I had never taken a pottery class and was so excited to learn the ropes. There are 10 wheels here, so our group of 10 was able to arrive a little early, drink wine and eat some snacks we brought before learning the ropes of ceramics. Victor was our instructor and he was amazing! He first did a demonstration on how to work with the clay and start to make your piece. Then he helped us to create our own pieces. We got to make 3 different things. One item is included in your class price and you can purchase the other 2 for just $8 each. It's a hands on experience but so awesome to learn a new skill and get to be able to take your creation home. I will definitely look into more classes as I truly enjoyed my experience with the class.

The day before my first class, I got a call saying it was canceled due to low enrollment. That's on them, not me. What made it worse? When they called to inform me of the cancellation, they told me the 4% credit card fee was non-refundable and that it was their policy. Except it's not. Their own written refund policy clearly states that if they cancel a class due to low enrollment, they will issue a full refund. They straight up lied to my face. It took my husband calling back and calling them out on it before they finally honored what was written in their own policy. $300 is not cheap, and a business that misrepresents its own refund policy to shortchange customers is not one I can trust or recommend. Really bummed, because I was looking forward to the class and genuinely wanted this to work out.

For the candle-making, it was a unique experience because everyone got to decorate their candle container, choose a scent AND color for their wax, and then decorate the actual wax too! There were an abundant amount of decor options as well. It was a really artistic and creative candle-making class compared to the general white candle/white container classes, and everyone got to take home a nice product the same day! I participated in the pottery class, and having done pottery classes before, this is truly the best one I've been to yet. Ruben was the most patient and flexible pottery instructor I've met. We had the opportunity to throw 3 pieces of clay, and everyone in our group was able to successfully make 3 full objects. This is mostly because our instructor was able to fix and guide us through most mistakes/issues (holes, breaks, lopsided walls, etc). After throwing the objects on the wheel, we were able to add handles/lids/accessories, add decoration with stamps, or carve/fix our pieces with more carving tools. This was also pretty unique for a pottery wheel class. After the pieces are finished, you can take them home as clay decor, fire them for $2, or glaze them during a separate glazing day for $10. Overall an extremely well run and well-taught art playhouse and we highly recommend it for groups/individuals! Hoping to return soon for their rug tufting class too!

After some beginning exercises, you get to pick whatever you want to paint. I have never seen anyone leave with a bad painting. I don't even know how Tom does what he does, but he manages to coax the best out of every student. I've been going for three years now. I had never taken painting lessons before. I'm always surprised by how good my paintings look. My classmates have all created really excellent work. Some of my fellow students are art teachers. Some are art students putting together portfolios. Most of us are just hobbyists. The classes are de-stressing and fun. They always go too fast, even though they are 3 hours. I highly recommend these classes for anyone who has ever wanted to paint. I can't speak for the other classes, but there other types of art taught like sculpture and fashion design. The work I've seen from those students is really terrific too. I'm no Monet, but I've included three photos of my work so you can see what to expect in the way of results. I had never done an oil painting in my life before joining the class. I had never had a painting lesson since 8th grade. If I can do it, you can do it.

She want to "help artists help themselves." According to their website "Oolite Arts seeks to be the bedrock of the visual arts in Miami. Formed over time, it is composed of residents, alumnae, curators and visitors, coming together to build a community around contemporary art - a fundamental part of our arts ecosystem." Today Oolite Arts provides artists with the free studio space, the chance to exhibit their work, and support. The building contains artists' studios, small exhibitions spaces, and the group's offices. You can take classes or attend events in the building. Oolite also operates out of a new location at 75 NW 72nd St where they will offer more than 200 art classes and launch a visual art program for teens. Oolite Arts recently sold one its two Lincoln Road buildings and there are plans to build and open a new building in Little River later in 2023. Little River is becoming an alternative location for artists priced out of nearby Wynwood. The new building will have two dozen studios for the group's residency program where artists can get free space for two years, an exhibition space, a theater for films and lectures or presentations, a studio, and offices. Any organization that supports and facilitates the arts is a worthwhile one to support. They help artists who might otherwise not be able to afford studio space to have a place to work and exhibit. It looks like they have some amazing plans in the works to help even more artists in the future. This is a fantastic organization. Stop by for inspiration and culture.

TLDR; DANGER ALERT…read more Let me start with I originally applied here to be a figure model on their website through an ad I found via Craigslist. I quickly applied through my phone during my lunch break and that was that. After I was contacted by someone (who was not even part of the studio) I went their website via my laptop and decided to do some research/scrounging to find out more about the studio. I quickly came to realize there is something very wrong with this "company." Many of the photos on the website are free stock photos and some are even stolen from other art studio websites (found via reverse image search.) I then uncovered that many of the paragraphs of text were ALSO copied from multiple other art programs/websites. Some blocks of text were slightly modified, others a complete copy and paste. The "representative" for the job application was very short, uninformative and sketchy. He sent a text, didn't introduce himself (I had to ask him his name further in our conversation to which he replied with Mike, nothing else.) When I asked about more info regarding the "studio" it was then that I found out he wasn't even affiliated with the "studio" and his job was only to "do interviews and take photographs." I asked my fiance to call the studio first to do some more investigating in case my number were to show up and they would become suspicious. No answer. I then decided later on I would try to call, no answer. Also, the voicemail was the default automated voice-mail accompanied with a very weird echo. Upon further research I also found that the address listed on the website (601 Brickell Key Dr., Miami, FL 33131) was also the same address on Googlemaps as a company called Park Jockey (https://www.parkjockey.com/miami) which has also received alarmingly bad reviews. There is no suite number listed on either the website for this "art studio" nor "parkjockey." My suggestion: STAY AWAY! EDIT: I've also now noticed the photo uploaded to this page says Brickell Key Arts with a different phone number than advertised on the www.brickellartstudio.com website. I then Googled Brickell Key Arts which only brought up a Facebook page. Upon looking at the Facebook page I noticed one of the photos uploaded had a different address once again, and the information portion of the Facebook page has ANOTHER address as well as website address. Upon visiting the www.Brickellkeyarts.com website it just shows under construction. I've uploaded the photos below showing a cropped section of the Facebook page and another photo found on their Facebook page. Soooo.... I think my point has been made. Sketchy as heck.
