While in Bantry, the western part of Cork, Ireland, we booked a reservation at The Snug, which is stone's throw away from our hotel. The ambiance is casual and reminiscent of any Irish pub here in New York City. My partner and I decided to share from appetizer to main course. For appetizer, we ordered seafood chowder with bread. We decided to go surf and turf for our main entrees. We selected seafood linguine and 12 oz sirloin steak with caramelized onion. We found the dishes filling for two people. We had a party of 9! Rolling into Bantry Bay early evening on a Thursday. Not too many places open for dinner and we were starving from our drive from Galway. The Snug took us all in. It was the best meal I had Ireland!! Fresh fish caught right across the road as I was told! Cute pub and we all had a great meal. Thank you to the owner (who I didn't catch his name). This place is wonderful. We came here for dinner after a long day of driving, so it felt very nice to walk into a restaurant that was not only cozy but full of light and smiles. We sat down in a cozy booth and promptly ordered a myriad of food items: duck, chicken, a side of vegetables, and of course TWO desserts (sticky toffee pudding and the brownie as unfortunately they were already out of the trifle). The portions were very large and my only area of improvement was I wish the duck had been a little more moist. Regardless, the flavor was rich and dynamic, and we gobbled it all up. In my opinion, their strong suits were their desserts which had a warm and comforting look but had a very elevated, rich, and delicious flavor profile. I definitely felt like I had a meal that tasted like the memorable childhood food that my Irish grandmother, if I had one, would have made me. Really lovely place! One note - as we are not locals, we noticed about half way through that the majority of the people there seemed to be on a date night as a lot of them, the women especially, were dressed nicely. Perhaps this is the Irish way, but forewarning, if you want to fit in well, come cleaned up. And very hungry! read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. I'll say that the food was decent....that being said, if your American, DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT! Ever eat dinner while everyone stares at you and seems repulsed? Well, if that's the experience your looking for, then you found your place. It's sad that this kind of prejudice exists and to be honest, I was naive in thinking it didn't, until I came here! From the front of the house, to the bartender, to the guests in the place....terrible! Local spot of entitled people and they don't like our kind. Glad to be moving on! read more

We are touring SW Ireland on bikes and stopped in here for dinner and beer. Cozy family friendly no frills pub atmosphere with a good selection of draft beer. The place was quite busy but plenty of seating. Our waitress was a hoot - full of local charm and personality. My wife had the mussels which were fresh and according to her maybe the best she's ever had. I had baked cod and it was excellent. Overall this was a good choice for us. read more

Stopped in for lunch. A little unsure at first as there was only 1 other customer in the place when i sat down. I ended up ordering one of the specials and a couple drinks.
