I had a brilliant time. Not to mention the amazing people running the course. They're positive and kind attitude made me feel at home. I was honestly really sceptically about doing this course, but it really is worth your time and money. 10/10 would totally do this again!

The presenter was great and really personable. He gave an overview of the session and through each stage of the presentation he made sure we all understood. All of their other courses are conducted at various public secondary schools in the inner west. Well organised, and it is always great to flick through their brochures and select a course of two to attend either in the evening or during the weekend; just to get out and about and learn a new skill; and also to interact with likeminded people. Their cooking classes (especially the Thai one) isn't too bad; and it is great to eat the food afterwards; although their prices could be a bit lower and their class sizes could be a bit smaller. Fairly experienced teachers, although you are sometimes better off saving your cash and figuring out some of the topics they teach yourself; especially as a couple of the business related courses (for what they are worth) are actually a little boring, and did not receive much value out of them. An establishment that will continue to remain quite popular among those living in the inner west. Any of their health and fitness courses are also good to do once in a while; especially any of the aqua courses at Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre.

The Broad Place is a truly extraordinary concept that…read moreapplies 'ancient knowledge' in health, wellness, food and stress management to modern life. I came across the concept of 'high grade living' on the founder Jacqui Lewis's Instagram - and booked in for a free Introduction to Vedic Meditation talk the minute I knew I would be in Sydney. Jacqui is a highly sought after Vedic Meditation teacher and mentor, and her courses take place over four sessions. They say once you learn the technique, you have it for life! While this interested me GREATLY (and still does), I didn't have the time in my travel plans to commit to the Vedic Meditation course. But once you meet the incredible spirit that is Jacqui, you will be totally inspired by her 'intellectual intercourse' around breaking down how to make all the things in your life work for you. I could tell straight away Jacqui had the potential to change my life so I booked in for a 1-hour mentoring session as a gift to my future self. It was groundbreaking for my personal and spiritual development - Jacqui makes you feel understood, uplifted and empowered. She gave me practical strategies, wise advice, a list of books to read, and a bunch of notes and mind maps that we worked on together. The session took place in the Paddington School in a gorgeous greenery-filled sunroom with a pot of chai tea and her total attention. Jacqui is kind, compassionate and a total firecracker who really has a gift for casting a light on the misfortunes and adventures of life - and making your confusion or qualms a lot clearer than when you walked in. I am now trying to line up my ducks so I can complete a Vedic Meditation course with Jacqui. The Broad Place (also run with her husband Arran Russell) is a school for creativity and consciousness but is also a community - with an enviable calendar of retreats, workshops and gatherings for Sydneysiders who are lucky enough to have the Paddington and North Beach Schools at their doorstep. For out-of-towners, there is plenty of online resources like blog posts, recipes and even an online meditation course which I'll be eagerly jumping onto. I also always stock up at the Paddington School on Ayurvedic wellness items sourced by Jacqui and Arran from India, like sandalwood incense and Vata body oil, when I'm in Sydney. The curated selection of books, candles and ceramics make for great gift buying too! If you're like me and you care about the advancement of your soul, self-care and not losing your mind in the modern world (guilty...) - then I'd check out a free Introduction session with Jacqui and see if The Broad Place can help you along the way to a more fulfilled you.

It has been the most consistently motivating exercise i've ever done, while doing wonders for my grip strength, movement flow, muscle building, self-identity and sensual confidence. Particular shout-out to Ruby's beginners, rock n' pole & poleography classes for the dork neurodivergents who love to feel sexy, fun & love to laugh while you dance. Particular teachers like Hattie, Luna, Missy and J are so incredibly approachable I could do 3 hours and not even notice I'm sweating as much as I am. It tests all of your vulnerabilities, but each of those small wins makes you feel like you can fly. Couldn't recommend more - I'm a 7 week in beginner and I never thought I'd be able to climb a pole to a roof let alone perform moves at that height with no hands attached!

I completed a taster session on a Sunday afternoon and proceeded to sign up for an absolute beginners term on the spot. The studio is clean, tidy, friendly but most of all - WELCOMING. There are students of all skill levels, shapes and sizes which is comforting. Teachers are patient, kind and helpful and there is a very tailored approach so that you can progress as quickly or as slowly as you would like. The studio has showcase nights at the end of each term where students can show off what they have learned to family, friends and other students. These are optional but a lot of fun! Robyn (Studio Boss!) is a great laugh and extremly approachable should you have any questions, queries or comments. This studio is a little family and one I am pleased to be a part of.

Maybe its best that way as it makes it sound more exotic. Its much more exciting than saying I treadmill lol. Bobbi's is one of the first and best pole studios in Australia, and a long-time associate of Miss Pole Dance Australia. The classes are fun, structured and most of the teachers are trained dancers (ie. ballet, jazz etc). There are a large range of levels starting off at beginners where you get introduced to dancing with the pole, then you graduate to intermediate levels (3 in total) where you start going upside down! The advanced levels are crazy! The number of bruises I've had are numerous (and in weird places) but worth it. Trust me :) There are also lap-dance and flexibility classes to compliment your pole lessons, where you get to let go of all your inhibitions! An important note is that this place is NOT sleazy in any way. It is a proper dance studio and in fact a lot of the 'tricks' you learn are acrobatic in nature rather is sexual. Its a fantastic workout and you develop great core muscles and strength in muscles you never knew you had! The staff are very supportive, as are the girls (and boys believe it or not!) who come to dance. Bobbi's is available either at Elizabeth St in the city or at Miranda. They even have branches in Perth, Singapore and Malaysia. Most of the girls wear pole shoes, and I recommend HIgh Heels in Surry Hills if you want to buy a pair. But bare feet or normal heels is fine when you're starting off. So check out the website and book a class. No giggling! :)
