Well fellow yelpers, believe the hype. Smokey s IS one of the best burger joints in Vienna. Location: Overlooking Swedenplatz and the Donaucanal. Decor: Fun and funky terrace style furniture and fresh easy going decor inside. Service: Polite, friendly and quick. Burgers: GREAT! There are a couple of burgers to choose from and all can be "pimped" with bacon, cheese etc. They all come with a large salad and choice of fries or wedges as well as your choice of extra sauce on the side. These are varied and delicious. I had the sweet whisky sauce and it was amazing. The wedges are homemade and very tasty. Large portion too. The salad with the burger is also quite reasonably sized and very tasty too. The burgers come with a choice of white or brown bread and cooked to your own individual taste. (Rare, medium, well done etc) They are juicy and taste flame grilled and for me the mixture of herbs is just spot on. A great experience and a great burger! read more

Smokey's does an awesome burger. The best thing about Smokey's is that the burgers are totally tailored to what you want: white bread, brown bread, rare / medium / well done, cheese / bacon / whatever else (!) on top, chunky potato wedges or chips and/or salad plus one of the awesome sauces on the side. I would recommend honey mustard or sweet whiskey (which is yum even though I hate whiskey). If you go for the traditional Smokey's burger (which I would recommend) you also choose your size: small, medium or large.....I went for the medium then lapsed into a food coma for an hour afterwards. It was so good. Maybe the number of options has confused you? Fear not. Friendly staff will guide you to your ultimate burger experience! Or, make the boring choice of just pick a pre-made burger from the menu ;) Either way, get to Smokey's! read more

I went with high hopes based on others reviews but if this is Vienna's best hamburger I am in trouble. :( This is not an American style hamburger. If you are expecting a 5 Guys or Fuddruckers quality burger, keep looking. As an American who knows hamburgers I was disappointed. The meat was fine and cooked well it was everything else about the burger that was a disappointment. The main problem I had was the burger being served on an thin 'English Muffin' style bun. English muffins are for Egg McMuffins at Micky D's. A hamburger needs to be on a large soft bun or Kaiser bun. Next it came with mayonnaise and ketchup which was not listed on the menu, and I would have left them both off if I was aware they came with the burger. The Chili sauce I ordered with the burger was not spicy as expected, and I chose not to put it on my burger. But my biggest disappointment was paying 4.70e for a 'Vanilla Shake' that was milk with 1 scoop of ice cream run trough a blender. I am not kidding when I say this was the worst milk shake I have ever had. I payed 4.70 for 400ml of milk that had an almond aftertaste to it. Will I return, no but your experience may be different. read more

Burgers with a view! Looking out on Schwedenplatz, choose from one out of 8 burger options and choose your size (small 120gr - medium 200gr - large xxxgr) and white ordark bread. Vegetarian and mint burger available but otherwise burger options aren't very creative (mushroom sauce?) The cheese burger is topped with goood cheese (yes according to the Dutchie!); ask for medium-rare if you want medium. Ginger lemon tea is not fresh / seems artificial. This is a great burger place near Swedenplatz, so it's very easy to get there. We went there on a Monday evening due to many other places being closed. Because of the nice and warm weather we were able to sit outside on the terrace in front of the restaurant. The menu offers a variety of food and drinks. Vegetarians as well as meat lovers should find something nice to enjoy. There is a reasonable selection of burger, most of them can be ordered in two to three different sizes. Depending on the size (small, medium, large) you get some extra Pommes/wedges, a homemade sauce and a salad with your burger. As you order, the waitress will ask you to decide between three different types of buns (white, brown or sesame) - all of them looked tasty. I should mention that you will be asked how you want to have your meat patty cooked. My partner went for a sesame cheeseburger with the whisky sauce, I chose the farmers burger on a brown bun with some guacamole. We both ordered a medium burger with wedges. Our food was served shortly after the drinks arrived. The wedges were very crispy and well-flavoured, but it was a rather big portion. I really liked how juicy the medium-cooked meat was. Just as I want it to be. I am not entirely sure what happened with the salad, but there was some sort of flavour with it which wouldn't fit 100%. That's why I left the salad to one side. My partner had no problem with it. There are seven tables on the terrace and at all of them there were people happily eating their meals. You might smoke on the terrace as well as in a seperated room inside. Because of the filled terrace the waitress seemed to be in a slight rush. Once every table was dealt with she clearly calmed down. Despite the facts of her being on her own the whole time, she was very friendly to all customers. Definitely I would recommend this location to everyone who wants to enjoy a good quality burger for a fair price. read more

I must say that all the american reviews here are disappointing. Criticizing the English muffin as being part of the burgers is equal to not understanding the concept of the place. They don't aim to make traditional burgers, you can see that in the meat, in the sauces, everywhere basically. This not my favorite burger but it is great for what it aims to be. read more

Smokey's was indeed very smokey inside. I did not see any non smoking area, but i also did not look, so maybe there is a place for me there. I did not eat anything this time, but i am told they have the best burgers in Vienna, so i will need to go back and try them. They also have outside seating, but i fear it would be very loud on the very busy street. But it seems to be a nice place and i look forward to having a great burger and much less smoke. read more

On the other side of the Schwedenplatz across the Danube you'll find a surprisingly nice burger place! Thanks to gigantic windows you'll have a nice view over the Danube :) If you don't get the chance to sit in front of the window don't worry, the decor on the walls are nice and fun! As for the food: you won't be disappointed :) The burgers are delicious, with quite a large selection of ingredients combinations! The meat was perfectly cooked and tasty. They are served with pommes or wedge potatoes and/or salad and you can have wholegrain bread if you choose too, which will make the meal quite healthy if you choose too! As for the salad: the big size is indeed big, served with toasted bred and enough meat to file you up :) It was exactly what I was hoping for that night. Plus the staff was very friendly and made us feel even more at ease in this sympathetic local. The only minus point of this great place is that they don't have any non smoking area. It wasn't that annoying when we were sitting there but we did smell of cigarettes when we left! read more

The location is easy to get to - just across the river from Schwedenplatz. The interior is simple and clean - like most burger places in the US. As for the food - the fries were disappointing. They were so tiny that they didn't work as 'finger food' - which is part of the fun of eating fast food. The potato wedges were much better. The veggie burger patty was good - unfortunately they covered it in yoghurt sauce, which was neither ordered nor mentioned on the menu. (But I know it's a common thing restaurants do in Vienna - put yoghurt sauce on everything - even Mexican food. Stop doing that Vienna!). Another negative was the bun - which wasn't a bun but an english muffin. I was really looking forward to a real sesame bun. No luck. They should offer a choice of buns which would go with their general concept - customizing your burger. Which is a great idea! You can have whichever sauce you want and add toppings. Their sauces were great. The BBQ-mushroom sauce was amazing! The guacamole was not close to the original but good in its own way. I can tell they are trying really hard and really care about the product they put out. I want to go again in a few months to see if they made some adjustments. So one star less because of the bun and the yoghurt sauce. I took another star off because Smokey's is an ALL SMOKING restaurant. I'm not going to be a burger snob. I read that the burgers were served between English muffins and I was open to it. But I just don't think it works - it doesn't hold the burger together, it's too small and too crisp. The burger itself was tasty and cooked well. We were hoping for a 'flamed grilled flavour' though, given their claim of 'bbq' and that the name is 'smokey's' - unfortunately it wasn't there. The burger is served with homemade cut fries and a salad. They should skip the salad - it's very, very bad - soggy and undesirable to look at - it actually does taste a lot like what it looks too. We also had onion rings which were more batter than onions. On the plus side, the waiter was very friendly and I had a delicious ice tea which they make themselves. All in all, this was not a bad experience but it's certainly not a burger to remember. read more

The burger meat is very tasty and cooked to order. You should know it is served on an english muffin instead of a hamburger bun, but it's actually quite tasty. The toppings are interesting, but not bad. The fries at first are reallllllyyyy good, but after the first 10 they start to taste more like sweet potato fries, which I'm not very fond of. We went to Smokey's in search of American burgers, and left the restaurant very pleased. The burgers are served between English muffins, which was a pleasant surprise and seemed to work well. The burgers were perfectly cooked, the thick cut french fries were delicious, and the portions were bountiful. We also ordered a banana chocolate milkshake to share. It was served in a small glass and was not suitable for sharing but was tasty.
