I was there because I received a letter from SSA acknowledging that I chose to withdraw Medicare because I returned to work part time. I was instructed to fill out form 1763 to stop these payments from my check. Kayla said I did not read the letter correctly so good luck getting reimbursed. Outrageous I did speak to an agent from the Denton office who was excellent in explaining what was told to me previously. Had she read that letter which she told me I didn't know what I talking about and I should learn to read better. It explained that by that letter of acknowledgment, it was protected. Went by this location earlier this week to get a new social security card since I was changing my last name back to my maiden name. I made an appointment on their website a few weeks in advance. I would highly recommend doing this so you're not stuck waiting any longer than you need to. We showed up about 20 min before the appointment and checked in using the link they either email or text you with. In total from walking in to walking out it probably took about 20 minutes. We were called up to window #5 and the gentlemen who helped me was great. He was very quick with my request but not in a rush kind of way. He was super nice while fulfilling my request. TIP: There are like 20 windows here. You do not necessarily need to come here 20-30 minutes prior to opening! The lines moved very quick here and the woman to assisted me was friendly! Got a letter in mail confirming my "in office" appointment and to bring the letter with me to my appointment. Once I signed in they never called my number so I checked with them and they were confused as to why i was there so I explained and showed the letter. Long story short....they said I didn't have an appointment and appointments can only be "over the phone" they don't make in office appointments anymore. Why in the heck did they make me an in office appointment and send me a confirmation stating so? Not only did I have to reschedule but I got bumped to the end of the list for a phone appointment in 3 months. The Social Security Office located at 3250 Craig Dr in McKinney, Texas is the most racist office I have ever been to. You are judged by the clothes you wear and if you have any kind if jewelry on.... Well beware you are now a millionaire! Most of my jewelry was from Temu and my most expensive ring was $1.98 but the lady behind the window that helped me made a comment of how well I was dressed. She must of thought my rings were real!! She also mentioned my purse because her boyfriend had just given her the same bag. When I told her the purse was also from Temu she then really became snotty. So I told her that the purse cost around $15.00 then I thought well now she is really mad! And she was but I was too because why was she judging me on how I was dressed. Why aren't we discussing my Social Security issues?? So since then, I have gotten 3 letters each with a lower rate than the month before. When I called today, I guess my name and SS # and my phone number is on alert when I call their office. I got hung up on twice today. On one of the calls i was told I gave my wrong SS number. I gave it again and then hung up on. I asked a man yesterday when I called the McKinney office for 5 forms to be mailed out to me. I have his name as Mr J______, and going to give him the benefit of a doubt that I should receive those forms by next Tuesday in the mail. That will allow about 7 days. I think there is a 50/50 chance I will get all the forms I asked for. I am 70 years old and do not do computers, live alone and only have my cell phone. Otherwise I would print them out. So in closing, this McKinney, Tx SOCIAL SECURITY Office has the worst Customer Service and so discriminatory to me as a caucasian that I have ever been treated by. I would not recommend going to this location EVER. They are rude and take their jobs like they are better than everyone else! They treated me like I didn't deserve to collect any Social Security funds period. That is how I felt. Very slow and overcrowded! My mother and I went to this location to update our address last Thursday, and then they took a portion of my social security check away from me the next day. That's not right! That's not how you treat someone! Look at the cost of living! Everything is so expensive nowadays, and I need my check in full to help pay rent. I filled out a form to get my money back, and one of the employees said that it would take 30 days to be processed. This is the worst experience of my life. I took a ticket and sat down. The agent called and I told him I was very sick. I explained to him reason of my visit. I gave him the papers and told him kindly get them checked that they are complete. He said they are complete. I told him you have not even looked at them. I requested him three times and he did not take my request . His comment 'will you tell social security what to do? ' i took another ticket and sat down. He saw and pulled me from where I was sitting. A clerk came and I gave him the documents. Without even looking he said they are okay. I kept quiet. At this point, this window agent stared at me. I asked him 'Sir what is your name' he snatched the ticket from my hand and asks me to get out. I told the officer of what had happened. Before that I had passed out in the office sitting I sat outside and called the social security office and told the person what happened. She said yin come back in and I will tell him not to snatch any tickets or vise you issues. I came him and manager assured me that they had reviewed all and they don't need anything. All was complete I came back from hospital and within a week I get a letter asking more information? Is this how you work Sir? I had kept my other tickets I will go to this office today and find out now what is missing again? Update : I went to social security office. The same black man saw me and he started taking to some people inside. I took a ticket and sat down. Before I sat down. I told the security about what had happed last time. He advised me if he calls you just say you want to talk to a manager and if he does not he will call the manager for me Thanks haven , luckily another agent called me who I know from almost 14 months ago. She was very helpful This gentleman witting next came twice and interrupted. I asked her what is he saying? She said nothing. He then again interfered I asked again what is going on 'she said he is asking her to take my documents' I asked her do you report to him? She said no and said don't focus on him What an annoying man? I will now file a complain with the manager or regional director on this person. This is my third time calling....the first time, I was told it takes time. Waited another month. Second time, I got transferred the second time and left voicemail and never heard back. Third call....it seemed like it was going to transfer to a person, but the phone rang and rang....I let it ring for 15 minutes and no one ever picked up! I'm beyond frustrated. When you call, you wait at least 30 minutes. So it has now been 3 months and I still don't have a resolution. This is what you get when the government is in charge of something. The overall atmosphere is one which creates a dehumanizing effect. Immediately upon entry there's a security guard lurking. He quickly made it clear that he is running the place. I'm sure his directive comes straight from the top. Create an atmosphere of fear at a base level. No loud talking (whispering was acceptable), no phone noises - both of these offenses would result in him scolding the entire population like we were children. Even standing in the wrong place resulted in a scolding. After waiting 1.5 hours the clerk assigned to me was unprofessional and hostile. I've never experienced such lack of common courtesy and decency. After demanding that I speak to a manager and requesting the clerk's name (would not answer), she just hissed - go sit down (in the waiting room). After waiting another 30 minutes, I was asked to go to the window next to the offending clerk who was assigned the first time. The supervisor on duty listened to my feedback and said she would share it with the clerk's direct supervisor. She did try to cut me off as I shared all the details of the offensive clerk, but I pressed forward. This behavior was unacceptable and I would not be silenced. The gentleman who assisted me with the second part of my appointment was courteous and professional. It is so unfortunate how one bad apple can spoil the bunch. Kindness and common courtesy go a long way. And this even applies to government workplaces/entities too. Very quick and speedy service the few times I've had to come here, I can't complain there. Only thing is some of the staff will not let you speak without over talking you. I simply wanted to ask a question and the lady helping me just talked over and down to me. I get they deal with all sorts of people all day long, but when someone is just trying to politely ask a question, it would be nice if you just let them ask it, rather than speak over them. Ugh. This place is the reason why people hate government. There is no sense of urgency in any of the employee's actions whatsoever. I was forced to go to the SSA to legally change my married name. The check in process is pretty easy with the kiosk that lets you select the reason you're there. But it all goes downhill from there. It's literally all a total crap-shoot from here on out. You have no idea what your wait time will be. The ticket that prints out lets you know you may be called out of order depending on the reason for your visit. Even though there are over 20 windows available, only about 6 were open. I arrived around 10:30am and spoke to a woman who had been there since 8:45am. I figured I'd give it until noon and then leave if I wasn't getting anywhere. I had to stand for the first 45 minutes because there weren't enough seats for everyone there. The security guard was a total hard-ass and wouldn't let anyone drink anything inside (mind you it's a summer day in Texas and the inside temperature wasn't exactly comfortable) or speak (he kept shushing everyone like a 2nd grade teacher). Oh, you will also get scolded if your phone happens to ding or ring. But there is no form of entertainment to keep your mind busy while you wait- no TVs, no magazines, nothing. And also (shocker!) no free wifi available either. Use up your own data while we make you sit here for God knows how long {insert evil laugh}. Shortly before noon, I had my chance up at bat. I walked up to the window with all my prepared documents (marriage license, social security card, DL, etc.). The guy barely reviewed any of my documents and in a matter of 3 minutes, he handed me a receipt for a new social security card and told me they were going to MAIL it to me! That doesn't seem very secure but ok?! To recap, I spent 90 minutes of my life for a 3 minute transaction. Gotta love the US government. This is where your tax money goes, folks! read more

Unfortunately my dad passed away and so I had to take my mom to do the paperwork. The first day, we get there an hour early and were about 11th in line. Once inside the door, some folks went left and some went right to get our numbers. We went right. We chose poorly. Lol The ticket thingee didn't work, so by the time the security guard got it working, there were many in front of us. Such is life. :) It wasn't bad though for the wait, despite that. We were told we needed more paperwork. We left and I immediately ordered it from out of state and came back the next week. We were third in line and was in and out of there in about an hour. Best part: as usual, people do not listen. The security guard is no nonsense- as he should be. He probably puts up with a lot. He told everyone no noise from cells, no drinks and keep chit chat to a minimum so everyone could hear their number, and to make sure you listen and watch for your number. So this lady gets her number and then proceeds to go outside. Her number was called three times and then they moved on. She came in finally and then was upset she missed her turn. The security guard said "ma'am, they called your number 3 times". She gave her excuse. He said "ma'am, I've answered your question, I'm done with you". I guess it's mean of me, but I too get sick of people with their lack of respect and sense of entitlement. The rules were announced up front. read more

I walked in today, and there were about 25 people waiting in the lobby chairs. Not a problem normally, except there was only 1 open booth. Only one person waiting on people (see picture I snapped in the profile). I waited 10 minutes to see if the people waiting would at least get processed, and only one person was served in this time. I got up and left. Tip: When arriving, arrive early (before opening), and upon entering bend to the right to the automated check-in computer. read more

I was treated very poorly by the man answering the calls. I was calling to inform about my father tragic death and to get the right forms. I was asking questions on why he would have been mailed out a check versus direct deposit like had every month for years and I was told just fill out the form and they did not want to answer any questions. Very poor way to treat someone and very insensitive to talk to someone like this. His death was linked to not getting his check this month. He had no money and decided to drive to a place that hands out discarded produce an 1 hour away and had to get there really early due to not getting his check and having no money. I was just curious as to what happened, it will always make me wonder. He would not have had driven to that place and got in an accident on the way if he received his check like he normally did. :( I know it is no ones fault but it was just something I wondered about and I am aware in the end it does not matter, he is gone but I feel like it would not have been too much to answer why the deposit was not made like usual. It was not due to his death I did at least get that verified. I never in a million years thought first of all they are not trained to say "sorry for your loss" or condolences" I know they must speak with people dealing with a loss on a daily basis and why they do not have that in their script whether they mean it or not is just so sad. Then to be treated like absolute trash when asking a question because the rude man wants to get off the phone. This was the McKinney office and they do need some training and I see other posts claiming of the same rude and insensitive treatment. I was almost in tears and will always remember how i was treated on this call. My husband called back in to speak with a manager and the next person he got was even ruder, she started off confrontational because he asked if there was a manager available to speak with. She literally said, There is no manager available that wants to speak with you and no she will not transfer him to one and they had other things to do than to talk to him about how is wife was treated on a call. Please be prepared for them to be insensitive and even out right ugly and make you feel like total crap once you get off the phone with them. Understand it is not you, they are very ugly to people at this office. Just think about it, they have no management responsibility and she said their calls are not recorded, so they have free reign to treat you however they would like :( read more

The 3 star rating is based on the wait time and parking. The wait time is excessive and the parking is very limited in the SSA lot, so be prepared to park on the street. Someone wrote a review saying "Wednesday is a well kept secret since they are only open 1/2 day." I thought they meant it was a good day to go and was not crowded and we planned accordingly arriving at 9:05 only to find all SSA parking already taken and seating area completely filled. So much for it being a slow day!! However, there IS a secret to Wed. Arrive LATE - say 11:30 - 11:45. Those INSIDE the building at noon when they close WILL be serviced. Our wait time was over 2 hours 30 minutes. By 11:30 we were one of only a handful waiting. Had we arrived at 11:30 my guess is our wait time would have been under an hour. If you go with someone else, only one should go to the screening window (window 1) when your number is called. If you both go, you are giving up your seats and they will be PROMPTLY filled by those forced to stand. All the screener does is make certain your ticket is the correct category and you are told to go back and wait, but your seat will most likely have been filled! FIVE STARS to the agent who handled our need for service (window 8). She was EXCELLENT and did not make us feel rushed. Kudos to the security guard - he has a thankless job and handles it well. He is gruff but fair, and keeps order in a lobby which could easily descend into chaos without him. Silence your cell phone upon arrival and if you talk to someone in the lobby, talk like you are in church, not at a family dinner, and you will get along much better with him. read more
