They're cheeses are all a must alongside their breakfast sausages and Italian sausage. Full of great flavor and incredibly lean with all the great taste. The rest of the store is stocked with pasta, sauces, breads, local goods, chocolate, ice cream and granola. Everything I've had has been delicious and I can't help but keep going back for some of my favorites. You'll find their name in local markets and farmers markets.

I asked for mayo for my cold cuts and she tells me that the mayo packets are only for people who get sandwiches. Really now? I spent $30 on cold cuts and she was resistent on giving me a few packets of mayo which was insane to me. Then it was my aunt's turn--she was purchasing a few items and ordered a sandwich--she went to the first register and they told her it was closed so she proceeded to the second one which I was at and which the owner/manager was ringing me up on. She had a few items to purchase and ordered a sandwich. The owner/manager rang in my aunt and my aunt thought she paid for all of her items and we proceeded to go sit at a table and wait for the sandwich. She brought her items to the table and commented how they didn't give her a bag with her purchase. We thought nothing of it. We then ate, and as we were eating the owner/manager kept walking past us giving my aunt dirty looks and the evil eye. She even had her workers doing the same to us. We couldn't figure out why. So we shopped around and were getting ready to leave, and the owner/manager proceeds to say to us "are you going to pay for that cream in your bag". We were completely taken back. My aunt had no idea she didn't get rung up for the few items and because of the accusations that she was a common thief, she left her items on the counter and told them to basically shove it. How dare they! Instead of the owner saying to us that she made an innocent mistake and didn't ring her up for the few items, she followed her around instead and then accused her of being a thief as if she were a common criminal. My aunt is such a good thief that she was hiding her items on the top of the table!!! The owner had MULTIPLE opportunities to approach us and tell my aunt, I'm sorry Ma'am, but I made a mistake. I didn't ring up those items. Instead, she chose to accuse her!!!! What disgusting behavior from a woman who is in a customer service business. She was rude, disrespectful, condescending and accusatory. Wow, were we shocked! My aunt even said to her, I paid for these items--the owner tells her NO, you didn't--I didn't know those were yours on the counter when I was ringing you up! WELL then whose fault is this---certainly not OURS! What horrible, terrible behavior. And then to be followed and glared and stared at as if she is a thief. This was a HORRID EXPERIENCE!!!! Even with an apology (which the owner owes my Aunt) we will never be back and We would NEVER recommend this business to ANYONE. If you want to be disrespected, then be sure to go to this place and you will face the same fate that we did by Ms. Sourpuss herself. Not even a crack of a smile. Not even a hello and welcome or can I help you with something. Can I offer you any napkins for your food so you don't have to use your sleeve to wipe your mouth. Not even a "sure, you can have a few packets of mayo for your cold cuts which you are sitting eating at the booth and making a "SANDWICH" out of. She did say the packets were only for customers who get sandwiches, am I not CORRECT??? JUST RIDICULOUS! This is the 2nd time we've been there and her staff was just as rude the 1st time. We figured we'd give it one more shot and support a local business, but boy were we wrong to go back. We can tell you this, they will never see another penny out of our pockets. Roxbury Farm is amazing…read more Shortly after I moved to the Captial Region ThinkAnd D. told me about this great little farm called Roxbury that he thought I would really enjoy. He is one of the few people whose taste I trust without reservation. So I immediately went to their website to try and subscribe to the CSA. Unfortunately I was too early. I marked the date when perspective members could apply for a share, and on that day I went back to the site. As it turned out the farm wasn't quite ready yet, and suggested I check back in a few days. The tragedy was that when I finally returned, all the open slots had already been filled. So I had to wait another year, and even then I was only able to get a share at a less than convenient site. It was only this past season that I finally was able to become a member at the drop-off site nearest to my home. With two years under my belt, I have seen bounty and I have seen loss. That's part of the CSA model. Your fate is tied to the farms. What you get is at the mercy of the weather. From that perspective 2011 was brutal. An early hail pushed off the start of the season. And even after a hurricane that flooded the creek and destroyed a massive amount of the farm's crops, they miraculously continued to deliver amazing vegetables (you can see the photo above for yourself). It was the subsequent tropical storm that really was devastating. The season had to end a few weeks early, and winter storage crops had to be used to prolong the deliveries for as long as possible. Even with these losses, my love for this farm is undiminished. Their biodynamic produce is delicious. The best corn is corn that has just been picked. I love the flood of tomatoes, red peppers and cucumbers at the height of summer. They combine naturally in a panzanella salad that requires no cooking just at the time of year when you don't want to turn on your stove. Winter out here is long. When summer rolls around, it should be celebrated. And there is no better way of celebrating it than eating freshly harvested produce that was grown nearby. I can't say enough good things about this farm. I can just thank them for all their hard work and happily keep subscribing to their CSA.

When I see a sitar, I reach for my gun.* But I love, love, love cooking and eating well. And I love love love supporting alternative community endeavors. Roxbury Farm falls under the rubric of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). For those not familiar with CSAs, for an annual fee one essentially becomes a 'shareholder' in a farm for the duration of a growing season, receiving a portion of the farm's output on a weekly basis. We're very fortunate in this area because there's quite a few CSAs to choose from. Roxbury, though, is one of the oldest in the nation, has standards that go far beyond the government's definition of acceptable 'organic' farming standards, and is socially conscious, delivering free food to local pantries. Their weekly newsletter displays a pragmatic sensitivity to regional issues that I rarely see around this area. Roxbury's weekly share is geared for a family of three, and they've got dozens of drop-off points scattered about the immediate area, making pickup very convenient. For example, the distance to my drop-off location is a short bike ride away (but there's so much food that the trip really demands a car). Most of the produce is what you'd expect from this region, but the quality is vastly superior, and every once in a while you'll get something relatively surprising, like bok choy, garlic scapes, or some unusual pepper or green not available in local supermarkets. In terms of quantity, I can say that we've never finished off a weekly order without freezing or preserving some of it. It's a little pricey, but well worth it, especially if you've got a freezer or know canning. You'll have great vegetables (and fruit and meat, if you like) all year. Our favorite coffee is the blueberry coffee, a good seller because they need to have two urns of it available! Great sandwiches for lunch. We tend to order one of their wraps that we put on bread. The ice cream counter does amazing business! There are some fresh fruits and vegetables and a surprisingly large section of beer and hard liquor. Automobile oil. Greeting cards. ATM machine. Newspapers. The service is fast and friendly. Located on the Housatonic with seating overlooking the river. Lovely. Definitely pay them a visit. You won't be disappointed.

We receive a big ol' bag of veggies every other week from May-November and the price cannot be beat. The vegetables are organic and they're always super fresh and tasty. Every once in a while, you will have the option to add on a jar of honey or a special prepared food dish to your share and they will deliver it right to your office with your share. I've shopped around for other CSAs and find that the price of the Katchkie share is extremely affordable compared to other farms that will charge upwards of $700 per season. If you ever have any questions or concerns, the NYC-based staff that organizes the CSA program is friendly and responsive. Love Katchkie Farm-- so sad this CSA season is over and can't wait for next Spring!
