I have been wanting to come here for quite some time but today was the day I ventured to Kennebunk. Snug harbor is a paradise for plants, whether you like them as house pets, as landscaping, or as food, Snug Harbor has all of it. They have one of the most beautiful selection of pet plants in the area and the farm itself is kind of fairy tale like. I wanted to come here for the famed terracotta pots they make. They're all very rustic looking, some with green mossy exteriors, and range from tiny handheld pots to giant pots you can fit in. They have a little shop with more gardening and plant lovelies, showing off tools and specialty items. They have kokedamas hanging around here and there and it's just a beautiful place. The only downside to the farm is how expensive things are. I felt their plant prices were a little on the expensive side, but they had beautiful tropical sun their greenhouses that were gigantic. Looking for olive, lemon, or orange trees? They have them! Their pots, what I came for, were incredibly expensive too. A standard 6 or 8 inch pot will cost between 30-35$. I ended up with a small one for a single succulent and I was out $15! The farm has many animals and a whole (fluffy dove?) house too. Ducks, peacocks, chickens too! The staff were super friendly as well. I'm glad I was able to make it down but unfortunately I definitely felt a little priced out. They have toonnnss of succulents and would definitely recommend coming one for a more "interesting" succulent as I saw many that I had not seen before. Their houseplant selection, while they had many, did not have any super unique ones, but definitely had large plants that may be a little harder to find. I rarely saw a houseplant that was in the $20 range unless it was small. Most were in the $60-$150 range to give you an idea. Regardless, this is a beautiful place and I would probably recommend getting a plant instead of a pot alone. A single succulent in a pot was cheaper than the pot itself. I probably won't be a regular customer, but will drop by when I can. read more

I love this place! Open year round with an amazing selection of plants and other things. Whenever I need a gift for anyone, I always come here. The prices can be very high, but the quality of the items is amazing. You can find anything from hosting gifts like table cloths, olive oils, and teas, to craft items, puzzles, funky cards, and more. Everything seems to be made by a small business which is an added plus. The staff are always friendly and if you're lucky you might see some really cute farm animals runnning around! read more

We have driven by this place many times and recently had a reason to stop in. We were looking for some flowers for the garden beds in front of our house to add a bit of color. What we found was so much more. Entering from the small parking lot, you'll find multiple green houses with plants based on climate. You'll also quickly find a curly, white pigeon or ten! They are beautiful and happy to share their home with visitors. There are also chickens onsite too. No dogs are allowed as a result. If you're looking for a tree, Snug Harbor Farms has got plenty of options for you too. During our visit we got some advice from an employee tending to the plants. She answered our questions and provided a cart to help us with all our purchases. Even if you're not planning on growing your garden, Snug Harbor Farms is worth a visit. Their shop is beautiful and filled with books, hats, and other gifts the gardener in your life will love. read more

This was one of my favorite places in town and I was a regular customer who has probably spent in excess of $1000 there. Imagine my shock when they called the Kennebunk police and falsely accused me of shoplifting merchandise that I actually bought there according to their own records. A few weeks ago I brought a planter from home that I purchased last summer to Snug Harbor to find a fern to put in it and walked around the farm. Not a single employee approached me in the roughly 5-10 minutes I was there, but apparently concluded that I stole the planter. They didn't bother to check their own inventory to see if anything was actually stolen. Instead, I received a call from the Kennebunk police department this morning questioning me about an "incident" at Snug Harbor Farm. When I reached out to them at the Farm they looked it up in the computer and saw very clearly that 2 planters were purchased last year. When I spoke to the owner, he chastised me for not asking for help and when I conveyed how unacceptable this was he called me a "Karen." Small business owners beg you to shop local and then this is how they treat you. Disgraceful. read more

Spending a very cold, sunny November afternoon with my parents who stay in Kennebunk once or twice a year, they brought us here specifically just so we could see the mini ponies (because I might be an adult, but nothing reduces me to childlike wonder and joyful squealing like farm animals do). When we arrived we walked into a barn where a man was wrapping up red berries hanging off twigs in brown paper. Four mostly well-behaved poodles bounded around vying for our attention. We didn't stay long here as we were redirected to the actual shop (though my mom did pick up some of the decorative berries). The store was filled with all things gardening related, terrarium essentials (I never thought I wanted a terrarium, but this place makes me want to start one!), succulents, topiaries, etc. And the prices? Very fair. I bought a small, clay rabbit for just $3 because the adorableness was mind-blowing. The woman working in the store was all smiles, patient, informed, and allowed us to romp around the property at our leisure after we inquired about... of course... the mini ponies. The farm animals were in fact amazing - at first we didn't see the four mini ponies, but after a spell they came racing across the property chasing a few geese (the woman in the shop later said, "Chasing the geese is one of their favorite past times, I mean they have to keep themselves entertained somehow, right?" Lawlz.). We sat amongst the chickens, ducks, and geese who were all merrily eating the innards of some pumpkins totally unfazed that we were in their space. It was amazing to be so close to the hustle and bustle of Kennebunk and yet feel entirely removed; and to steal away a few moments with these gentle animals? Love it. Snug Harbor Farm is a charming and rustic farm, nursery, gift shop that's entirely worth seeing! Plus they also have some really fabulous workshops throughout the year including wreath making, how to make floral center pieces, and they even host tea parties and Easter egg hunts, too! read more

Snug Harbor Farm is a beautifully majestic place where I dream I'll run away to but never do. However, I can carve out some solid Sunday time to visit, pet the ponies and buy some succulents. On a recent trip I splurged for the large hanging succulent to decorate my new house! A house isn't a home without some great plants. I now have a tiny succulent museum thanks to Snug Harbor Farm. Their prices are reasonable for beautiful succulents and they take care of their plants very well. Everyone's always friendly and there's also Dot the bunny who you can find roaming around the green houses! They also have a peacock, roosters, ponies and other little adorable creatures hanging out here. There is also a good selection of garden decorations (Buddhas, clay sculptures, etc.) for those who like to work on their gardens. It's one of the ideal spots for the garden hobbyist or someone looking for a fun exploratory afternoon. Don't forget to browse their shop - they have great air plants, hanging terrariums, hand sculptures, clay baby heads (yes that is a thing) and other cute little treasures. My friend took me down to cheer me up one afternoon. My cat had just passed away and I was feeling pretty low. As we walked through the greenhouses I was so amazed at the variety and the beauty of all the plants inside. There were miniature horses and all sorts of different kinds of chickens milling about. I picked out a beautiful David Austin rosebush to plant in memory of my fur baby and left feeling much better than when I arrived for sure. I hear they are open year round so I imagine I will check it out on a cold January day too. The plants are pretty expensive but I was just blown away by the whole experience it was worth paying a little bit more than usual. read more

This lovely little farm feels like a slice of paradise. Loved the plant selection especially the succulents. The farm felt special with the free range chickens, grape vines and apple trees. Fyodor Dostoevsky SNUG HARBOR FARM is a nice name for a nursery. It also has some nice tree shrubs and plants, much bigger than you see in big box stores, and at reasonable prices. Captain Tony the big guy with the blond hair, easy smile and gourmet girth is the owner. His form of Care of The Soul is expressed in his enjoyment in working with plants. Not so much customers . . . for whom he has thinly disguised disdain. Frankly Tony If you don't like customers or answering their "silly" questions for the umpteenth time why don't you just grow purple orchids in the back shed and let your staff deal with them. I guess you would be able to then enjoy your perverse pleasure in looking down your nose at your patrons You just don't seem to get that whatever business you are in today (cars, pizza, nursery) you are in the customer experience business. A great attitude on your part would probably often count a lot more in the equation of the customers judgement about Snug Harbor Farm than a great Japanese maple, or Blue Spruce. . Instead of feeling I was in a snug harbor where I could find rest and tranquility I felt I was in an environment of a hostile sea where snide sarcastic remarks were the constant undertow designed to bring you down You told us to look at the the plants in"The topiary," but refused to answer my question "What is a topiary?" when asked."Go look in the topiary." you insisted. I asked how much a plant was and you, he replied" the price is on the plant." necessitating me kneeling down and trying to read it without my glasses. When I asked you if you would consider a volume discount on the trees we were considering, 4 for $400 instead of 4 for $140 each on the four trees we were considering buying you clearly got mad. You snapped "I don't have to discount them. I will sell you 1 for $400." I realize Tony, that i am not perfect and neither are you, but I am the damnable customer. I felt my last resort after hearing your snide & sarcastic responses to call you a Wisenheimer, I'm sure you thought me a "Bunghole" or worse. I was flat out ready to buy four trees, at $180 a piece, I left a message with for you with one of assistants and yet you never gave me the courtesy of calling back. I guess that's a pretty clear statement that your view is "I don't like you and I have so much money I need your business." If you treat customers disrespectfully its going to boomarang back at you an hit you in both your brand capital and wallet. Gorgeous inventory, and in terms of setting an oasis of calm and beauty, with the roaming peacocks and gentle ponies, but customer service was supbar. I spent about $350 in a 2-month period, one item of which was a $125 topiary that went into a sharp decline in 2-3 weeks. I brought my receipt w/ date of purchase and the plant was taken into 'rehab', which at the time I felt was a fair compromise. Fast forward 6 months later and a phone calls and a few emails (there was a period of time they could not locate the plant to give me a status update), I was told the topiary didn't make it, but was offered no recourse in store credit. In fact, I was out the terra cotta planter as well. Part of me of course misses their inventory but I'm simply not risking going through a drawn-out experience with an unsatisfactory ending. read more

Nicely maintained farm and nursery. They have a nicely stocked shop with a huge variety of garden items as well as home goods. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Make sure you check out the greenhouses and farm land in the back of the property. Will definitely plan to visit on our next trip to KPT. read more

Verdant, rambling, superbly laid out, this farms offers an amazing array of plantings, shrubbery and perennials not offered at run of the mill nurseries. There are incredible objets d'art, rustic furniture, unusual sundries, cut flowers, fabulous fibers, local dairy items and veggies as well. The nursery offers the most amazing members of my favorite flora family - succulents - and they are displayed so artfully. Each green house and outbuilding offers so many varieties of exquisitely exhibited pots, with or without greenery. You will find water features and tall grasses ensconced unconventionally. Miniature horses, beautifully plumed fowl and white downy ducks stroll the property. And even though I didn't see it, I swear I heard a peacock in residence! I will always stop in as I meander home along Route 9. read more

This remains (after many years) my favorite place anywhere in the Kennebunks. I now work summers in an area inn, and I am determined to tell everyone that they must stop in here. They all come back to the inn quite grateful. The list of what's wonderful here is quite long, and it's impossible to express just how incredibly beautiful every square inch of this property (inside and out) is. Let's see... There are the miniature ponies out back and the ponds. There are the odd and interesting displays in the giant barn area behind the tables out in the front that hold the seasonal plants, pumpkins, etc... The different little rooms inside the house area are ever changing, and you will want to possibly spend hours in each one. Stoll outside towards the back, and be sure not to miss a square foot out there! Yesterday, I discovered the chicken and other bird barn once again. This time, they all had seasonal treats like pumpkins as snacks. The chickens are amazingly tame there, I guess they get lots of kind treatment. The greenhouses are perfectly arranged with topiaries and lovely interesting plants. In the yards, you will discover little gnomes under miniature trees, etc., at every turn. The plants and items they sell there are all price ranges, but the quality is absolutely top notch. The best gift shop around, and they are open at least 8 hours a day every single day of the year.
