Johnsons Dry Cleaners are a company owned by Timpson, who also has a location across the way from…read morethis store at Tesco, Johnstons mainly specialise in the dry cleaning side of the business. I've passed this store many times over the past few years, mainly due to its' central location, where most people will see it as they turn on their way to Rochdale from Middleton. From the main road, this store actually looks closed as the shutters always seem to be down, I'm going, to be honest, I always thought this was an abandoned building, however it is not and they seem to use the back entrance, the entrance is on the side facing the health centre and Tesco. Inside, it is pretty typical of a dry cleaners, it has a small area for customers to walk in, the rest is taken by the dry-cleaning business. In terms of being a MyHermes store, it is quite convenient and is one of the more convenient areas in the Sudden area of Rochdale. The woman who served me seemed quite friendly, she sorted my parcel out quite quickly, sadly the man had already been to collect the parcels prior to my arrival, which she had already informed me. I'm struggling with the rating, this is a nice place, decent dry-cleaners in the more convenient location than others being so close to Tesco, I also like the MyHermes feature, the service was okay but the overall feel that this place is an abandoned building as you pass it on the main road really does spoil it for me, also they seem to do all the dry cleaning themselves, rather than self-service which also would be nice to have the option, so i feel this place deserves a 3 star rating mainly for convenience through location with parking, friendly staff and the MyHermes parcel shop feature.

The proprietor was a very friendly guy, and the one thing you could always guarantee was that the turn-around on your dry-cleaning would be pretty quick. They never once let me down either -- if they said a job would be ready at 5pm on Tuesday (or whatever), it was ready at 5pm on Tuesday! The prices were seemed slightly on the high side but then dry cleaning always is, I suppose. Certainly the prices weren't outrageous. The one downside was that there was no parking nearby -- I was often forced to park half-way up Captains Clough Road and carry the cleaning to the shop, which could be awkward. But all in all, an excellent facility for the local community.

However, after getting my last batch back I noticed the clothes were leaving my skin itchy and irritated. I'm not sure whether they switched some of the cleaning products they use, whether I am developing some sort of allergy to what they have been using, or - in their defense- whether I am allergic to something else and simply attributing it to my recently returned clothes. I truly loved these cleaners so am definitely going to go back and hope its just some fluke.
