I've not been here for a while, but this mild Saturday found me craving shrimp tacos. (Most days…read morefind me there, but I digress...) 6 pm on Father's Day eve, it wasn't too crowded. I think there's a sports ball thing going on somewhere, too. One person ahead of me and I gave the nice lady my order. The tacos came out pretty quickly, followed by the beer, cool and frothy from the tap. As I've mentioned before, there is a nice adult contemporary soundtrack that is neither background or overpowering. It just hits, and you can chat over it if you want. Or sing along. After a nice bike ride, I stopped in and ordered their three shrimp tacos. I've had them before, but they seemed even more amazing than past visits. Were the shrimp larger? Were there more of them? (4 per taco seems about right!) It was such a lot of food (added to the hazy IPA) that I had to take the last one to go. It may last the night. Or it may be breakfast. I think I've had their burger once. I'm such a sucker for grilled shrimp! Hehe. They have sides and apps as well, but I can't even finish the main!

And the staff is super attentive and friendly to everyone in the place. They have a new-to-me slogan - don't yelp, we're here to help - which I think is fantastic because it's all about giving people the opportunity to make things right, not bitching on social media. Definitely nothing to complain about tonight. This place is great. And I love their celebration of minds of all kinds.

The ambiance was nice with an open airy space and plenty of spread out tables. The menu had about ten good sounding appetizers as well as about ten good sounding entrees. We decided to go with all appetizers. Our first item was the corn bread with honey butter. It was probably the best corn bread I have ever had. Next we had the scallops in a signature sauce and it was also delicious. Our third item was the chicken wing dish with various sauces, another good item. Our fourth appetizer was the grilled shrimp skewers with Carolina BBQ sauce and Cole slaw, another tasty dish. Our final dish was the calamari with Thai chili sauce. Service was friendly from our server, Lara.

The duck was extremely salty!! I mean tasted like they don't measure and had a bad taster. It was terrible. The calamari was the tiniest and saltiest appetizer I've ever seen for $15, The catfish had a bed of extra spicy, salty rice again with the salt. The collard greens were both too salty and too sweet. Cucumber salad had an unpleasant taste. The shrimp skewers, steak, burger, truffle fries, mashed potatoes and cornbread with guava butter and were seasoned well. I ordered the $49 filet mignon and my receipt showed a $54 charge, with not 1 side. The waitress dropped the birthday cake off and kept going. I asked if they would sing happy birthday she said no and walked off, extremely cold. They made us sort the $1027 bill out among 18 people, awful experience. Almost all of the group's food needed to go back bc of the salt overload, except the burgers, shrimp and steak. Definitely won't be returning.

From my perspective, Cary continues to be a safe, clean, up-and-coming town with a lot of smart people. It seems like a great place to raise a family. I've heard Cary referred to as "Cannot Afford Raleigh Yet" and "Containment Area for Relocated Yankees." Haha. Seriously though, with all the new construction in recent and forthcoming years, I can see the appeal in living here as opposed to Raleigh. Just look at places like Fenton as one example. In this Yelp review, I list my top 10 restaurants in Cary from our time in the Triangle, June 2020 through July 2024: 1. The a Carrboro Town Commons, a special event space that is home to the Farmers Market, is also home to summer time concerts. After having experienced two of these events this summer, I feel like I have a pretty good feel of what you're going to get. Tickets are usually reasonably priced for these VERY crowded shows ($20 range). No outside food/drinks for shows but empty water bottles allowed (I got in a sealed water bottle too FYI). Bags are checked at the entrance where you're allowed to bring blankets but no lawn chairs (security was not very "strict", I don't think it would be difficult to bring something small in). Out of the two shows I've seen, one was an afternoon to evening [2:30-8ish] and the other was a evening start time [6-9pm]. I preferred the day show versus the night show for a couple reasons. Lines in the day were very short since a lot of people showed up closer to the header band in the evening. Re-entry was allowed during the day show, but not for the night show. The day show was in general less crowded as a hole versus the night show. Either way, make sure you read the "rules" of the show before you attend, it could very well save you some time and money. Also, not that the venue is CASH ONLY. If there's an enormous line for a product that you're dying to purchase, go to the front of the line and confirm it will still be there after 30+ people go through [this could also save some disappointment]. Overall, Carrboro Town Commons makes for a great summer time venue. There's shade under the Farmer's Market coverings and they set up water misters for those super hot summer days. Grab a group of friends and enjoy a show together.
