Let me first say that I am not a bbq lover. I don't eat red meat nor pork at all and I am not huge fan of meat. Having said that when I do part take I am picky about my dining choices. This was only my 2nd visit. The first was shortly after they opened up and a friend and I ordered take out and this last visit was with a group of teachers for lunch and we dined in. Parking was a little challenging even though it was 2PM on a Friday. The area is busy and the private lot is tiny. I used the side streets a couple blocks over. The wait was about 15 mins until the server came and about another 15 for the food. I ordered wings which comes with 2 sides. I had mac'n'cheese and sweet potato fries. The best part of the meal was the fries. Mac was nothing special and the wings were horrible. I was supposed to have lemon pepper and a honey option but the honey wasn't available. Too bad because the lemon pepper was not well seasoned nor cooked. While I'm no expert, I'd say I have certainly had better wings from local restaurants and bbq joint Virgil's that was waaaaaayyyyy better. read more

There was a table of 8 that came in 15 minutes after us and got their food within mins of ordering when we were waiting for 20 mins just to order. They placed my coleslaw under the heat lamps to sit. Came in here on a rainy, Sunday late afternoon. The place said it was about a 15 minute wait, and I would say it was about 5 seconds to get a seat. The waitress was very kind and professional while being very efficient. For those who have worked in the restaurant industry, you could say that she "turns over tables quick." I hope the business owner is pleased with his staff. We decided to share the 1/2 beef and 1/2 pork brisket that came with corn bread and corn and two sides of our choosing. We selected the mac and cheese with collard greens. The food came out fast, and was not as hot as it should be. How ever we were hungry and it didnt dampen the tastebuds to much. The beef brisket was awesome and soft. The pork was just as good. The mac and cheese was a little bland and I have had better (homemade) collard greens. All in all I would give this place another shot because it could have been an off day. As it was, I saw other patrons there that seemed like regulars so I am sure the food could be better. Of course everything is relative, but the BBQ I just enjoyed at Smoke BBQ Pit in Springfield Gardens (Jamaica), Queens, was about the best I have sampled north of the Mason-Dixon Line and east of the Alleghenys. As we approached after parking in the narrow lot behind this joint, the strong aroma of smoked meat overpowered us, and set my salivarys a-squeezin'. We were tempted to just walk in the open back door into the kitchen and claim temporary insanity if called for trespassing. Then I thought about all those sharp knives used to carve up the sides of pork and beef, and decided discretion was the better part of valor. We walked around to the front door. There, we were warmly greeted by a couple of dudes in black, who genuinely took an interest in our satisfaction until the moment we left two hours later. The dining area was all wood paneling and beams. Picnic tables and benches, and all made to look and feel like a large south country cabin. The ambiance perfectly suited to the pungent and piquant smells wafting on the air. There was a long bar on one side, and the kitchen in back with a Southern Pride smoker. On the far side was a second room for private parties. They invited us to have a look, even though it was closed at the time. Good salesmanship. Our primary server learned that this was our first visit, and recommended "The Feast 2." He described that is was a sampler of three of their meats (our choice), plus 4 sides and corn bread. Given the rest of the menu had platters and sandwiches in the $10-12 range, The Feast @ $32 made sense. We ordered the Pork Ribs, Brisket, and Chicken; plus Baked Beans, Fries, Corn on the Cob, and Cole Slaw. Something from every food group. Everything was first cut. The Pork Ribs were meaty and dense with little fat. They hung on the bone, and had been basted with a great Memphis style sauce. No more was needed. The Brisket was tender and succulent. The Chicken had crunchy skin and excellent flavor. All the sides were decent, if not outstanding. If there was any weak link, it might have been the Corn on the Cob. We buy our corn from the farmer across the road from our home, and it is really impossible to compete with an ear that can be eaten raw after shucking. Too, there was so much food on the platter, that the kernels were really overkill. We also made a mistake ordering the Peach Cobbler after consuming so much. Eyes bigger than stomach. It was huge, sweet and creamy, but microwaved, which made it all rather too soft. At $7 it was a something we would not do again. Otherwise, Smoke be smoking! This was my first time visiting this location. I have heard mixed reviews about this establishment and decided to give it a try. There was a party of four in my group to dine in. When we first entered no one was there to greet us. We did not know if we had to seat ourselves or wait for someone to greet us. We proceeded to the takeout counter & the cashier there instructed us to sit anywhere. Her attitude was very nonchalant. Our server was a male with a short high top Afro; the one like Kid from "Kid N play." He was a cool guy. No complaints with him. He came & took our order and went on his way. The food was good! We had mozzarella sticks which were cold ! We sent them back which we normally never do (send back food) but they arrived better even though they probably just heated it up super fast cause they served us the same exact order which was fine. I also had fries which were good. The onion rings were okay. My guests had cheeseburgers which they said was really good and I had chili "something" wings. We also ordered coladas. I had a Virgin strawberry colada and my guests had mango & another had Henny colada which they said were super strong! Haha . The bill was about $100 for 2 burgers , 2 orders of mozzarella sticks, Onion rings, fries and 12 piece chili teriyaki wings along with a Henny , mango, and strawberry colada plus a strawberry lemonade. Oh I forgot to mention that I didn't like that they advertised this new flavor of wings but charge a $1 extra for them because I don't recall seeing the $1 extra charge on the menu but it was on our receipt but it wasn't a big deal. First time coming always passed by it. Wish we kept passing. No one to greet us we had to sit ourselves. Appetizers was mozzarella sticks absolutely horrible, it tasted like they fried it two days before from a bag and then reheated it to serve us. The other day I caught up with some girl friends and we had lunch here. I was blown away! The food was so good! My 3rd visit. This was the first time the food was piping hot (that alone earned a star) Service was friendly and we didn't feel rushed at all. Strawberry Lemonade in a globe glass tasted great although I normally prefer the Sweet Tea in the Mason jar- It just seems appropriate. Left feeling very satisfied for the low price we paid. I made the trip. Took like 30 mins but I had to check it out. I ordered the brisket, pulled pork and beef back ribs. Had to pass on the sides as the meat content alone was way too much. I also ordered a strawberry lemonade, which looked like a giant goblet of femininity when placed on my table. It was very good, and placed next to pounds of BBQ I was able to still retain my manhood. So, interestingly enough, I found myself here twice in one day. So I think my review will be pretty comprehensive LOL. My girlfriend took me here for a birthday lunch this past Saturday. When we entered, we were seated right away and given our menus. Our waitress( I think her name was Sherina was SO pleasant). We ordered the strawberry lemonade, which was delicious. For meals, I got the half slab beef ribs, for sides I got the garlic mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and mac and cheese. My friend got the half slab pork ribs, potato salad, mac and cheese, and something else that I don't recall. I came later that night with my husband who was in the mood for some beef ribs after I told him about it. He ended up getting the beef brisket with garlic mashed potatoes, and I forgot his other side. I ended up getting the jumbo shrimp with coleslaw and bbq baked beans So first the good: The beef ribs were amazing!!!! My friend said her pork ribs were great too, I really appreciate a place where I can get beef ribs since I do not eat pork. The coleslaw was excellent, very creamy and not watery. Their cornbread was soft and perfect, they gave you butter to add but you really did not need to. The jumbo shrimp was great and so was the tartar sauce that came with it, the baked beans were good too. The drinks were good as I mentioned. Service was great, and the restaurant had a good vibe overall. The not so good: So the booths are just wooden seats, no cushion, nothing, so it does a number on your bum by the time you get up. The "garlic" mashed potatoes just seem like regular mashed potatoes with gravy to me, I didnt taste any garlic. In fact, the second time we ordered them, it didn't even come with any gravy. I was really disappointed that when we went the second time they ran out of beef ribs. I just feel like ribs are one of the staples of this place and they should make sure they always have them. The first time I went, my ribs came out luke warm, but when I told them, they quickly warmed it up for me. I didn't try the beef brisket but it didn't look too good. It appears they cook the brisket then add the bbq sauce on afterwards. I think it would be great if they could actually cook the brisket with the bbq sauce so that all the flavors penetrate the meat. My husband didn't complain but after he tasted my shrimp said he should have ordered the shrimp instead. All in all I still enjoyed both meals i had here, like most restaurants, you just have to get used to the menu so you can know what you like and don't like. It can't cost more to scoop out a small dish of baked beans from some big pot of them in the back than to throw fries in a deep frier till the bell rings. She was unprofessional & had no social etiquette from the time I walked into ask if I could place an order to go until the time I left. Have been coming here since they opened up. Great BBQ. Such a regular that the owner now knows me and I LOVE the beef brisket and turkey burger. Let me tell you about this turkey burger...juicy, moist, fresh, flavorful, and best of all it's tender. It comes with a side of regular french fries but you can always upgrade to another side. Beef brisket is laced with just the right amount of bbq sauce and virtually falls apart when you pick it up with a fork. Love the rack of paper towels on the table because you know it can become a finger-lickin' great experience dependent upon what you order. I only dislike their lack of desserts and on a weekend evening, the parking isn't necessarily right out front. However, there is parking always in short walking distance. ONCE, our waiter was slow but he said he was new so we cut him slack. I do not drink, but my husband says their drinks are "good" but he's had "better" elsewhere. I ordered a 1/2 slab rib and beef brisket with mac and cheese and collard green dinner and paid $35 thru Grubhub. They sent me the ribs and 1/2 chicken. The ribs were not bbq. They were baked in an oven and they put bbq sauce on them. They collards tasted burnt and the mac and cheese was day old and tasted horrible. They food was horrible. Absolutely pathetic. My family and I ate there a few years ago and was disappointed. I thought I'd try it again thinking they're food would be better but no it's worse. Grubhub refunded my money and the threw the food in the garbage. I didn't even consider giving it to my pets. That's how bad the food was. Think twice before ordering anything from this place. Back again with a few tips for your experience. - If you want to get your meal quickly, order the ribs or the wings. - Call ahead at least 10 minutes if you are taking out if you are not ordering ribs or wings. - parking in the back is tight. Park on side street. - at the bar, go with frozen drinks. Beer should only be in the bottle. - Sunday's are busy. During the week...not so much. Not much has changed from original review. Decent food and service. Depending on your food choices, you could be working with too salty or under seasoned. The food isn't bad BUT they water their drinks down. If you look at the bottles, the labels are worn out or are the whole entire wrong label. The bartender (I won't say the name) owned up to the bottles being filled with water in the basement. Take a look at the picture of the Hennessy bottle (if you know, it's supposed to be brown around the neck). The bartender even let us smell the Hennessy, remy, courvoisier and it wasn't as strong as it should be. It's really sad that this is what happens here and anywhere else. My next step besides this review is to call the health department because I'm more concerned with what I'm drinking compared to how much I have to spend. Today we decide to try this place. It's been at this corner for years and we've never went in. I now know why. lol To start the service wasn't all that great.
