Although this was a bit of a drive for us, it was very much well worth it. We had such an amazing time. Signs are showing you where to enter and a big parking lot. Get there a few minutes early to check in and use the bathroom if needed. After checking in we took some photos and prepared ourselves for what we had signed up to do. We signed up for the 2hr tour (10-mile trek). Make sure you come prepared, luckily for us, it wasn't too hot and the sun wasn't beaming because let me tell you, there is no shade for relief. We came with snacks and water for our adventure. We started connected and at a certain point, they disconnected us all and told us to go. You have the option of peddling or using the pedal for electric use. It's such beautiful scenery, everything we passed. This is a workout and yes we used the pedal a few times. Be careful, this is a workout but so worth it.

Matt and his crew were amazing! They were very attentive. We would highly recommend booking. A great experience!

The staff was very helpful in explaining the operation of the rail bikes. The trail has a slight grade down, so the return trip has a slight grade up. My wife and I were able to peddle both ways, but it was good to know the electric drive was available if needed.

It was fantastic. We peddled hard but glad to have the electric option if needed. Guys on the trip were super friendly.

A must do! This was so much fun - Looking forward to more pedal railing in the future! The crew was awesome too!

Pennsylvania Railroad was such a fun experience, we were able to see beautiful views that we wouldn't be able to see from afar definitely something you must try. We even spotted a Americas bald Eagle and its nest along side wildlife. The bikes also has a motorizado option for those who do not want to pedal.

Such a pleasant experience and a fun outing for me and my wife while on vacation. something different to do in a great new perspective on a scenic tour. Rail bikes are easy too operate. Electric motors were super fun and helpful when we decided we wanted to be lazy and not pedal. Business operators and guides were exceedingly friendly helpful, and a joy for the group. The trip was about 5 miles and each direction, I personally would have liked it to have been a farther distance, but this activity and distance was a great value, and the price for the trip was well worth it.

We had a great time. There was some great scenic views. The employees are very nice and Matt, the manager, was aces.

My husband and I did this tour yesterday at noon and we had a great time! It was about ten miles roundtrip. You have the option to pedal or use the electric pedal. The three employees on our trip were very helpful and informative. We made stops along the way to learn about the bald eagles and the hydroelectric power plant. Definitely add this to your itinerary if you're in the area!

from booking to check-in to riding, excellent service! very friendly and knowledgeable staff. stunning views! guides were really helpful pointing out interesting objects along the way.

The last few years has seen an explosion in the tourist niche of railbiking. Most tourist railroads partner up with one of the two larger operators in Revolution Rail (the yellow company) and Rail Explorers (the red company) but a few do it in house or it's handled by a local startup. The set up here is you go to the Soarin' Eagle website (soarineagle.com), find a date & time and book it. They usually run from Memorial Day to Halloween, Thursday - Monday. The departure site is easy enough to find as there isn't much in downtown Hawley and once you get away from the Lake Wallenpaupack area, things are very lowkey and rural. Quick and easy check in process via iPad and there is plenty of onsite parking. The route takes you a few miles past some scrap train cars and then eventually you go along the Lackawaxen River. A few brief observations: The scenery especially once you get to the part of the ride that borders the Lackawaxen River is amazing. Truly hard to beat. If you have done railbiking with one of the two aforementioned companies you know that they are big on organization. Here, not so much. While the other companies give you plenty of up front coaching and reminders about spacing and distance between you and the bike in front of you, here, none of that exists and that does on some level distract from the experience as there are a lot of people on a sold out tour and the employees in the lead bike kept a glacial pace which had everyone riding everyone's ass. No Bueno. At the turnaround point (basically a small clearing along the river) the bikes are spun around and in no time you're heading the other way. As Erin C correctly said, better spacing would make things much better as would some form of interpretation about the area, rail line (which is active), river, etc. would also give things some depth. Note too that the other two big companies have pedal assist bikes that make it simple for one person to do everything if the other three choose to be big loads. No pedal assist here and the ride back is mostly uphill so if the people you're with are loafing it, you'll be quoting the prophet Ice Cube with: "You can do it put your back into it". If we had never railbiked anywhere else I'm sure my rating would be higher but I have and I know that while Soarin' Eagle is good, it could be done better which would make the experience a knockout when combined with the stunning scenery.

I've purchased two higher-end bicycles from TC and Action Bikes this year, and both bikes are serving me well. First bike, Surly Ice Cream Truck -- I was looking for the perfect snow bike to make it through a tough winter. Not only did they have the perfect Surly snow bike in the shop, I got real savings on that bike. Instead of whining my way through winter and letting my health go more than it had, Action Bikes helped me reverse some cardiovascular issues by enabling me to get back on the trail in the best way and slowly rebuild my cardio health. I've never had so much fun on a bike. TC's staff did everything they could to accommodate my needs for winter riding. Second bike, Kona Rove LTD -- If one bike isn't enough, you should buy two. As winter came to a close, which took some time this year, I was thinking how I could extend my adventures on the rail trail by investing in a gravel bike. I reached out to TC and his crew, and within 20 minutes TC was able to find me a fantastic deal, real savings again, on probably the best bike I've ridden yet. I had a specific need for a certain bike to do what I needed do for long-distance riding on the rail trail. By the end of a fairly short phone call, TC found the best bike I could have hoped for, generously discounted. I could not have found a bike that was a better fit than the Kona Rove LTD, nor could I have imagined finding that bike at the price TC found it -- all of that accomplished in a 25-minute phone call. TC's staff, everyone, has been friendly and knowledgeable. Each of them in their own way took their time to involve themselves personally in my cycling fantasies, and now I am living those fantasies on the trail, deep in the mountains, enjoying my bliss. In the past 11 years, I've purchased four (4) bikes from Action Bikes. I know TC and his staff to be my best cycling contact in NEPA. This bike shop has earned its reputation in the area. If you are interested in advancing your cycling experience, I would suggest Action Bikes to anyone at any cycling level looking for a new bike. Thank you, guys, for helping me get back to good health. Aron.

Which was great because the lot was very full. There are two walk up windows to check in. I walked up to the window and had to wait literally 1 min; the line was short and quick. The girl found my reservation went over paper work that needed to be filled out, was very friendly and helpful. I will say the other girl was not particularly friendly. They're talking to you threw a window and I am partially deaf, when I asked the girl to repeat the last thing she said she was so annoyed she spoke in short sentence like I was dumb. And just before she helped me there was another group of girls that seemed to be very annoyed with her because she refused to help them. Like I said there were two lines and they were in her line but she wanted to help the gentlemen infront of me in the other line. Idk why, he wasn't even paying attention and only needed to drop his car keys off. Whatever. We grabbed our life vests, got our overview of the river and quickly hopped on a very nice, 12 pax van. It was about a 10 min ride to the drop off area which wasn't bad. I really liked that the staff grabs your kayak and paddle and brings it to the water. All you have to do is sit down and paddle away. There is another company that shared the drop off area so just be aware that you don't get the wrong kayak lol The DR is beautiful. The water is so nice and clean. There are lots of places to stop off at to eat lunch or take a swim. There were a lot of people camping along the banks. So be mindful of that when pulling off to a beach. When we go to our pick up location it was just as smooth as our drop off spot. You just paddle to the beach and a staff grabs your kayak and pulls you in. You take your things and they take the kayak and paddle. At the top of the stairs you just walk to the right and the van is waiting to take you back. Overall, wonderful company to book a kayak or raft from to enjoy the beautiful river. In highly recommend and will rebook with them. I recommend wearing a hat and water shoes and bringing a cooler for drinks and snacks.

(This was a few months ago so the details could be a bit iffy.)…read more This was a very impromptu trip and everything at Edge of the Woods makes doing that easy. Head to the website, book the date & time you want and you're done. www.watergapadventure.com/river-trips A few things worth noting: They offer multiple trip lengths. The standard 4-, 6- and 10-mile trip (Smithfield to Portland) are all booked generically and then when you get there you tell them what you want to do. All pricing is the same which believe me compared to others companies, that's very different - in a good way. They do offer two other longer trips but those require calls to the main office I assume to assess river conditions; your own competency and shuttle availability. The main office in Delaware Water Gap is very easy to find and there was plenty of parking on a quiet post-Labor Day Monday. You check in, you're handed a laminated map, life jacket and given a brief route explanation and then you're off in the van. One problem arose and it was kind of a PIA but it was worked around. Most companies have different types/sizes/models of kayaks and quite often, will ask you what you prefer. Not here. When we left the office, the guy driving didn't say a word to me until we get to Smithfield Beach to unload. He had a few kayaks pre-loaded in the carrier but definitely did not look at them before we left. One of them had a broken foot pedal that he said couldn't be used, another was very much designed for a smaller individual (i.e. if you're taller and/or taller & larger it ain't happening safely) which only left two tandem models. Using a tandem as a single individual is not the end of the world but especially when the seats are still left in the two person configuration (i.e. one front and one back versus the rear one being placed more towards the middle), it's a PIA to maneuver the craft and you are paddling harder to get the job done compared to a single. The scenery along the route was decent. You could see a bit of the Shawnee Resort and Golf Course, an old stone bridge abutment in the middle of the river, under and along 80 and then when you get into the Water Gap itself with the high cliff sides. Very picturesque. Once you go under the old train viaduct in Portland, you give the office a call for the shuttle to meet you at the out point which is at the Portland Pedestrian Bridge. The whole experience was about four hours door to door to cover the ten miles on the water plus the shuttle to & from the pick up and drop off points. Lots of nice scenery, due to the low water level there wasn't much in the way of current except for the area around viaduqt in Portland and even that wasn't bad. I'm not a big fan of the equipment here but I wouldn't let that deter me from coming back in the future for one of their northern longer trips.

Only came here because didn't want to drive to Allentown where I bought it, for its first tune-up. Went here twice. Once for a bike tube...which I did not realize that they charged me EXTRA, for using a credit card, until I was reviewing my bills at the end of the month. (ALWAYS check your receipts before you leave here!) The next time was to get a tune up. They charged $65 for tune-up (which is close to norms. But they were supposed to fix back disc brake rubbing. They ended up saying they had to bleed the brakes, and ended up bleeding ME for another $20. After all said and done, the brakes rubbed EVEN WORSE on BOTH the front AND back, and I had to fix myself by watching a 3-minute you tube video. THREE minutes!!....maybe I SHOULD charge people $20 bucks. Then there was a shift indicator bar missing from inside the left shifter, which they say they didn't touch. The bike is a year old and never been serviced until they touched it. They claim it was like that. The owner, Dick, or Rich...same difference because he was as rude as one; he acted all innocent and baffled and PRETENDED to help me by even pretending to order a new part which I knew he was faking doing. He has two guys there, Ed and Lee, who I believe worked at a different bike place in the area and if they same 2 guys (because what are odds of having the same names as 2 guys from another bike place?), well, they sucked too. He NEVER HONORED his deal to get a new part and told me to deal with it. He said its my word vs his. So he over-charged me the first time, and then screwed me over the next time and de-valued my yr-old bike by losing parts on it and not even fixing it correctly. I cannot say enough bad things about this guy and his workers. If you wrote a good review, your either a friend of his or else gullible and take what he says as gospel.
