From the outside I was very unsure how a venue in a tight space was going to be able to accommodate the guests for a wedding we attended but wow they really made incredible use of the space! Every angle of the venue is very well thought out, and there are lots of little nooks and corners that are great for conversation, intimate moments, dancing, meeting new folks, or a little display or setup. The couple who got married was so thoughtful about setting up the space but I also felt the venue was very well suited to be able to do so much even with limited space. There was a special suite on the second floor, large banquet area with projector, and fun outside area with plenty of comfortable seating. I had a fantastic time! read more

We hosted our summer 2025 wedding at Smogshoppe with the Marvimon team and seriously wow. Whatever your expectations out of a venue and a production team, throw them out the window because Marvimon will surpass them 10 fold. Truly, we don't know what we would have done if we didn't host with Marvimon. Due to a mandated curfew in the downtown area that went into effect 2 days before our wedding, we had to pull off a last minute venue change. They immediately offered to move us from Millwick in Arts District to Smogshoppe in Culver City to keep our guests safe and our timeline intact, and then worked night and day to update layouts, shift staff over, and make our wedding happen with no hiccups. They were truly a dream to work with. On top of that, every single interaction we had with them was so focused on understanding and executing our vision for our day. I don't know how their team does it, but every single email we sent them was replied to in 15 minutes flat and with everything we needed to know and more. We just had our wedding at SmogShoppe and it was a fantastic experience. The venue itself was perfect for our needs, with space for both the ceremony and the reception. The venue itself looks so nice already we had to do very little in terms of decoration to give it the look we wanted. All of the plant life in and around the building make the place have a very organic feeling. The lighting looks great and made our photos turn out very well. We got married at Smogshoppe on 10/28/23 and could not be happier with how our day went! From the first time we stepped foot into the venue we knew right away that it was the one for us. It has so many beautiful areas for photos. Aside from the beautiful ceremony space itself which is completely lined with greenery, the venue has some secret nooks that are stunning. After touring so many locations thank you Smogshoppe for being that breath of fresh air. Customization of the vendors made for a very appealing booking. COVID 19 REVIEW: Came here for a big wedding and reception. The ceremony was outdoors and we could have used some shade, but I guess that goes with the territory when you have an outdoor wedding on concrete surrounded by greenery covered walls and a building. The reception was indoors in the former garage, but they kept most of the giant garage doors open for most of the reception and it was as if the reception was basically outdoors too. Bottom line: a very safe outdoor venue re pandemic. Post-script: Outside of the wedding party, I was aware of only two post-wedding COVID 19 infections out of about 120+ guests. (It appears that half the wedding party got infected after the wedding, probably from another member of the wedding party.) Fortunately, no hospitalizations. All attendees requested to have been vaccinated and boosted. read more

I was lucky enough to get to shoot a wedding here with my boyfriend who is a photographer. We were truly wowed by the details! Seriously, around every little corner there's beautiful decor, cool vintage finds, and greenery that makes me want to hire them to decorate my house! The upstairs private area for bride and groom or like a VIP section was stunning. Roomy and just beautiful. We ended up getting amazing shots up there! The Marvimon team is great to work with, they are communicative, understanding, and fun - they do a great job of hyping you up for your event. We're still hearing from our guests about how much they loved the venue and never would have guessed an old automotive shop could become such a beautiful event space. We loved the eclectic look and feel of it all, especially all the greenery! I would recommend leaning into the look of the SmogShoppe, it has a personality all its own. I was worried we would hear traffic the whole time but the high walls really do separate you from the main street and block the sound. They have a great team of recommended vendors that made our lives so much easier, and all of them were the same fun vibe that we were hoping for. Unbelievable venue. I am an old-fashioned MOB and it took me some time to adjust to this type of a venue, but wow did it deliver. It is so beautiful inside and has so many photo-perfect areas. The staff is incredible in that they made each component of the evening from the service, cocktail hour, seated dinner & dancing flow perfectly. Our dancing crew had a ball while other guests lounged and chatted in the other many comfy lounging areas. Just couldn't have been more perfect and gorgeous. SmogShoppe was an AMAZING VENUE!! We got married on Saturday 2/5/2022 and it was an absolute dream. We got so many compliments on the unique space, and how cool everything was. Having the upstairs crows nest was so great, it gave us a little space to go when we wanted some alone time, and was also a great place to have our parents up for a few drinks/snacks during the wedding. Dana and Clare with SmogShoppe were so helpful! They answered every question I had along the way with knowledge and they were both very sweet. Having a great venue and venue crew is obviously crucial for wedding planning! I loved the venue so much, that I am already hoping down the road we can renew our vows there in the same space. The event designer (Dana) was so helpful helping us choose the perfect layout for the food, bar, photo booth, etc. Without her we would have been lost! We celebrated my cousin's wedding here. Parking is a bit cumbersome but the venue itself is very cute. The feel is vintage meets contemporary with a mix of speakeasy. I came here as a guest. The venue was absolutely beautiful and they have the most incredible staff. A guest of the wedding party went MIA and Galen really went above and beyond when helping us try to look for the guest. He showed us the security camera footage and walked with us through the backstreets and alleyways. When we decided to leave the venue to drive around for the lost guest, Galen offered to Uber the guest back to our hotel if he ever showed back up to the venue. I cannot thank him enough for standing by us the entire night and doing whatever he could to be helpful. read more

Came here to check out the venue space with Megan (coordinator for Smog Shoppe) and was pretty impressed with the outdoor portion of this venue, which doesn't surprise me of the overall rating here on yelp for this place, despite the high price tag to rent. When I first came here in my car, I initially missed it, but it is an easier find than their sister property (Marvimon). I parked in their little parking lot (which by the way, you are allowed to have up to 15 cars in there for your event, without being charged a valet for) and walked around to Cullen St for their main entrance. This place was originally an auto shop, so I love to see remnants of it throughout the facility. Anyways, right when you walk in, you may notice the sound of the small water fountain (that helps to drown out the busy street traffic of La Cienega) or the lush garden wall outside or the white overhanging sheets hanging right above the garden wall. I love this open outdoor space because it has a lot of potential (Smog Shoppe can move furniture out here to give it a more lounge feel, especially nice for a cocktail hour let's say). There are more restrooms here than Marvimon, 3 stalls in the ladies' and 1 stall in the gentlemen's (with 2 urinals). The restrooms here are interesting because the ladies' have a cat theme and the gentlemen's have an auto shop like theme (check out all of my photos for a photo tour of the entire place). There is also a small pink closet between the ladies' & gentlemen's restroom that clients have used to place their photo booth in (according to Megan, which seems like a good place to put one actually). The main room/ hall inside is bigger and more open spaced than the narrow room/ hall at Marvimon. There is also a projector that can be used and also included with the 12 hour rental fee. There are also stairs right between the restroom area and this main hall. What is really cool about this is that at the top of the stairs is where your DJ can set up. Since Smog Shoppe does have a pretty good sound system wired throughout the place, your DJ could just bring his laptop and hook up and be ready to go. Also what is nice about your DJ being up here is that he/ she can control but the outdoor and indoor area a bit better since he can be seen from both places. And better yet, he can also make sure no one else comes up here except the bride and her entourage. There is a small room with a couch up here for the bride to just chill out a bit and there is also a bathroom up here as well so that she doesn't have to share the bathroom with anyone (always a nice touch if you are a bride... believe me, this makes all the difference). Oh and by the way, there is a full equipped kitchen outside that is sort of hidden for your caterer to use (much nicer than the kitchen at the Marvimon). I would have to say that the decor of this place, including the chairs, really gives it, it's charm and really plays up the whole unique venue in itself. It has this nice laid back, lounge feel, which is a cool vibe to let guests walk into. Even Megan had this real nice laid back and friendly, easy to talk to demeanor (unlike the service I received at another location I visited on my venue visiting trek...check out my review on Glen Ivy in Corona if you're curious). But a few downsides about this almost nearly perfect venue (you know not all venues can be perfect without a price or some kind of stipulation...that's what those asterisk are for) is that you are required to have valet (at least $650-750 something depending on the number of guests you have) and this doorman management company at your wedding, which can significantly increase your investment in the Smog Shoppe. There are also some rules that you have to follow here, including needing to have a baby sitter (non guest) present if you have like 3 or more children at your event (but I am sure rules like these are to ensure that the venue is returned back to them in pristine condition when they had 1st rented it to you). And lastly, the major down fall of this place is the rental fee... but if you are willing to have an event any other day besides Saturday, it goes down quite a bit. By the way, this place does not offer off peak discounts nor military discounts because according to Kara (coordinator at Marvimon), this facility & Marvimon are rented out throughout the year without any problem (thus them being able to charge the high prices that they can). Overall, a very different and unique venue that is absolutely beautiful. Located in a pretty safe neighborhood, but unfortunately your rental fee is not the only cost that you would have to pay if you rent this place (valet and doorman management company mentioned above). If you have the money and do not mind it being gone in a day, then by all means, rent this place. But if you are a budget conscious person, then you will most likely have to look else where. read more

I got married at this venue on May 2013, and fell in love with its contemporary landscaping, and how they incorporated with rustic elements and also some vintage flavor as well. Once I saw the furniture this venue provides, and the succulent wall, I needed to reserve this venue. The Smog Shoppe provides you an onsite contact in case you needed any questions, scheduling, and vendor details. With added cost, they will provide valet, and an onsite manager. The downside of this venue is all of the added cost. With added cost, you will need to hire their valet company. Another added fees were meetings with the onsite manager, clean up fees, furniture moving fees, onsite manager on the day of the wedding, certificate of insurance of liability... It became very costly. The Smog Shoppe is only a venue, so you will need to hire a caterer, staff, and bartender. Also, the venue only moves their furniture (with added cost), but they don't do any other decorations, so you will need to either have a professional wedding coordinator, or your bridesmaids. Also, at the end of the reception, after the guests had left, the onsite manager hassled us to clean however, I could have sworn that our contract did state that cleanup fee was also noted under service. But still, I really wanted to get married at this venue, so I just bite the bullet, and just let things go with the flow. After all that said and done, I'm still very happy that my husband and I got married at this venue. Our wedding photos all looked amazing at Smog Shoppe. read more

Was here last week for a private party. Very trendy, kitschy kinda venue... I guess it really is a smog shop during the day? Or it used to be? Anyway, its at a TERRIBLE location in Culver City... with little to no street parking. All the avenues around it are CRAMPED CULDESACS. If you try to go in them the night of arrival, be prepared to get stuck... I took the alleys out of the way and parked on Washington, away from the mayhem around the location. I love the atmosphere as it is mostly outdoors. Great place to experience. Don't think I'll be coming back unless my coworkers take a limo/cab it there. I don't find any fun in trying to find parking (mind you there IS valet, but I never, EVER do valet). read more

Located in an old repair shop, the indoor garage area is open to a lush outdoor patio area. The space holds about 300 people. But you can rent out the space for various events like cocktails parties, dinners, and screenings. I came here for a Hornitos event. The the cocktails were flowing, sound system was good, and lighting was perfect for a nighttime outdoor event. It was a little chilly, so we huddled under the heat lamps. Was at the smogshoppe recently for a wedding. It is super trendy but not overly pretentious. It's a secluded little oasis in the middle of urban sprawl. It reportedly has a leed platinum rating. The place allowed our friend to have outside korean food catering which is always a plus. They even allowed them (for a charge) to bring their own alcohol. It was a bit on the cold side towards late evening but they brought out the gas heat lamps and closed one of the garage doors. Definitely somewhere you want to check out if you are looking for a different and unique venue in the Los Angeles area. read more

This venue is beautiful. I do not regret having our wedding here one bit. Our wedding was intimate with a guest count of about 78 people during off-season... and it was on a Friday. So all of those factors saved us a significant chunk of cash. The team was great. Dana was our point-person and she was very responsive, organized, and informative. She tried her best to assist us during the planning process as we didn't end up hiring a planner. The only sort of negative thing I have to say is that the venue should have bistro lighting installed already. It makes the whole space just that much more magical during the evenings. Obviously this comes down to aesthetic preferences, but to have to rent that separately, to me, is just really annoying as they don't have anything to lose by already having them strung and ready for use. SmogShoppe and the team at Marvimon are exceptional! They helped us plan our dream wedding and everything went off without a hitch! They are super responsive over email and are so accommodating of your vision for your wedding. We booked the space the day we saw it; it was exactly what we wanted - super eclectic and vibey, very LA, and indoor/outdoor. We had a non-traditional, cocktail-style wedding with cornhole, a stick-and-poke tattoo artist, a tarot reader, photo booth, and pizza and tacos for dinner with no assigned seating. The layout went through various changes, but the staff at SmogShoppe never told us no, told us exactly what we would need to rent (quantity, type) and were able to answer all of our vendors' questions. The attention to detail and amount of information is unmatched. We used a few of their preferred vendors (MTB Rentals, Jaliscos Tacos) and they were wonderful! The the venue is a 12-hour rental, all furniture included, sound system, temperature controlled, bridal suite/private area, projector screen (we played "Hair" and "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" on mute behind the dance floor), and full industrial kitchen. It's a great deal for the money and Dana, Alex, and Clare are just the cherry on top! read more

This venue is a complete surprise when you walk into it. Greenery draping the walls all around. It's a modern, bohemian, downtown loft like space that felt like a jungle but, in a good way! Once we saw this, no questions...we wanted to get married there. It was expensive no doubt about it. However, it delivered on every level and was just our kind of place. They know what they are doing so things run smoothly. We had a piano player, guitarist/singer and my nephew playing the violin. The space was great for music! We had a Pixar short to show and a little animated video I created. Having a large movie screen and sound system to showcase them to our guests was KEY! You can google a boat load of photos of this venue online so you already know this place is very cool. We elected to have our wedding on a Sunday to save some money. It was a great call. $3k less than a Saturday. Most everything needs to be rented/purchased a la carte here so YOU have to do all the work, like getting vendors for food, cake, valet, liquor, bartenders and any custom decor. They have a preferred list that does get you started, so definitely use that! Keep in mind that they have tables and chairs for only 96 people (8 people per table). Anything over that, you will have to rent yourself. There is a great upstairs space I think they call the Crows Nest where you can dress and there is a full bathroom. It's a nice private cozy area to decompress and to sign the paperwork, etc. This was a wonderful day/night in November. We got so many compliments on the venue and people said they had so much fun! I came to a wedding here in February. Right away, I realized how the photos don't do the place justice. It's very unique and rustic atmosphere. A little on the odd side as well, who doesn't love that? It fit perfectly for the couple who were married. It had cute little rooms for the bride to get ready and the groom to patiently wait in the "chapel" area. Every corner of this place is unique and rare, including the area they prepare the food. Loved every bathroom and mirror. Adored every piece of art on the walls, even the fan belts on the wall in the reception area. The only downfall of the set up at the Shoppe, in my opinion, was a lot of walking back and forth for the wedding party in my opinion. Maybe I was the only one doing the back and forth walk. We looked at a few other venues, but none could match the feeling of amazement that we had when we first walked into SmogShoppe! Not only is it a beautiful venue that doesn't require any extra decorating work to make it special - which was a huge plus for us, since we're not exactly DIY people - it also allows for enough customization that you can make a wedding that feels precisely unique to you. There's no required caterer or other vendors (except for valet), so your only limit is your imagination!
