Shaved ice is not smooth enough, and I don't feel like mine had enough syrup added to it. I tried to let it sit a while so I could try to drink it through the straw, but the longer it sat, the ice just kind of formed into a little block, instead of melting enough for me to drink it. Didn't finish it which made me sad because I ended up paying $5 for it. Another thing, their prices are clearly advertised, but I ended up paying an amount that didn't make sense to me unless their speciality drinks cost more and they just don't have it listed. I don't mind that, but I do wish there was some caveat- speciality drinks are $1 more. Posted on their window was avalanche size $5, regular, $4. So I got two of each size and should have paid $18. I ended up paying $21, I think because the two bigger sizes were specialty, and one of the mediums was too. $6x2, +$5 + $4 = $21. This is a really bad habit I have of not paying attention until after the fact so I didn't bother to go back and ask about their pricing, but I'm just glad I had enough cash to cover it. Ever April and May, when temperatures start soaring into the 90's and 100's, Bakersfield natives start to look the for the familiar sky blue A-frame shacks to appear in local parking lots to bring us some much needed relief. Sno Shack is like a one trick pony in that the only thing it sells is shaved ice. But this trick comes in 94 flavors, enough to last you all the way through the summer. They sell these magical frosty treats in three sizes: small $2.50, regular $3.00, and avalanche $4.00. All of them come in flat bottom styrofoam cups that fit in my car's cup holders. I watched the worker fill the bottom of the cup with "snow" and then pour the syrup over it, I chose passion fruit and guava, then she filled a large funnel with "snow" and inverted it over the cup and poured more syrup over the top. This ensures that all of the precious shaved ice is doused with syrup and there are none of those pesky white patches. And they come with the famous spoon straw so that you can sip or scoop to your heart's content. Beware the dangers of the dreaded brain freeze, for which there is no known cure. I've experimenting with squinting my eyes closed really hard but I can tell you from experience it doesn't help - not one bit! read more

Sno Shack is a summer tradition in Bakersfield (at least is has been since I moved here in 1998). They have a large variety of favors and the staff is always friendly, even though they're all high schoolers :) This time I got strawberry, I wanted spearmint but they didn't have it. That is why I'm giving four stars, spearmint should be a staple in any establishment such as this. That said, the strawberry was very good, they put lots of syrup on it so almost every bite was flavorful. My wife and kids also loved their flavors. We will definitely be coming back multiple times this summer, as this is a necessity in the Bakersfield desert heat. read more

A Bakersfield summer staple! I look forward to these little blue shacks opening up every summer. I am extremely boring and always get the raspberry passion because it's my favorite. This location is the closest and we have never had a problem with the kids that work there. They are always quick and efficient and I give them major props since the weather sucks to be stuck in those all day. The last time we went the kid working there made sure to put the syrup in the bottom before adding the top piece with even more sugary goodness. My only complaint is they don't always have change for a $20 and they don't take cards. So be prepared with small bills if possible. read more

My experience was horrible... 4.50 for a watered down, no flavor, and didn't taste like cherry flavor at all! It was more like sugar water with food coloring that wasn't even red it was pink. Then gave another try at the Brimhall location and it tasted like dirty tap water. The owners need to quit watering down the flavors and need to use filtered water. The picture I posted was right after the first taste and wasn't even worth the money or calories. I was very disappointed and unsatisfied. read more

Waited in line during the heat wave for a bit and realized there's a bunch of people ahead of me that weren't even helped. The employees let the person at the front of the line know that it would be 5 minutes before they receive their order. Needless to say, we left. It sounded like they were training a new employee and just wasn't ready to be open during this hot summer. Great shaved ice! The lady that helped me was nice too so that always makes things better. My only complaint is that they need to have their toppings shown better and maybe bigger font overall for their flavors. I have tried this place a few times and each time I am disappointed! First they do not put enough syrup on the ice, second the syrups taste artificial (I know they are artificial but some syrups actually taste good), third the service is horrible. I get that there is only one person working but the young lady took forever (15 mins) to make two ices. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place read more

Born and raised in Bakersfield, I anxiously the first day during the summer they set up and start selling their little pieces of heaven, also known as snowcones. Sno Shack is one of the solutions to 100 degree weather, which Bako has consistently throughout our blazing, dry summers. The ice is always softly shaved, and the flavors are extensive and there's a tasty favorite for everyone. My personal favorite is the orange pineapple with lemon lime. There are several locations. This one's location is by the Denny's on Gosford and the O' Reilly Auto Parts. The people working there are fine. They are not a problem...my rating is based on the quality of the product. They advertise Shaved Ice. That is not what they sell. What they sell is not soft (like real shaved ice), it is crunchy and not very pleasant to eat. It's more like course snowcone or crushed ice. Anyone who has ever had a real shaved ice knows that course and crunchy are not words that are used to describe it. They need to adjust their machines or something. read more

The shacks are cute and seem to be all over the place. But I have to say its more like a snow cone than shaved ice. The ice is a little granular and not soft and fluffy like the shaved ice I have had at other locations. However it was tasty and refreshing. With so many locations it is convenient and you don't have to drive far. read more
