Everything ran quite smoothly at the Heineken Burger Bash! I was lucky enough to be chosen by Yelp to receive two tickets! I picked them up from Blue at the Funky Buddha, the Sunday before the event. I was really thrilled to attend with my wife, Diane as my plus one. On the day of the Burger Bash, I dropped Diane off at the venue and found a great parking spot a few blocks away. I waited in line for a short period of time and then the fun began!! There were so many booths offering free scrumptious burgers, I didn't know where to start. So, I started with the booths with the shortest lines. Every burger I had was fantastic. My personal favorite was the Cuban Guys stand. Just superb with fries on the side. I had more burgers than anyone should eat. I didn't eat too many of the buns, so I wouldn't fill right up. The Burger Bash got crowded as the event went on, but it wasn't at all uncomfortable. Rachel Ray, the famous chef, spoke in front of the crowd about how it was her 19th Burger Bash. She was very enjoyable. Heineken had booths where they served various beers to wash down the burgers. Oddly, they didn't offer Heineken Light. Instead, they had Amstel Light which was delicious. All in all, I had a great time at the Burger Bash. Thank you so much, Yelp, for the tickets. It was a spectacular event.

Chip to vote for your favorite burger.

So many people that I know say that Burger Bash is the best event ever. They look forward to going every year. This event is one of the first to sell out. At $250 a ticket it had to be great. I was so excited when Clyde won two tickets from Yelp. I think there was over forty chefs cooking up their best burgers. Besides feeding the hungry crowd the chefs were in a contest to be awarded for the best burger. We got to vote for our favorite by putting a coin in a jar at our favorite chefs table. There was also a panel of judges who would help decide the winner. Chefs were already cooking when the gates opened. The aroma of hamburgers was everywhere. Several booths were set up outside, but most were inside a large white tent. There was booths set up on both sides of the tent. The middle was mostly set up with drinks. Heineken had a large presence. They were very busy. There was tables with cans of wine. Another large both had champagne. Tito Vodka had several stations serving delicious vodka cocktails. A few of the tables had long lines, but most were short. Clyde and I had a plan. We skipped the long lines and checked them again later. We shared the burgers and sides. Some of the burgers where served whole, others were smaller pieces. There was beef, pork, veggie, vegan, and more. Lots of hamburgers had a side, mostly potatoes. Rachael Ray was the celebrity host. About half way through the event she went onto the stage where she was introduced. I wanted to get a few pictures of her but there was so many people in front of the stage that it was impossible to get a good picture. The audience seemed to love her. She spoke for a few minutes. I was surprised she wasn't there longer. I don't know if she came back to the stage during the event. Tables and chairs were set up at various places. It was nice to take a break between burgers. Needless to say I ate too much. Everything was so good.

This was my 2nd time attending Burger Bash and it just keeps getting better. Thanks to Yelp Miami and Ft Lauderdale, I was lucky enough to win a pair of general admission tickets worth $250 each. Sweet! We arrived at 7pm and there was already a line. They let in the "Preview" ticket holders first then 30 minutes later it was our turn. It rained a little bit while we were waiting but that didn't discourage us because we starved ourselves the whole day just to devour as much burgers as we can :) The venue was very organized and a vendor map was available on the main SOBEWFF website. We just basically started counterclockwise and hit up the vendors with the most enticing burgers. And trust, there were plenty! We got to try 109 Burger Joint, Sakaya Kitchen, Little Donkey, Fooqs, Cool Smoke BBQ and Le Chick just to name a few. We got so full so quick that we didn't even get to try to the vendors on the right side. But we were soldiers so we made sure to stop by at the famous Morimoto to try his signature Asian inspired burger. My God! That sauce and the juicy beef were on point! Titos was also there providing some Moscow mules and lemonade cocktails and of course, Heineken was just flowing everywhere. The entertainment was great as well especially when Neil Patrick Harris and his hubby came out to greet the audience. We also liked the cover band that was playing. They sang some classic rock, pop, and Latin music too. The DJ stage near the entrance was also good. The DJ kept the energy level high and he got the crowd dancing. Burger Bash was such a fun and filling event as expected. No matter how many days we fasted before the event, we still ended up in a food coma when we left...lol :) The only thing I didn't like was some people were just deliberately cutting in line and they pretended they didn't know. Really? Otherwise, this event is a must during SOBEWFF.

This was my first time to Burger Bash and I had high expectations, and they were absolutely met! I had always heard great things from friends from the past years. Literally it's burgers on burgers on burgers and they are bomb burgers. There is also Heineken everywhere and wine stands as well. Burgers, beer and wine, amazing! I loved Papi Steak's burger, the bun was amazing, it was a pretzel type bun. Pig Beach, I am pumped they are coming to West Palm Beach, just a classic delicious burger. Even Red Robin had a fancy delicious burger. Some burgers would come with sides and then there was some dessert stands. Milkshakes, and I was able to try out this new dessert type ice cream from Salt & Straw! Can't wait to check out their storefront here in Miami. $250 a pop for a ticket is pricey, but hey, that's the life and to be honest it's all about the experience. They have an entertainment stage, a DJ, photo booths, sitting areas, you name it. You get a chip in the beginning as well and you get to drop it at your favorite spot and then they announce the winner. You may be lucky and run into Rev Run or Rachael Ray, you never know! Heineken Burger Bash, I'll be back next year!

The chef lineup looked incredible, and after having an amazing experience at Burger Bash (with early admission), we were genuinely excited. Unfortunately, this event was the complete opposite. Not only was it more expensive, but it was extremely overcrowded. It was shoulder-to-shoulder the entire time, making it difficult to move, enjoy the atmosphere, or even hear anyone speak. The lines were unbelievably long, and it was nearly impossible to tell where they began or ended -- only to finally reach the front and receive a very small bite of food. There also needs to be serious consideration around sound and entertainment. The event had both a DJ and a live band, and it was way too loud -- you could barely have a conversation. The band, unfortunately, wasn't great and felt overpowering and obnoxious at times. The DJ was much better and played far better music; the overall vibe would have been much more enjoyable sticking with just that. There really needs to be a ticket capacity limit to ensure guest satisfaction. Overselling the event completely took away from what could have been an incredible experience. The organization and overall flow just weren't there. After 45 minutes of frustration and barely tasting anything, we decided to leave and went to Pizza Bar around the corner just to actually get something to eat. The only highlight of the night was spotting Rev Run walking in -- which ended up being the most memorable part of the experience. Burger Bash truly felt like the main event in comparison. We won't be returning to this one. Burger Bash from now on.

I feel like some of the food they had at this event was not their best. The standouts for me were the shrimp ceviche from Suviche and salmon and rice from Temple Street Eatery. These were excellent. Rusty Pelican won the big award. Their dish was tasty. It was ribeye and shrimp I believe. (No sign describing the dish on table) I wanted to try the lobster salad from Catch and Cut but they were about to go on stage for the competition when I went by twice. Other restaurants were just ok. I enjoyed the Hendrick's gin drinks. Blacklane had a nice lounge with champagne. All in all, this event is nice because it is food, drinks and music on the beach at night. It was a nice, breezy evening, so that made it even nicer. But if I break it down on most of the food food and even most of the drinks, it is just ok. I expected real high quality seafood and it just didn't cut it for me. Seafood Slam was during the day and it got hot! This event was pretty similar in terms of quality of food and drinks. Nothing bad but nothing to write home about. I think I preferred the Chef Showdown compared to the Seafood Slam.

The vendors and music stages are depicted on their website making it very easy to know where things are and at what time artists are set to perform. Great vibes, great food, great music, plenty of street fair food and shops to keep you entertained. The artists and vendors who work the booths are always nice and in a great mood. The Carnaval is located in Miracle mile, close to several street parking and parking garages, like we used. I particularly love the location of this festival because its on a fabulous street filled with restaurants on each side of the street. Allowing for more options if you choose you not to eat street food. There are plenty of options like arepas, fresh squeezed juices, pinchos, sandwiches, turkey legs, funnel cakes, Gilbert's bakery, pizza, gelato, and more. We decided to eat lunch at Morton's to break up the day a little from walking, then we continued our day throughout the festival. I did a little shopping at Essence Boutique, which I love to come to when I'm in this area of Coral Gables. I also bought some dips and other trinkets from the festival. I look forward to this festival every year and am so glad I was able to make it this weekend.

I attended the very first one of these parades a decade ago, and have been to I believe every one since! This year was bigger and better than ever! The parade itself was longer, lasting about 1 1/2 hours, they actually paced the parade along very well this year, avoiding the up to 5 minute gaps a few times per parade that have plagued it in years' past, and the expo and performance stages on the beach were better than I remember them being as well. The crowds have definitely grown, from an estimated 50,000 attendees when this Pride festival was just getting started, to an estimated 135,000 this year. The 2018 grand marshal was Olympic freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy. He made headlines a few months ago by sharing a kiss with his partner on worldwide TV following one of his Olympic runs..And his family/friends could usually be spotted at the bottom of the mountain waving rainbow flags and cheering him on. He was lots of fun, made a speech at the main stage after the parade, took a selfie with the crowd and body surfed through the crowd of people, all while shooting video for social media. While this event is definitely 5 star worthy and I'm sure it's a monumental task to execute with lots of people and an incredible amount of organization and planning to bring it all together, I'd have 3 suggestions on improvements: 1) Consider moving it back to Saturday. The first parade I attended was on a Saturday afternoon and it was great! People could stick around all day, go to Twist and Palace until late that night and take Sunday to recover. At some point, the parade was moved to Sunday; from what I understand it was done to attract more families to attend. In my experience, it actually cuts back on the fun! People who are out late on Saturday night don't feel like getting up and being in place along Ocean Drive in the hot sun at high noon for a parade. Likewise, people tend to curtail their activities on Sunday since many need to be at work on Monday AM. 2) Make the "expo area" on the beach larger and more spread out to accommodate the crowds. Seriously, this year, especially after the parade first ended, it was madness for the first hour to simply try and make your way from the stage at one far end to the other. 3) Set up both stages exactly the same. The main stage had a large sun shade over the crowd, large, inflated decorations above the audience's heads, beach balls being bounced throughout the crowd, and pretty spectacular lighting and video shows with other effects going well into the night. Meanwhile at the other stage where mostly Latin bars/clubs were represented and Latin groups performing, there was no sun shade, just a few lights, no video wall with graphics, no smoke system, etc. It kind of felt like one stage was over the top and the planners of this event went all out for it, while the other stage where the Latin crowd was relegated to was treated like the low budget step child. That said, the attendees at both were equally energetic and the place was still full when they finally shut down that night.
