We went to Smith's Nursery to pick up plants for our front yard. The selection was excellent and the people working there were very friendly and helpful. I appreciated that they thought to point out which ones have thorns and we might want want to avoid since we had a little one in tow (I never would have even thought to consider that!). We also loved that they give you compost with plants. Prices were reasonable. The front yard looks great, and Smith's will be our go-to from now on. This place also wins an award for cool COVID modification. Instead of using plexiglass at checkout they hung an old paned window. read more

Hey there, I discovered Smiths about 8 month's ago. The lure was: they have sod (turf). I saw it as I was driving by on the way to something else. Came back that weekend and was surprised. No sod roll ups rotting on a pallet, but the most wonderful set up of a mini-sod farm out back, complete with sprinkler system and hand-care goodness. So bought 10 rolls in two trips and planted it on my front yard. Now it is the 2nd year and it is doing awesome in a section of yard that was previously unreconcilable dirt. This is despite my 120 lb dog trouncing across it! PROBELM SOLVED! So today, 8 months later bought $60 of annuals and got a really good deal. read more

I was very excited to go on my annual flower-getting adventure today, and thought I would give Smith's a try, since I go there at the end of the season and they are always so nice. I was slated to spend a lot of money, since I had quite a full cart. Sadly, though, two of the workers seemed more annoyed than appreciative of my business. The first one looked at my cart as if she were dreading going through it, and said to wait outside and she would come to me. While I was waiting, a gentleman (who avoided making eye contact with me like the woman did) said, "Oh wow, you are going to make us dizzy. I will bring you some trays." He never came, so I left. I was very disappointed because I was so excited all day to get my flowers, but I didn't feel right about giving my business to people who seemed like they couldn't be bothered. I heard such wonderful things about Smith's, but today must have been an off day. I will just wait until their half off/free sale in the fall again...maybe. read more

After my third year of going to Smith's, I decided to look them up on Yelp to see if they've gotten any love yet. To my surprise, they hadn't. If you're driving down Douglas Pike in Smithfield, you may miss them if their OPEN flag isn't up and flying- they're set back a little from the main road so take the turn and drive down a bit to their barn. They are open 7 days a week too. Bob, the owner, has a ton of trees and shrubs set out front, alongside rolls of fresh sod and anything else you can want for your home's landscaping needs. I found his nursery originally because our landscaper used him for all of our plants after building our home. I now visit him several times a season to get everything from mulch (delivered to my home), trees, perennials, annuals and vegetables Bob is very friendly and knowledgeable-- he has helped me troubleshoot plant issues throughout the years and has always been honest when it came to saving a plant vs. scrapping it and buying a new one. I appreciate it when a business owner is straightforward and lets me know if I can save some money by doing something myself instead of giving up and spending money on a new plant. Because of that trait, Smith's has earned my business for anything garden-related instead of driving up to the big blue box down the street. read more

Bought several rhododendrons from Smith's a few years ago and they're still going strong. I like that they're local, highly professional, and extremely knowledgeable. A couple of my shrub beds are looking kind of lousy and I will probably buy a few shrubs from them shortly. They have evergreen trees there too and they always look healthy. Very good prices. Everything I've purchased from Bob has been great. I'm a huge supporter of local small businesses. I just wish he kept his promise to deliver my firewood order. I even reminded him when I purchased three beautiful hanging mums. He said, "You're on my list!" and pointed to the paper with my name and number on it hanging on his cork board. I had no firewood for Thanksgiving, so I ordered it from his neighbor, CJ Tree Services. What a mistake! All punky wood that won't burn even after drying it out on my heated garage floor for two weeks. All promises to rectify, but no commitments. I wish I checked their reviews. The bad ones are unnerving. You gotta read it.. Anyway, I just picked up a square of firewood and deposited a 20 in the box. Another cool thing I love about Smith's! read more

Our experience with Smith's Nursery and its owner Bob Smith has been spectacular. We bought a house with a front yard that needed a complete overhaul and Bob patiently helped us through the process. He didn't let us make any hasty decisions for the sake of making a quick sale. I have been going to Smith's Nursery for years, and would never consider going anywhere else for any type of gardening needs! They have a huge inventory to choose from,from little 4 packs of annuals, to trees, sod, mulch, etc... The hanging plants are gorgeous. I am a comparison shopper, and the prices are well below Lowes, or Home Depot. For example, 4packs of annuals, vegetables are 2.50 a pack, as compared to the above mentioned stores are 3.68 a pack. The hanging plants are twice the size of any nursery I had visited( to check prices), and are $20.00 for most. The owners Bob and his wife Kim are extremely knowledgable, honest people, who will trouble shoot any plant issues you have, rather than sell you something just to make a sale. That is another reason I will shop at their nursery, and no where else!Check it out, you will be pleasantly surprised, and become a Smith's nursery fan, as I have. When it comes to shopping , I am a tough customer to impress, since I comparison shop for any purchases I make! read more
