We were recommended this spot by a local person, stating it was a great place for good down home…read morecooking. We arrived and were warmly greeted and were allowed to select our own table. The menu was nice and diverse, something for everyone. Two of use got the Thursday special, meatloaf and the other two, fried chicken. The meatloaf was spot on good. I ordered mashed potatoes/gravy, and cabbage/green as sides. The potatoes were good but the gravy could have been seasoned a bit more, but still good. The cabbage and greens were very tasty with a good smokiness from bacon. A little bit of acidity would have put this over the top, and again, still very good. The fried chicken was cooked perfectly with a nice coating, not greasy at all. The staff were great and the restaurant itself was simple but nice and clean. Prices were fair. I highly recommend stopping at this humble little restaurant for some good home cooking.

Holy cow! Talk about good food! We stopped in on a rainy Saturday and this was one of the few…read moreplaces that came up with good reviews. The service was quick and friendly. My mom got the catfish sandwich and coleslaw. We couldn't believe the portions! I had the McNasty sandwich with a salad. Hand breaded, fried chicken with melted cheddar cheese, bacon bits and honey mustard - it was delicious! You could also tell that the staff enjoyed working there. The portions are enough to share. Loved this spot and would recommend to anyone in the area.

Let me be straight up about this: Dirt Town Deli carries only a modest selection of sandwiches,…read moreprepared on the spot, in a roadside stop that is easy to miss and looks as if you'd probably want to skip it, anyway. But please don't drive by: The food is very good. And you can get some night crawlers, too. No kidding. The homemade pimento cheese sandwiches are as tasty and fresh as you could ask. Burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, a little salad. All very basic. Incredibly cheap. The pimento cheese is $2.50. Fries $1.75 No kidding. There are 4-5 big tables with seating for 5 or more. The cook serves your food, you pick out your own drink from the cooler. Most lunches for two come out around $6-7. What makes Dirt Town so special is the crowd. It's the neighborhood meeting place for miles around, and there "the liar's club" gathers for breakfast. That's a group of elderly war veterans (WWII, Korea, Vietnam) who sit around and talk. The conversation is friendly, animated and covers everything from taxes to television. Listening is like being in a time machine, and it's an amazing, wonderful experience. No one who walks in is a stranger, so be prepared to start chatting with your neighbor and new friend. No kidding. Dirt Town is open from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays. It's between Rome and Summerville on Highway 27, about 13 miles north of Rome, the closest city of size. It's the friendliest place I've been into in years, and those little sandwiches will surprise and delight you. The conversation is priceless. And those night crawlers? Yep, that all the other bait you need and other fishing supplies is available here, too. You can even get some advice on how to reel 'em in.

Eating at dirt town deli is kind of like sitting down and your grandparents kitchen and eating at…read morethe table while they're cooking. It's not fancy it is in a store, they sell all kinds of old fashioned candy and bottled soft drinks. They sell peanuts by the pound tomatoes and several other convenient store needs. As far as the food goes they offer a special every Wednesday something like country fried steak and fried okra, and then they have all your basic southern Staples. One of my favorites is just a plain old club sandwich it's not fancy it's just your traditional club sandwich without all the bells and whistles that a lot of the restaurant to do to fancy it up. There's always older men sitting around telling stories from the way way back & A basket of fresh picked peppers on the table. It's a great place for comfort food, and making you feel like your visiting your grandparents.
