Incredibly delicious Japanese restaurant specializing in soba noodles. The menu is huge yet still focused, with many small plate options and of course soba. Here's what I tried: - Spicy marinated jellyfish (4.90 Euro) At first glance, this didn't look like much - almost like a small portion of sauerkraut. HOWEVER! The flavors, textures and overall eating experience were excellent. The jellyfish is kind of like squid in texture but firmer and dense. The juices/flavors were completely addicting, a mix of sour/sweet/spice. It's a refreshing and interesting way to start your meal. - Ontama Tororo - Cold soba noodles with poached egg and sticky Japanese potato (11.50 Euro) A truly unique cold and filling dish. The waitress brought out a big plate of noodles, a small bowl of runny egg, potato, wasabi, seaweed & spices, and a separate broth. She explained how to mix the sauces and how to dip the soba. The result is an intense flavor experience, perfect for a warm night! It tasted almost like deconstructed sushi in all the best ways. The coolest part was at the end, when the waitress brought out more soba broth and topped up the egg mixture. She said it's traditional to dilute with broth and drink it like soup. It was a totally delicious surprise to end the meal, and a smart way to not waste any drop of that mix. - Niko - Warm soba soup with marinated beef (15.50 Euro) This hot soba dish works well as a contrast to a cold soba choice. The marinated beef is paper thin and continues cooking in the light, smokey & slightly sweet broth. It's hard to describe the broth with a word other than YUM. You can really taste that it's been marinating forever, and the chewy soba are the perfect vessels to absorb all that brothy goodness. - Buckwheat cold tea Earthy, slightly roasted/nutty-tasting tea that complements soba! I could have drank a few more glasses of this. Besides the amazing food, the service was on point. Our waitress was friendly, always smiling and courteous. The ambiance fits with the food and we were the only non-Japanese people there on a busy night. You can see a chef making soba noodles by hand near the back of the restaurant. If you're looking for a delicious Japanese restaurant in Dusseldorf that's not sushi or ramen, absolutely try this place!

Soba-san is a Soba restaurant. Soba (buckwheat pasta) is a traditional Japanese dish especially during summer (when they are eaten cold) and are very healthy. A second option is to eat them hot (e.g. in a soup, a bit like ramen). Both option are offered and from a surprising good quality with a weight choice of topping (sauce where you put the pasta in or side dish like deep-fried vegetable / fish). The choice of drinks (Japanese alcohol and teas) is also quite nice). To make it short: If you want to try good soba, this is a good place to start.

Authentic japanese food, definitely worth a visit! Though the taste is not westernized, nothing "sweet and sour".

The best Japanese restaurant in the town. I always feel being back in Japan, when I have a lunch or a dinner at SOBA-AN.

We were passing through Düsseldorf for half a day and saw they're known for their Japanese food, so we decided to check out Takumi! They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. AJITAMA TONKOTSU RAMEN: I'm a tonkotsu person and almost always order this over other types of ramen. Not sure if I was just so severely deprived of Asian food, but I felt Takumi's tonkotsu ramen ranked pretty high on my list! And coming from SoCal as well as having lived down the street from both major Japanese food hubs in Los Angeles, that's saying a lot! Good amount of pork, the noodles were cooked to the perfect texture, and the broth was rich without being overly salty. I don't usually enjoy other types of ramen so I can't speak for those items from their menu. But I slurped my entire bowl of tonkotsu ramen dry! KARAAGE: Large pieces with crispy exterior and super juicy interiors! I wasn't expecting much but in the end I was super happy we ordered this. Overall, amazing tonkotsu ramen located in Düsseldorf's Little Tokyo.

FOOD & DRINKS Okonomiyaki in Düsseldorf is not very common…read more That is why I wanted to see how good it actually is. If I am not mistaken, what they serve here is the Osaka style okonomiyaki where everything is mixed in the batter and served as a thick pancake. I much prefer the Hiroshima style where it is more of a thin pancake and the ingredients sit on top of that and also often comes with fried noodles. It gives more layers of texture and is less heavy on the stomach. But that is just my personal preference. Osaka style oknomiyaki can be pretty filling and I did the mistake in ordering it with the fried chicken. Batter on batter and on top of that with Japanese potato salad. While the size of the pancake is pretty small, it can fill you up in no time. And if not then just add some protein and cheese on top. You won't go home hungry. The execution of the okonomiyaki is fine. I am just not a fan of this style because the pancake can be so dense. That is just me though. Other than that I would have preferred to do it myself. I also find it more fun that way but having an experienced chef to do it for you is by no means a bad thing for the majority of customers. Furthermore I'm happy to see that they also offer vegetarian items. SERVICE I think the service was alright. It felt very formal which is not my preferred style of service but that doesn't make it bad. You will be in good hands. ATMOSPHERE Here comes what I think is the big seller of this restaurant besides of the okonomiyaki. The decoration is just phenomenal but also very untypical for most oknomiyaki restaurants you find throughout Japan which are more simplistic. While most of the other Japanese style restaurants in the area definitely try to adopt and make a more modern approach to interior design, this place takes a slightly different direction. This place is packed with decorations about Japan. From the traditional big lamps to the japanese sake containers on the wall to the cute details all around. This place wants to make you feel as if you were in Japan not just by the food but also with their sense of decoration. RATING This place can be packed if you come here with a group of more than two and want to sit at a table. I highly recommend to reserve a table to make sure you don't have to wait too long. Come here if you miss Japan or if you want to immerse yourself into Japanese culture. This restaurant is worth trying out! NOTE One review mentioned that you can't get oknomiyaki for dinner. That is not true. You can get it every day for dinner. That is what they are known for. Just make sure to check when the kitchen closes. You can't get them too late into the evening.
