Often a change of owership can bring about a rather dramatic shift in business ethics and professionalism. A stark example is the Smog Stop. Tho they provided exceptional service in 2017, this was completely reversed several years later when I approached them for a new smog test. A preliminary call indicated they could manage the test, but when I parked and approached the technician he refused to conduct the test! Since I was his only customer I thought this was a bit peculiar. I then asked him if there was a reason he didn't want to test my vehicle. "I just don't want to" he replied in a pouty teen-aged girl sort of way. Under California state law (with a few exceptions) he is required to test a car. But I thought it unwise to belabor the point at this juncture, and let go of the issue. I then drove around the corner to another shop, who cheerfully performed the test. (I passed!) read more

Normally my reviews are positive and I try to be fair and reasonable; however, I'm not a fan of Smog Stop. First, as many reviews have already indicated, my first interaction with this business was negative. The person on the phone was about as uncommunicative as I have ever experienced (should I say 'rude'). That should have been sufficient for me to bail, but I needed a smog check immediately and the place I normally visit was closed (again). I expected to pay the advertised 36.95 via a coupon that is only available via an online attachment. I got the message saying the coupon was attached, but there was no attachment. When I got to the business the technician indicated that because it was a motor home the fee would be $100. Where on their website does it indicate the exceptions to the 36.95? Here's a hint, nowhere, but right next to the big fancy coupon shown on the website it indicates that they smog all vehicles. Very misleading in my opinion. So, no coupon when there should have been one, and even if I had one it wouldn't work for my vehicle. The only good news is that there was no line and my vehicle passed. read more

Super rude customer service unfortunately. The man who took my call acted like my questions were absolutely beneath him, giving smart alec responses to my general questions. I realize HE works in automotive, but not all of us do. Answering simple questions such as if I'll need a reservation for a smog check, or the costs, or if an approved smog check will be sent to the DMV shouldn't be answered in such a poor way. Perhaps I caught him on a bad day, but we won't be using his service and I'll be telling friends not to use him either. read more

Took a 2011 car in that had a light lit up on the dashboard. Didn't pass smog test and still got charged the full amount, extremely annoying. Took it to mechanic who said the smog technician should have never hooked it up once he saw a light on. Live and learn, but I wouldn't go here, plenty of other choices and more likely to get an honest technician read more

Rude. Unprofessional. Closed early without telling me after telling us we needed to drive car 60 MI or so. Didn't tell us hey I'm closing 2 hrs early. Overpriced. Charge for "recheck" after not telling us it won't smog with new battery. Told me I should have known this... I needed a last-minute smog check so I called In & Out after I found them on Google. They said they could get me in right away (hence the name). I drove over and the owner came right out and got my keys and drove my car in the garage. I filled out paperwork and he had the car being tested within three minutes. The owner is this older guy in his late 60s/early 70s who dresses well for someone who does smog checks. He can only do one car at a time so you get good customer service. I waited right next to the car during the 10-minute check. It cost $60 (it was $10 more than a car since I have a small SUV). I passed, paid and I was on my way. I highly recommend this place. They're kind of hidden in a business park so look for the small "smog check station" sign with the arrow on the street. read more

Unfortunately slow and rude technician. Even with a $29.75 coupon you will be charged $46 to pass emissions. Try A1 Auto Repair, next door, it's $38 out the door and was out in 10 minutes with the SAME coupon and you won't have a rude owner to dampen your day. Hope this helps. read more

I came here because of the yelp reviews. The guy is Efficient but not the friendliest guy. When he gave me the paper work to fill out I started asking a question and as I was speaking he abruptly and rudely interrupted me, mumbled something seeming annoyed Put his hand up and walked away an proceeded to smog my car. I later told him what I had to ask and told him how rude it was to interupt someone in mid sentence as he did. Not sure if ill be back. The guys across the street were super nice when I went to find thus place they redirected me. I hate to give two stars here but went away not feeling so great I thought found somewhere to do my smogs. Keep in mind we have 5 cars. read more

I came in with a coupon from their website and they did not tell me until after the service that they would not accept it. My car did not fall under any of the exceptions listed on the coupon. This posting is under my wife's account because I don't have one. My normal smog guy was busy as hell, so I made the mistake of giving this guy a shot. He LIED to me over the phone and told me it would only be $25 if my kid's car failed. It did, but only because the battery was recently replaced and more miles needed to be driven for the computer to reset. Apparently I was suppose to know this and tell him that before hand. Please read the coupon, it clearly states that there is an added fee for the certificate so yes, the total ends up being closer to $45. I don't know why people complain about this when it's right there in print. The owner/technician was very kind and easy to work with.
