frequent this office several times and he does ask for people to quite down and to turn off there their cell phones a lot, well its because he has too, there clearly are several signs about the food, drinks and the cell phone usage. Rude people are the problem not the security guard! All is takes is a little respect and I haven't seen much of it for all that he has to do, it's a federal building people! read more

If the world knew the extent of abuse by this hellish place, no other would ever hate Americans for knowing what they have to put up with. We pay into this system and it is the highest in abuse toward the same very tax payers who pay into it and when they are disabled and less than 67 years of age. It is run a whole like a prison. A whole lot like a prison. Except the guard and the managers lie. How did it help them to lie on me and drag me to Tyler or Teller to pay a fifty dollar fine that I supposedly said the F word? Kim Duncan was her assistant and Mary Evans was the blonde African American manager. And they absolutely tortured me with requesting the same information over and over and again and again. This is how they force people not to ever work part time again and suffer more poverty, more depression, and more anxiety. I am just a strong cookie. And a sharp cookie. But, the worst of this place is cutting my roommate's social security disability right after his triple bypass due to four decades of juvenile diabetes over a freaking subsidy form they supposedly sent to Walmart and did not receive back. Now he has broken his right ankle into four pieces and is in the hospital again. With severe neuropathy. And has submitted the subsidy form. And yet, instead of getting a back pay, he constantly gets notices of pay us back 55,000 dollars in back pay. You would think if David has been paying into social security with ten numb toes and left ankle constantly swelling up to four times the right ankle standing at Walmart and now right ankle broken into four pieces, this hellish place we pay into could be running a little more decently. If you knew the truth of Americans lives, you would never say America did this or did that for power does not come from abuse. read more

Get there early in morning...at least 1/2 an hour before they open. Guard is a little grumpy but I'm sure he has to say the same things over & over all day, every day. Do not take drinks or food, be prepared to put your phone on silence and be quiet. (Not a great place to take little kids). I arrived an hour early (8am) on a Monday expecting to be first in line. To my surprise there were already 5 people ahead of me and as time inched closer to the 9 am opening there were atleast 30 people lined up outside the office! A security officer came out and gave us basic directions about how to check in and to put our phones on silent so as not to cause a disturbance while waiting. There are two check-in computers on either side of the entrance that print tickets based on arrival and what you're requesting. If you're requesting a replacement SS card or a name change you'll receive a number beginning with an A and you'll be prompted to line up on the right rather than sitting in the lobby. These tend to be faster to process and don't require as much paperwork. We were then sat in front of the individual cubicles and the windows were opened promptly at 9am. Asking for a replacement card got me out by 9:10 am, before many people had finished getting through the line to get their ticket. If you're getting a new card or really anything other than a replacement due to name change, lost/stolen etc be prepared for quite a wait. read more

The clerks at this office were polite and efficient, however the security personal on this specific day was atrocious. He was rude and demanded everyone waiting being silent and even lectured the people waiting on how this was a federal building and we were acting inappropriate with our socializing and lying on the floor (there were 2 people sitting on the ground due to no more seats being available in the waiting area). read more

I went to this Office location for 3 social security replacement cards. I arrived at 1:30pm on a Tuesday and there were 24 people waiting in the lobby; however, I was only 4th in line for a replacement card. The woman at the desk was very helpful and ordered my cards in less than 20 minutes. I was in and out in 40 minutes. read more

Went at 11am on a Thursday to change my name after marriage. The parking lot was so full it was overflowing to the surrounding streets. Signed in at the kiosk with my application in hand and thankfully was able to find a seat in the very crowded waiting room. I had to wait 2 hours until my number was called. The facility, though too small, is nice. The security guard on staff went out of his way to help anyone who needed it, answering questions and giving tips to all of us, (such as Tuesdays and Fridays are the best days to come). They called numbers on a loudspeaker and showed which numbers were being served on two overheard TVs. I think I made a mistake by showing up close to lunch time, since between 12pm and 1pm the pace definitely slowed and only 2 windows seemed to be open. Once it was finally my turn to go up to the window, all I had to do was hand over the application and my marriage certificate (no birth certificate, SS card, or ID was necessary) and after about 2 minutes I was told the process was complete and I would receive the new SS card in the mail in about a week. read more
