Sobar is absolutely nothing compared to what it's hyped up to be. Their event nights, so:crazy and chaos, while advertising very cheap drinks, are merely a way to make up for the lack of a proper club atmosphere. This is if you even get in without the bouncers manhandling you for trying to use a 'free entry' card that the exact same bouncer gave you several nights before. I've never seen worse behaviour from a bouncer, nor one that would push their hand into my friend's face to get them to stop talking, until now.
Their bar staff isn't too much better either, even with only half a dozen people standing at the bar with two bartenders you could be waiting forever for a drink.
The seating area inside is cooped up in this little corner near the bar with only a couple of sofas, and the dance floor is no bigger than an average kitchen. If you go past the dance floor to the outside, however, there's a really nice garden area with lots of seating and lit up decking, which is certainly nice, but if I just wanted to drink outside somewhere nice, I might as well just sit in a pleasant beer garden in one of the surrounding pubs.
Even after several visits to this 'club' on many different nights, and a couple of other visits where I've waited in line for an hour only to be told it was gonna close early in another hour, I'd compare the atmosphere to a slightly more excited pub or a very chilled bar with the feeble, laughable attempt at being a club. read more
