I was struggling to find something other than the usual beach restaurants on the main drag that…read moreserve "paella, tapas, Spanish specialties, burgers, and pizza," and Royal Beach, certainly seemed a cut above the rest.
I loved that it's located right on the beach, rather than the street a block down It reminded me of the lounges in Bali where you have the option of either eating in a restaurant-style atmosphere, or lounging on the deck while people bring you delicious food and cocktails. Although the chef has a Michelin star, prices were quite reasonable.
I had a few glasses of their tasty Mallorcan white wine. I started off with a bread basket and olives. The olives were amazing, not too salty or overpowering. The bread, though not free, was very good, and it came with a red pepper puree and an aioli. The fact that they gave me a true aioli rather than just a garlic-flavored mayonnaise let me know that this was a quality restaurant with integrity.
For my meal, I had some grilled vegetables with black truffle and a beetroot risotto with Mallorcan cheese and candied nuts. The vegetables had good flavor, but it would have been much better if they hadn't included endives and fennel, which were overpowering and bitter. The beet risotto was very good and had just the right amount of very strong cheese on it. The portion was quite large, and I could have easily shared it.
For dessert, at the server's request, I had their daily special, a spongecake with some kind of granita-type ice on it. It wasn't bad, but I wish I'd gone for the goat cheese ice cream instead.
Service was excellent. Overall, Royal Beach is a wonderful choice if you're in the Alcudia/Playa de Muro area.
