There's no perfect snow plowing service. When there is massive snow, power outages, and staff are hit with the same illnesses that the community has, there will sometimes be delays. But overall, I am super happy with SRS. Jake communicates by text with updates which is so helpful. He explains when they will be out running the plows, and if there are issues, he explains them. It is a HUGE improvement compared to Elements which is the other well known company in the Tahoe Donner area. Residents on community social media sites like Nextdoor.com clearly show a preference for SRS over Elements. This is just one episode but during the recent storm, my driveway was plowed by 6 am and my neighbor who has Elements was plowed in the late afternoon. read more

I posted a message about snow plow frequency on NextDoor without naming any company or implicating him in any way. He posted a picture of my house on Nextdoor and said he came to my house in the middle of the night. Really scary! He said in response to my anonymous msg that never named him, he would stop plowing my house and keep my money because "I'm Jake, and I do what I want." I've contacted a lawyer. Please please don't hire this company. They are aweful. These guys are so bad it would be comical if it hadn't made this winter a nightmare for my family. We were regularly the only driveway not plowed on our street. During multi-day storm cycles they would plow every other day at best. Equipment broke down for days. There was no consistency to timing, it was often late. By the end of the season I was emailing them pictures of new snow measurements as otherwise they would tell me there wasn't enough to trigger a service, even though there clearly was. Worse than their poor product was there service, these guys are difficult to get a hold of and unpleasant when you do. Even just trying to find out when a service was planned I was berated and even yelled at. Half way through the season they realized they hadn't put me on their email list for updates, for months I had been trying to figure out what the plan was and they ghosted me or were annoyed. They didn't even acknowledge their mistake when I was added to the list. Not that it helped much, service was still infrequent and unpredictable. read more

I switched from Elements to SRS this year and was very pleased with their service through a winter that stretched many to their breaking point, especially since we are high in Tahoe Donner. While I saw other people lashing out about not having their driveway completely clear of every flake of snow every hour of every day as storm after storm rolled through, SRS maintained a professional service and stuck to their contracted clearing amounts as storm after storm rolled through limiting time for maintenance and keeping the drivers in the vehicles day after day. In an extraordinary winter, our driveway was never entirely missed, and only on 1 day/storm cycle did they leave more snow in front of the garage as they cleared the winter access road our garage is off of - a quick phone call sorted that out (the depth and weight of the rain soaked snow made them run behind and since we were not there that day as evidenced by our stairs, they we leaving that for a cleanup run but missed it) and it was cleaned up in less than 2h from my call. Once or twice I think they came after I needed to get out so I pulled out my own blower to clear the 30" that had fallen in the previous 24 hours and the berm - only to have them come around the corner just as I had cleared the berm. They provided clearing notifications via text which was an improvement over the no-communication we received from other companies. I'm not sure if this was new for this year, and may now have fallen behind some of the other realtime tracking options offered by some other companies. SRS kept the outside parking spot open when other companies would charge for it, but then not keep it open because they were worried about the clearance - but also would not discount for not clearing and would repeat this behavior year after year. SRS kept my steep driveway open until there just was no place to put anymore snow and I told them to let it fill in - no other company has even tried to keep this open which has lead to an expensive special garbage pickup charge for the bear box. They also did a lovely job on sealing (crack filling/refilling and seal coating). In short, I was extremely happy with the service they provided through one hell of a winter. I am sad that they will not be covering my area next year. read more

I would give them a zero if I could. Yesterday we had a snow storm. About a foot of very cold snow fell. Snow removal solutions did not come to plow my driveway until 7pm! My husband and I had to shovel our driveway to get our grandchild to daycare. Snow removal solutions did not come to the daycare providers home either. So small children had to walk down a very icy steep driveway. It was a total nightmare with parents and providers and small ( I mean small) children slipping and falling in the ice. What am I to do? This is an excellent small, local business with considerable experience, total integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction. Those two prior "reviews" (hatchet jobs) may have been written by a competitor masquerading as legit customers. SRS has no woman - mean or otherwise - who ever answers their phone. Period. That should say enough - It's either bogus, or an error. The vitriolic tone and impossible content of both sound like a fake, or refer to an entirely different company. This should be corrected. Before I signed up with SRS, I checked (on my own) with at least 8 neighbors (not from referrals) and got surprisingly consistent, highly favorable reports; most were people who had used other snow removing companies. For the past three winters, especially the record-breaking 2010-11, they came EVERY time there was enough snow that I would have had to put chains on my truck to get out. They must have lost a lot of money that year. More than half of the snow storms they did a fast and complete job often before the snow had stopped falling, usually before the Town truck had gone through, and then came back to clear the Town's berms, do a clean-up or work their way into corners they hadn't agreed to clear. If the snow lasted more than 12 hours or more fell after they were here, they came back. I never had to call them back. I never had anything to complain about. I was and am impressed by how conscientious they are. I can't understand how the two customers before me - if they are legit - could have had such experiences, unless they have confused SRS with one of the other local services, one with a reputation for frequently having trouble keeping up with the load or keeping his equipment repaired; another for lack of dependability and punctuality. It wasn't until we called to remind them it needs to be done over a week later they came out with no notice. He customer service is poor and his level of professionalism is nonexistent. Owner is overworked and short tempered (not a good combo) and they were missing in action during one of the biggest storms of the year - which means we were trapped in our house and had to take a day off work because we couldn't get out of our driveway. It's unfortunate that I have to write this negative review, but Jake and his crew has let me and my tenants down. On one of the biggest snow storms of the season, this company failed to deliver and as a result, my tenants had to spend a couple of hours clearing the driveway so they could park. I reached out to Jake at 10:18 am to let him know I needed the driveway cleared before 3 pm because tenants were arriving. He said my area had been done. Not the case cause I have cameras that clearly showed it hadn't been done. I told him that and he said he would get to it. That was the last time I was able to reach Jake. The later calls all went unanswered and sent to a full mailbox ( very unprofessional for a business). I could also tell that some of the calls, which go to his cell phone, were purposely not answered and sent to the full mail box. Bottom line is, this small company did not deliver when needed. I gave them a chance, despite people in the industry saying Jake has shady business practices, but now I regret not going with the larger operations provided by others. At this point, I would recommend you steer clear of Snow Removal Solutions, at least till they get there act together and learn how to deliver some customer service. The company we have a contract with for snow removal hadn't plowed our driveway in two days (it is just a crazy time right now, so I understand that they are busy, we just needed to get out to stock up on supplies). With over five feet in our driveway, and no way to get out, I called Snow Removal Solutions to see if they could do a will call plow of our driveway. They answered immediately and said they could make a special trip up here within an hour. Let me add that we just got about 10-feet of snow! We are waiting another hour to see if our regular company shows up, if not I will call them back. This snow plow service plowed our driveway once in a whole month. We then asked the service to come and plow our driveway since they had not and it was so bad we could not make it up. But, they decided it was best to yell at us over the phone. As things got heated the very unprofessional company had their guy come to our door, in a truck NOT A PLOW, to tell us off and that we were shitty people and they couldn't help us cause it was NOT their problem. I rarely dislike companies but instead of trying to help us they told us off and came onto our property to yell at us. I've been contracting with Snow Removal Solutions to clear my driveway in the winter (we have a very long driveway in a pretty remote area), and they have always done a great job, even when I make pain-in-the-butt requests like taking pains not to blow snow in certain areas. SRS is affordable, dependable, both drivers are friendly and courteous as could be, and they have responded quickly both times that I have made make a special request. They even came out on Christmas eve 2010 to clear my driveway so that my kids and husband and I could drive out to see grandma for the holidays--a small Christmas miracle! Looking at the comments so far on Yelp, I am surprised and skeptical to see all the criticism of a company that has always impressed me with their great service. All I've ever seen from SRS is professionalism and a job well done. This is a classic American small business with roots in the Truckee community. In fact, when my brother in law, who lives up on an inaccesible part of Donner Pass, got snowed in during the huge March 18th storm in 2010, the owner brought him groceries so that he could hold out until the snow load lessened. read more

Snow Removal Solutions also does driveway sealing (the 'other' driveway maintenance thing needed in Tahoe during the summer). Jake and his crew did a fantastic job on our driveway. We've had it done by other companies and, with so little competition in Truckee, it just got too expensive for us, so my husband has done it himself for the past several years. We waited a little too long this past summer and contacted Jake. They did a beautiful job --better than any other company we used in the past (Waltman and "Elements" - mediocre end result), and my husband had to admit, better than his sealing jobs also. Came recommended by others in Armstrong Tract, but I just can't agree. More times than not, we are digging ourselves out of the driveway by hand in order to get to work/school. We chose this company because on their website they state that they will be out plowing starting at 3 in the morning and will even (most times) be back to get the berm later in the afternoon. I don't care about the berm..I expect to shovel that myself. But I do expect to have my driveway clear when we're trying to leave for work/school in the morning. Why did we pay these guys $600 so that we can clear our own driveway in the morning?? Yes, there have been a few times that they came at 5:30 a.m. and all was good. But most times it's 10:30 a.m., as late as 1:30 p.m., when the driveway is halfway melted anyway. That doesn't help us at all!! One time he came at 8:15 and we were late to school because we were sitting in the car, waiting for him to clear the half of the driveway that we didn't hand-shovel already. Meanwhile, I always look at the next-door neighbor's driveway as we're shoveling our own, and it's already been plowed by a competitor. We're switching to this competitor next season. I'm posting this review today because last night we had a storm, and it's now 11:45 a.m. and no plow in sight. We just got done shoveling our own driveway...again. read more
